If you are thinking about studying there when you graduate high school, I would have to say go for it! I did "stream A" which is the one you do if you don't have any experience with Japanese. If you are studying at high school, however, I think you will go through steam B. So I can't really talk about what you might experience there, but overall I think the Japanese program at UQ is good. There are bad points about it, but I think there will be at any "class" type environment. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me! And let us know how your class goes!

Re: Animania 2009

Ah cool! Eventually you will have to be exposed to casual speech to create longer sentences within polite speech, so it really doesn't matter. And you will eventually learn what context to use what kind of speech no matter what you learn first.

I would say go with what the tutor, but ask questions, review what you learn in different places, and eventually all the pieces of the puzzle will come together.

Re: The Stocking Tug of Team War!

Looks like you could make it out of pantyhose. would love to introduce it as a party game.

Re: Tokyo CGM Night, March 09

Seems like a cool night, I'm jealous!! :)

Re: Kanji Lessons from a Mystery Drama

I really enjoyed this post, it was very interesting. :) It must have taken a bit of time to do!

Re: Horror in the Hallway

Very scary!

Re: Kanji Wall Poster by White Rabbit Press

You should stick it in the toilet so you can kill two birds with one stone! ;)

Re: The first live video class from 30,000 feet?

Very cool indeed! I love to hand write, and keep a small journal most nights. I would love to be able to keep my journal in Japanese. So yes, while we may not *need* to know how to write, I want to and is one of my goals in learning Japanese.

It is frustrating when you know how to read something but can't write it, even when it is a *simple* word. I guess it is the same in English when you can't work out how something is spelt. Studying the writing of Kanji through Heisig and the reading of Kanji through Kanji Odyssey has shown to me how the two are somewhat separate but knowing one (i.e. either the reading or the writing of) helps you learn the other more quickly.

Re: I Found out the iPhone has a Password Lock

Is it wrong that I find this very funny?! ;)

Re: What does “Moshi Moshi” Mean?

I always thought of "moshi moshi" like "is the line connected?"
