That being said the environment is quite different: they have a closed environment with the iPhone, so they can charge a premium for someone to publish their app on the App Store. They don't have this leverage on the OS X app world, but I could see the benefit for developper to have their app diffused ala iPhone App Store. Unless Apple is ready to offer this service for free for developper, just to promote their platform, I don't see all developper jumping on this train.

Anyway my point is all the tools are there for Apple to do so, but like you said I think their focus is not there at the moment.

Re: Wolfenstein for iPhone and iPod Touch

Bought this and I love, funnest :) game on the iPhone so far I think.

Also the game was built by Id with the now Open Source game engine, so they had to release the source code and I'm sure someone took that code and made it work on a jail broken iphone.

Here is a great article from John Carmack on how he develop the iPhone port: http://www.idsoftware.com/wolfenstein3dclassic/...

Re: December Giveaway

Great! I've been so nice this year Santa! I hope they won't change for this or they put something in the Snow (haha) that we couldn't resist, ala "one more thing".

I would add that in the future we will see less and less big major release like Tiger and Win95 was. I think software company now realize that the Agile way of releasing smaller but more often is a better way of creating more stable, efficient (cost wise and productivity wise) software. The problem is how and when do we charge for this?

Re: http://www.macgasm.net/2008/11/22/snow-leopard-why-so-soon/

I think Snow Leopard contains major architecture changes and have the possibility to affect many applications or new release of applications. In that case developers need to put their hands on a beta release to add and test the new architecture changes in their applications and this is not possible with a simple software update.

Now I will agree with you, as a consumer I don't want to pay for this either, except if there is major benefit in the short term and I don't think it is the case here.

Re: http://www.macgasm.net/2008/11/18/google-speak-to-search-available-and-it-doesnt-like-canadians/

Mmm funny because when I tried "movie showtimes" with my thick french accent it found that I was in Gatineau, QC. Not because of the accent I hope, but because of my GPS location.

Re: Rockwell was right, somebody is watching you! I must say that tech and my gf are like water and oil or more like a key hole and the wrong key or ... you get it, it's me who program the flashing twelve.

Re: Rockwell was right, somebody is watching you! Can't wait to scare my gf with it either.

Re: 5 ‘genius’ ways that iTunes can be just a little bit better.

1. Agree, this is genius ;)
2. Agree again, but with a possibility to turn that off if I want to.
3. Meh, this would probably be at the bottom of the priority list, since I'm sure it's not use much anymore and Apple want you to buy accessories to plug you iPod in your car, not burn CDs.
4. This should also be the case for software update.
5. No comment, have to play more with this.

Re: One week without a dataplan.

Ah! Now I understand and it makes a lot of sense.

As for the Ferrari have you try to go over 100km/h in a Ferrari with Canadian Tires? Well me neither, but I'm sure it's not safe lol. Also at first I had written: "It's like buying an electric car with only the cord that plugs into the wall, but no battery" lol.

Re: One week without a dataplan.

I'm sorry but I don't understand, why did you get an iPhone if you will only use 5% of its purpose. With my iPhone I can now access my cloud data anywhere anytime. If I add a contact in my iPhone, boom it's on my Mac! (and vice versa) Someone sends me an e-mail, ping! got it anywhere! Especially here in the Ottawa region the (free) wifi coverage is almost null, 3G is a blessing. It's like buying a Ferrari and putting cheap Canadian Tire tires on it :)
