Silly question on reflections from Solar panels are one thing that concerns me. We face a southerly direction, we are also on a hill looking across a valley, do Solar Panels have a reflective surface I wouldn't want to think think it could cause an issue across the valley?

Thanks for another great podcast guys, not sure it shouldn't have been called the "We have Apple TV" though this week :-).

I'd like to comment on the iTunes server issue that we all seem to have. I put some feedback into Apple asking them to add iTunes server capability into the TimeCapsule or the Airport. I have recently upgraded the HD in my TC as that's where I keep all of my media, and I was running out of space.
So we have a Mac Mini where the family each have their own accounts everyone hits the TC media files and of course they all have their own play count playlists etc etc, I also have a macbook which also hits the TC so it too can play items from the media library on the TC. We also had a 1st gen Apple TV, I'm awaiting to get the next one but there are lots of niggles that you mentioned on the show, like picking SD over HD Films in a different section, all of which are slightly putting me off getting one. Anyway I have a Mac Mini that I use for a media centre which is hooked up to the TV, again this machine hits the TC Media to play. However the interface is not a "just do it" if you don't like fiddling it's not the best solution, so that's why I maybe thinking about the Apple TV.
So to get back to the point. I use the TC as a media centre so that all users can access the same (non duplicated) media we have. Biggest downside, as Adam says making sure permissions are correct, although I'll be honest I haven't had too many issues along those lines. You have to make sure that the TC is linked at login, adding the TC into your logon items solves this, you will get a conflict if someone is logged on and you fast user switch to another account, happens rarely for us but could be announce. And the last one I've come across is not seeing items added by others automatically, although you just need to add it into your library, not a big issue, but it isn't as I say automatic.
I'm sure there are other issues but it works for us , but a TC with as an iTunes server would be the best result.

I think there are several thought processes to go through.

First I have a iPod touch and a MiFi, I have had for some considerable time, and so am completely used to knowing when I want to take both items with me. Have I had an occasion where I didn't have the MiFi and no access to a WiFi signal. Not yet, but that day may surely come.

My decision was to get a WiFi iPad was based because I am used to knowing if I'll need to also use the MiFi outside of my home WiFi network, plus I'm thinking that if I take the iPad I'm bound to be taking it in some sort of carry case not just in it's own protective one. But that's my workflow, and I'm sure your's will be different.

Now the WiFi/3G issue aside, how are you going to use the iPad and will you want a WiFi signal when (and importantly) IF you are going to take the device away from the house and presumably your own home WiFi network.
I can see that 95% of the iPad use for us will be at home, that of course lead me to not worry about only having a WiFi option. If other members of the household get an iPad, again I don't see them using it away from the house and needing an Internet connection. But I'm not jumping into buying more than one, and this first purchase could deemed a bit of an experiment for us as a household. If we find we want another and that needs to be WiFi + 3G then so be it.

If you are a iPhone user, I can fully understand a thought process that means you'd want the one device to gain Internet access on the go at any time (as long as it's a good 3G signal of course lolz).

So those were my reasons for a WiFi only iPad. if it helps in any small way then great if it confuses the issue for you even for, My name is John ;-)

Hi guys I really enjoyed this episode, especially the round robin discussion on Aperture Vs LightRoom I have downloaded the Beta 3 LR to try out. I tend to do as much as I can in iPhoto so was glad to hear the support for it at the end of the show.

Hey Victor funny thing, I listened to your latest podcast before watching this clip, can I say that perhaps one of the reasons you get less comments from the podcast is the fact that it's factual, your assisting people, you make the point people take that on board and move on, case in point I use rapidweaver I liked the interview because I use Rapidweaver, but I can't add more to what's been said.
Where'as these clips are more thought provoking and people want to share their thoughts along side your's and it perhaps a more two way conversation.
Don't do the podcast and say it's finished then watch the comments! That's not a serious suggestion by the way, lolz. They are 2 different enviroments and everyone enjoys them for what they are.
And hey I agree would be nice to see hwere your heading occasionally :-)

Hey Victor It's great having these clips on the website rather than going to YouTube because whenever I go to YouTube I end spending far to long there!
I'd agree about Twitter/Pownce information informing about your shows, and also having a suscriber mail notification, until or as well as something new comes along, having inpromptue casts can be difficult to advertise of course. I'd say putting an RSS feed on those could assist as well??

Thanks I was wondering that, and at this point I can't go 5GHz as I only (at this point) have one wireless router and I use Apple TV as well as an iPod touch. One other question I have an old Netgear router and was thinking of getting rid of that, is the built in Firewall on the extreme as good, as the Netgear Firewall has served me very well, and do I need to set it up?

Hey guys just got back from my hols, and I got a Time Machine now I'm trying to set it up and I'm thinking about the channels issue, well guess what I had a look using iStumber and I see 6 wireless signals! 2 on channel 1, 2 on channel 11, 1 on chaanel 6 and 1 on channel 9 !!
the noise varies from 14 to 20% and the signal strength varies from 25 to 41%.
Do I need to leave my Airport Extreme setting on Automatic?

Great show again Victor can I clarify one thing and ask a question.
Firstly I have a 750GB hard drive but I at the moment only use around 270-300 GB, I have a Firewire ext drive which is a 500GB and of course at the moment that is plenty, so rather then 1.5 times your hard drive, which I understand is ideal would it be equally as well to say 1.5 times your data is sufficient.
Now I love Time Machine I think it's easy and unlike some (especially windows) apps it doesn't eat too much of your recourses when active.
Now I have not yet gone down this avenue, but if I purchase a portable ext drive, can I also use that as an extra drive to use time machine to back up to, that way I can store that drive off site, I realise that this means that the backup to that drive has less increments, but at least it gives you a second backup. Now can Time machine handle the fact that it has two completely different backup's? (hope that makes sense)

Looks great Victor and a cheap option for recording on the go for those who don't want to spend lots of money, I'd love to be able to record whilst doing my reffing, anyone know of a unit like this that can record wireless, or an even smaller unit that can be carried and have a small collar mic attached?

Hey Victor I wish I could have been on your cast last night (for me) as I love the Air and I have called it a classic and I said WOW when I saw the twitters came in from the Keynote, I was on the for mac eyes only keynote special "Reaction Time: Macworld Expo Keynote 2008", and I've stated on my blog and in several other places the reasons I think it's a winner, I'm glad that people are starting to realise that this IS a cracking machine! Yeah I know it's not for everyone, but I think there are several good business reasons and I would love to only carry that size of machine around.

Great piece on the Dock Victor I like messing about with all the options and I thought I had made all the adjustments I needed for my work flow, but yet again you reminded me of actions I could take the ease my work pattern. Like putting recently required items into a folder and access that folder via the dock, you seem to know just when to put out the reminders!

10.5.2 loaded most (haven't tried all yet) apps seem to be working OK, watch out for the Graphics update that comes after the 10.5.2 update. Required a new Software update search.
