(Actually I tried to do that and couldn't figure out how
to do it in Facebook.) Thank you Susan for your birthday wishes!

It may seem a bit strange that I did this but in addition to what I said
already in the post, I also have tired of wading through an increasing
amount of ancillary Facebook-y stuff. In other words, there was a lot of
noise in participating in Facebook and I got tired of that as well.

Take care,

Steve

Re: Dear Facebook: I quit

Hi Susan (and also, Char),

Thanks for your comments, and sorry I didn't send a global message out
before quitting. To answer your question, well, let's just say they
are fine as long as one or the other is securely behind bars!!! Kewanee is probably on the better end of some Illinois small towns. A lot of small towns are like "Ghost Towns" (which I find sad). I know it sounds like a Mellencamp song, but I grew up in a small town, I went to school in a small town, and I find it sad to see them disappearing.

It would be interesting to see you views on small towns in a post in the future. I went to school in Kirksville, Mo and it was interesting to see how a Super Wal Mart transformed that town. In the age of bailout and stimilus, it is interesting what is being done to save small towns. Especially in a tech age as today when people could work from home in more affordable rural areas.

Re: Sonny Boy

Brian, you make a good point. I wasn't trying to tear them down by using
that description. I just thought it was a fact. Yes, this can be said of
many, perhaps most small towns in Illinois, especially those "downstate." I
grew up in one of them, too, and was always irritated when someone from the
Chicago area would call anything south of I-80 "downstate."

Re: Library profession ranks high on depression

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't know. I will certainly convey your greetings
to my mother. I wish I remembered you but I can't. I'm sorry. Do you
have any online photos I can see sometime? Thank you for your kind
words about the blog. Thanks for passing this along. And for the words of encouragement.
It's kinda weird; I've worried that I'm losing where I came from. I haven't
subscribed to a ton of new blogs to replace the ones I've dropped. I pay
more attention now to Google-related blogs, e.g., and also have subscribed
to some product-specific blogs that are relevant for my company. I also have
broadened my list of technology-related blogs a bit. I still have quite a
long list of library-related blogs that I'm subscribed to, actually. I'm
just being more aggressive now in terms of pruning them.

Re: All I want for Christmas

Ashley, that's a great idea!

Re: Another day of gray

Approval

Re: Sick and tired and overwhelmed

Cristy,

I am really sorry that it has taken me this long to respond to your kind
comment. We're making two
calls, one to the Journal Subscription API and another to the SFX API. In
addition we are requiring that the user inputs sufficiently complete
metadata. In other words we evaluate the data on-the-fly and will not even
bother with the API lookup if we don't have sufficient metadata to work
with. For instance, if the user neglects to input pages or even just a
start page, then the lookup process won't even proceed.

Steve

Re: My Grandma’s scrapbook

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm sure we disagree on a lot of things but there are things
perhaps that we agree on as well. I am referring to the "some in
chariots..." line. Yes, you're right, the next line is important as well.

Re the comparison with 2000, well, I guess the aftermath was definitely
worse but I don't remember the campaign itself as being worse.
Interestingly that was the year that I voted for the very first time in my
life. I won't go into an explanation of why but it was weird to vote and
then have all THAT happen.

Re: An afternoon at the beach

Yes indeed, they are!

Re: 100 Things to Eat

Um...It's a MEME. The difference between my post and
Terry's is that Terry included additional comments on his entries AND he and
I indicated different foods we'd eaten.
