And especially for your ongoing friendship. While we may not agree about God and His fickle nature, I definitely appreciate your thoughtful concern and that you took the time to write an encouraging note.

Re: I have so much to learn

Mary Beth, thank you for your comment and for reminding me to ask. I'm afraid that although I continue to have adventures -- as you put it :-) -- I don't write about them as much as I used to, for a variety of reasons. I guess I'm more cautious or careful nowadays about what I share to the world. Another reason is that sometimes I just lack that extra bit of energy to write about them. Thanks again.

Re: Three iPad giveaways in three days: day two, courtesy of CloudOn! -- Engadget

I'd like to see full Office capabilities and a nice mobile SharePoint client on my iPad.

Re: Three iPad giveaways in three days: day two, courtesy of CloudOn! -- Engadget

I'd like to see full Office compatibility as well as a good SharePoint mobile client.

Re: The governance farce

Reject

Re: The end of academic librarianship, or, Harvard faces reality

Hi Sarah, very very nice to hear from you! Things are generally ok from what I've heard from both my sister and my mother, who arrived safely. Things have worsened there over time since the big quake, due to the number (in the 100s) of aftershocks, many of which have been pretty scary for them all. Some people are simply getting sick from all the motion. At first glance after the major quake, overall damage didn't look really bad, but all of the aftershocks have amplified things and houses that didn't show any damage before are showing it now.

My mother told me she is definitely sick and tired of natural disasters!

Re: Sitting on the floor at Borders

Hi,

The scanner model I asked for (and got) is Canon CanoScan 8800F Color
Film/Negative/Photo Scanner. Yes, I *do* recommend it, wholeheartedly. The
entire process of scanning film negatives and slides is tedious at best and
that's true with the scanner, too. However it is faster than a previous
scanner I used (from HP) and I especially like the fact that it features an
"instant on" lamp, nice templates for the various types of media you want to
scan, and that it comes bundled with Photoshop Elements.

Steve

Re: Changes

Thanks, Char! I watched the video via the link you sent and it was indeed a good one to remind me of the need to interact with and see God in everything, including the waiting times.

Steve

Re: Where I’ve been

Alex,

First, thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my post, and I apologize for taking so long to reply.

To respond to your point about waiting vs. taking action, I see both sides to it. There are things I've done, decisions I've made when I took a certain direction and I think God blessed it. One of these decisions resulted in meeting my future wife :-)

On the other hand, I firmly believe there are times when it is imperative to wait until a forward direction is clear. There are many Bible verses, plus personal experience, that support this, and as someone else who wrote to me separately pointed out, waiting isn't necessarily a passive thing. Waiting is (or can be) active.

Again, thank you for writing and for your encouragement! It means a lot

If I am correct, you work at the National Library of Australia, no? I'd love to connect with you about your work there at some point.

Regards,

Steve

Re: Musings on managers

Hi Eric,

In thinking about it more, I agree with you. The only other thing I'd add is
that clear and open should ideally be a two-way thing. There should be an
exchange between manager and employee, not just manager to employee but also
employee to manager.

Steve

Re: Musings on managers

Hi Amy,

It is great to hear from you!
