I think a large number of people came to the same conclusion because the FF founders employed an amateurish PR strategy during the buy out at best, at worst simply didn't level with the community that yes, FF is eventually going by the wayside. (Let's hope they at least keep the servers on for archiving purposes.)

So that made it pretty hard to keep investing a ton of time into FF. Heck, I had started modifying some Greasemonkey scripts to customize FF, hoping that FF would eventually launch those features natively. Now pretty much all new development on FF has ceased. That's no way to keep people around in earnest.

And parallel to the "death throes" of FF, everybody after a few weeks of shock has gotten way more emo than is good for everyday consumption.

If I really had that much power then everyone would have followed me from Twitter onto FriendFeed. Hint: they didn't. At least not most of them.

You can't have it both ways. You publicly stated over and over that FriendFeed is dead so people listened to you and left. Now you're complaining about FF having no value because they're gone?

FWIW, you can turn off all the people others "drag in" on FriendFeed. In fact, I'd demonstrate it with your feed but I already have turned off all the other folks you drag in (short answer: Hide all the entries liked by or commented on by friends of Louis Gray or even by Louis himself).

I was thinking the entire time, "I know you CAN reprogram them you just WON'T reprogram them because some six sigma douchebag in accounting figured you could scam $20 out of people even when they don't buy equipment from you."

I didn't say that though. CSR's have a hard enough time as it is.

IMO, there is a place for widgets but it is very small. Widgets have to be informational or otherwise useful without much effort and they have to cram that stuff into a small place.

In Apple's case, they killed widgets before they even had a chance. When you tuck away things that people need/want to use constantly (email widget, calendar widget, tasks, stickies, etc, etc) into a Dash that can only be interacted with independently of the rest of the OS, you can pretty much guarantee those things will get little to no use.

Widgets getting little to no use to Apple probably seems like people aren't interested in widgets and Dashboard as a whole so they drop the project priority and here we are with nobody approving new stuff for it.

I gave up my crusade for a sidebar (think Google Desktop sidebar on Windows http://www.google.com/enterprise/desktop/images...) long ago but really, I think that's the only way you're going to see people interacting with widgets in any way that is meaningful.

...and then their methods of broadcasting get blocked. AFAIK, only Twitter and FriendFeed remain unblocked there and I don't hold out much hope for Twitter staying that way. :(

When does this suspension go into effect? I ask because according to http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?... it hasn't happened yet (Last Played 3/2/2009).

Hate speech only garners a 2 week suspension? So in 2 weeks those guys can come back with even more of the same kinds of harassment? That seems kind of...well...weak to me. A 2-week suspension is like the equivalent of a "Now now boys, play nice," when they've demonstrated they don't understand that concept.

Do you guys have a sort of 3 strikes, you're out policy?

Why would we geeks want to run Android on a netbook when we can run Linux? Because we already know it and love Linux. However, netbooks are quickly escaping the realm of geekdom and becoming mainstream. For your average consumer who wants:

a) something that just works without them having to poke at it
b) access to the internet, a document editor, and a way to view their media
c) easy access to apps

the Android platform makes sense.

To be sure, I think the Eee support right now is really rough. Once the major kinks get worked out though, I would feel comfortable giving my mom a Netbook running Android. Not so with Linux as she already has a Ubuntu based PC that she doesn't use.
