Hi Jennifer,

I just was in Paris a few months ago for 3 weeks. A wonderful city that you could spend 6 months and not see all of it. I was writing ironically (or sarcastically if you prefer that) on a non specific comparison of high class cities.

There are also many areas of San Francisco that are less expensive -- many just blocks from Valencia St. in the Mission. Valencia Street is were many of the small business, speciality, small batch, locally made shops and diners are that are higher priced.

Well, Dictionary.com for irony states:

1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

It also has mockery as a synonym. So sarcastic and ironic are very close if not often similar.

Price fixing is an arbitrary designation that has been used by the government for any price level. At times it's for keeping prices "artificially" low which Amazon could be attacked for, at other times it's for higher prices which now Apple is being attacked for. What the government is actually doing is attacking a business model that Apple has of higher prices with higher quality product and services. By doing that they're removing an option for consumers who want that and destroying competitiveness.

A particular aspect of mobile is that apps are on the go and in a moment: snapping a photo, replying to a text message, checking a feed, looking up a restaurant, etc. While your on a bus, walking, sitting at a cafe, etc. doing these things, most people are not going to spend the time to learn new interface capabilities.

I was a kid at my parents home in San Jose. The next day I walked outside and there was no body out. Everyone was inside watching the reports. I went to a older friends house and he said as if he knew anything that "It was no big deal." I knew immediately knew what he said was idiotic.

Julianne Moore is one of my favorite actors. But "Game Change" isn't getting good reviews:

"Moore looks the part, and gamely ventures Palin's Alaska accent, often to the point of excess (her “deal” comes too close to “dill,” her “feel” too close to “fill.”) But she simply cannot convey the sheer magic of Palin, the alluring combination of ideological intensity, provincial gumption and wink-wink sauciness that made one smitten conservative pundit declare that she “sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America.” A wise political observer noted to me during the campaign that one of the things that made Palin such a bold choice was that she was truly of the frontier – she hunted moose (albeit less avidly than she'd have us believe); her part-native husband fished for salmon in Bristol Bay and worked the North Slope oil fields. This sort of hockey mom was a breed apart from the minivan chauffeurs that decide elections in suburban Denver and Northern Virginia. But Moore's Palin utterly lacks this strain of tousled Wasilla wildness; she is a suburban PTA mom to the core, so domesticated and sedated from the first moment we see her that it is very hard to believe that McCain's headhunters would have seized onto her after a glimpse of a few video clips – or that she would have sent huge campaign crowds into rapture."
