I'm assuming so. If not, then inflation should be through the roof. Or.. are we assuming that many of these businesses will fail anyway, and the government never gets back the money?

I totally understand the employment side of things though. Anything that creates jobs, and increases consumer confidence is a good thing.

Re: rizzn's personal blog

I have nothing against gphone, but my heart is already stolen by my blackberry :D

Re: (jeff)isa-balloon! | (jeff)isageek.net

THAT rocks!

Re: Time to keep our promise

The only reason I'd argue for coming down so heavily on the bailout folks is that it was a near-exact repeat of 9/11 and Iraq - imminent danger, financial meltdown only days away, sign this into law NOW and pay no attention to it! And Congress, or a majority of it, bought it a THIRD time, hook, line, and sinker - and we're seeing the results of their actions now with bonuses, dividends, and acquisitions, none of which were supposed to happen, but of course were baked into the cake.

Once, sure, I can understand. 9/11 was legitimately terrifying, and lawmakers signed into law the PATRIOT Act, which was a stinker. They should have known better for Iraq - WMDs now!!! - but didn't. The bailout was strike #3.

Re: Time to keep our promise

No offense Chris (and you know I have a TON of respect for you), but I fail to see that logic. To call for the unilateral removal of those that voted for the bailout, yet find it ok to promote someone who DID simply does not make sense.

In other words, we should weigh heavily against those that voted for the bailout, but not make it our only decision making tool for anybody running for office.

Re: Time to keep our promise

I would hold to that. Unfortunately, this seems to be the latest trend in "viral marketing". Do something that's ridiculously controversial to build up Google juice. Hey! It got you to write about it. While I'm not sure if this falls into that category, it's certainly more than a unusual and grotesque effort on the part of a long standing and respected brand, that just lost a great deal of their respect. People are going to write AND link to it.

Re: rizzn's personal blog

I like t-mobile, i've been with them since my first cell phone.

Re: rizzn's personal blog

If it wasn't on T-Mobile, I'd consider it. Derek's Tweenky can do a "track" to email via search terms as well, but it also manages to grab the originating twitter's name. You can simply have it email your phone's email address (see provider for format).

Only downfalls to this are that the service is still very beta, and "Tweenky track for 'searchterm" appears as both the subject and in the body, so there is little room for the actual message in the SMS.

The originating poster missing is because Summize searches only include this information as a link in their feeds. While not as reliable, you can probably subscribe directly to your Twitter replies tab (providing you can utilize a username/password.). While it may miss @s in the middle of a tweet, you'd at least get the Twitter handle.

Re: my socks don't fit

my shirt was drenched when we got back if that's any indication. it caused me to lok up the meanings of dew point & heat index: fascinating stuff!

Re: my socks don't fit

Walked to the farmer's market? I always love to see companies engaged in the conversation that is going on.

I don't know if I'd blame Google for the lack of public knowledge of your legal and embeddable content. Yes, the fact that people posted your content to YouTube before this option was available didn't help, but don't blame others for the lack of effective marketing on your end. All that said, you are definitely right, with sites like YouTube also distributing clips royalty free, you loose money on your content. Unfortunately, with user submitted sites, you know as well as I do that moderating the content is nearly impossible. This is why I hope that a distribution deal can be made with sites like YouTube so it doesn't take a lawsuit to receive a check for your work.

Re: My MacBook Mission - Accomplished!

Very cool Dave. The incredible wealth of this information is staggering, and frankly, I'm surprised we haven't seen it utilized that much yet.
I actually blogged about the iPhone and "proximity marketing" a year or so ago that talked along these lines. The point being is that it's only a matter of time... and it IS coming (no reason to think it isn't). Add GPS enabled phones that access this data, and this kind of stuff can be sent to you not only at the right time, but also when you are at a place you can make a purchase.
For example... you only need to add a dash of the DB to the Starbucks iTunes store, and it's already set up! You like Matthew Ebel's music? hey, we played something in the last hour you may be interested in. Press here to purchase!
