On our company's account (@axiompr) during the day, when I take a quick scan of the stream, it does seem to me that most of the Tweets begin with @. If that is how we would measure conversation on Twitter, then it would seem like things are pretty back and forth. On my personal account, I am following less people, and it seems like there are fewer @ tweets in the stream. What do these things show? Maybe that I am not following the right people on my personal account. Or maybe that conversations might spark on Twitter, but continue on a blog or a DM. I believe that Twitter is conversational, but in my opinion, its what you make of it. Many just broadcast themselves and make no real effort to converse, but that does not diminish the people who are actually using it to connect.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - SXSW talk by Gary Vaynerchuk

Well thought out. In some ways, I have stopped caring whether the cynics really like Twitter or not, especially when we know it can be a useful tool for business and personal brand. I do think it is a good strategy though to tactfully discuss, like you have, what stereotypes people do have of Twitter and how you could help to change that perception not only by pointing out examples but acting in ways that don't perpetuate it.

Re: GE's Smart Grid Technology

Hey thanks for the link - another pretty cool innovation from GE!<br><br>The Skittles are for calling our phone booth and commenting on our question of the week. I think social media is changing the world more than most people realize, but it is also not a end-all, silver bullet solution for every problem. I think sometimes people get so excited about social media, they forget about the other myriad of tools that should work with social media, not against it.<br><br>Another characteristic I would suggest is patience. A social media strategist needs patience in so many areas - patience with new clients who don't know as much as you, patience with skeptics and naysayers, patience with the process of doing social media the right way, and patience for the world social media itself to develop (ie tools that are needed, more solid ways to measure social media efforts that haven't been designed/made yet). This world is still new and developing in so many ways, and patience will go a long way.

Re: Mashable Gets a Social Media Makeover

Glad you switched to Disqus.

Re: Breaking Breakfast Promos on Twitter

I really like your point about making it uncomplicated with no discussion board administrators or someone having to be there to guide the process. The message is simple for everyone to understand in 2 seconds, pass along to friends without knowing tons of background info, and exciting enough to apply to everyone. Simple messages spread.

Re: 10 Places To Find Jobs On Twitter

Just found another good person to follow on Twitter for jobs:<br><br>@themediaishirin

Re: The Social Media Trap: What’s the Next Big Thing? | Social Media Explorer

I like Seth Godin's addition to this idea. If you can't be the best at the platform, then don't do it (he doesn't have enough time to invest on Twitter, so we puts his time elsewhere). I think this idea can really tie into what you wrote, David. We often spend a lot of time trying to find the next thing (and spreading ourselves too thin) when we could use that time to invest in the communities we already have. Great post.

Re: The Gravitational Pull of Pepsi: Scientific or Sham?

Thanks for the comment Mandy. A lot have been saying things similar to you - the new Pepsi logo looks like a mashup of the logo for Korean Air (<a href="http://tinyurl.com/aq9qcy" rel="nofollow">http://tinyurl.com/aq9qcy</a>) and Obama's logo (<a href="http://tinyurl.com/c9jftw" rel="nofollow">http://tinyurl.com/c9jftw</a>). Nothing too original, but it would probably help some people." After I RT'd the article, I realized some of these same things that these comments are pointing out. How come I have done all of the things in this list, but I don't have tons of followers yet? (Because these steps are not what its all about). No, Kevin Rose did not get 91,000+ followers by following these tips he gave out. Jacob, way to have the courage to point this out .

Re: Twitter Suggesting New Followers, How They Should Do It

hey drew, yep mr tweet has done the best job so far. however you would think that a feature such as this would do best if it came from the actual company...guest not :)

Re: Twitter Suggesting New Followers, How They Should Do It

Jacob, I was thinking a very similar thing. I was disappointed with who they recommend that I follow (I think I also was recommended Britney), and wanted more control. If I was able to find more specific people, this feature would make more sense. So far, I have been mostly been using @MrTweet for recommendations. I really hope Twitter will develop this feature more this year.

Re: Flame Your Friends

Thanks for reading!
