The study was done once. It was not done repeated times. So there is no reliability to it. There are myriad reasons why the crime rate could have gone down-- but most likely due to the fact that data for a single moment of time doesn't reflect anything real.

Re: Diamine Regency Blue with a Pelikan M205 Blue-Marbled: Monday Matchup #140

FPR Guru is all I have at the moment Waterman Quink Blue. #MondayMatchupGiveaway @GouletPens

Re: Noodler’s Ahab vs. Noodler’s Konrad: Fountain Pen Battle

I had the Konrad fall apart on me in multiple spots. Maybe I just got a bad one.. the nib was amazing.. just can't trust the rest of it. I mentioned it to someone else with a Konrad who said he loved it and then ten minutes later said "Hey.. my piston mechanism just came out like yours. You jinxed me." I enjoyed the FPR Guru, but I am resigned that a GREAT flex needs to be on a well crafted pen. Sometimes you have to spend money to save money (or at least your shirt pocket)

Re: Noodler’s Red-Black with a Lamy LX Palladium: Monday Matchup #139

https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
Pelikan M215 Waterman black

Re: Monteverde Moonstone with an Edison Nouveau Premiere Seaglass: Monday Matchup #138

Pelikan M215 with Waterman black (not very fancy ink, sorry).. best journeys are taking in the imagination!!!

https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Re:

(2) While this person may be railing against real Nazis, it does not give him the right to harass them. Are nazis bad? Sure. Are they allow their rights to speak just like the rest of us? yes. If they say something offensive.. do what the nazis did and report it. IF it violates the "standards of conduct" then they will ban them.

Even on the street corner a Nazi has the right to speak his mind.. and you have the right to speak yours. That is the 1st amendment. But within my place of business-- I can dictate the terms of that speech and codes of conduct or ask you to leave. And just because the person you hate is a horrible nazi, it doesn't give anyone the right to be abusive or harassing. That just makes you just like the nazi and just as wrong.

Re: Atheists sue to remove 'Ground Zero Cross' from 9/11 museum

I think the atheists are going the wrong direction. We should have the discussion that some people attributed meaning and hope-- and that there were all sorts of religions represented in those who lost their lives, worked the aftermath and survived the event. That would be much more healing than trying to making this a peeing contest between atheists and Christians.

Re: Update — The New G.I. Bill

I followed this issue very closely. This history of the Bill was initially avoided by Senator McCain until the a few months ago, when Secretary Gates and President Bush both threatened to veto the Bill citing that "if we gave them this Bill, it would hurt retention." They cited a study that acknowledged that the military could expect a 16% decrease in retention if the new G.I. Bill was passed.

After that, Senator McCain backed the republican party's leader, until he was able to sign on to a counter G.I. Bill. That Bill offered a flat $2,000 per month program, and the ability to transfer the benefits to the family members.

While the majority of the G.I. Bill that passed was from Senator Webb's original plan, many of the compromises came from the secondary Bill that Senator McCain endorsed. It was the amendments (and the overwhelming congressional vote) that convinced President Bush to reassess his "veto" and sign the Bill into law.
