Herald-Sun journalist has been trying to get the academics promoting the Stolen Generations to name 10 people who were stolen because they were Aboriginal. They haven't been able to do it. The names they have given have all come back as being removed from their parents for various reasons such as physical & sexual abuse, parents dying, neglect, etc. Like I said in my posting it is not a cut and dry issue.

So I guess you believe that Aborigines hop around like kangaroos in the Outback as well and cast magic spells that can stop a stampede of cows? The depiction of the Aboriginals in this movie was ridiculous. Like I mentioned in my posting if people want to see a good movie about the Aboriginals than watch 10 Canoes not this movie.

Re: Exploring the Franklin Mountains B-36 Crash Site

Andrea I am glad you found the information to be useful. The Native-Americans, Spanish, and Mexicans have all played a key part in the history of our nation for many centuries out West.

Re: On Walkabout At: San Esteban Del Rey Mission, New Mexico

Retired-fire, yes I do think a movie about the Acoma War would be a great movie if done right. I think there was plenty to admire about the Conquistadors while at the same time being critical of certain actions they took. A movie about the Acoma War I think would have the ability to capture this if done right.

Enjoy your trip to Acoma. It really is a beautiful area. If you are really interested in colonial Spanish history in New Mexico you may also find the Salinas Pueblo Mission of interest as well:

http://on-walkabout.com/201...

Re: On Walkabout At: San Esteban Del Rey Mission, New Mexico

Retired-fire, I am glad you enjoyed the pictures and story.

Your comment about Native-American slavery is very true. I am just pointing out that in American history you hear a lot about slavery in the South but few Americans no anything about the Spanish slavery of the Native-Americans in the Southwest.

Re: On Walkabout at: Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico

Retired-fire thanks for commenting. The book I bought at the Acoma pueblo refers to Onate leading a group of 400 men into New Mexico. I guess the men could be broke down into Soldiers and support personnel. Looking around the Internet I could not find anything in regards to how many Soldiers participated in the attack on Acoma. Regardless of what the number is it is still an incredible feat that these men were able to travel so far and still be such an effective fighting force for the Spanish Empire.

Re: On Walkabout In: The Beechworth Historical & Cultural Precinct

Thanks for reading and I am glad you enjoyed the post. The Gila Mountains is probably one of the most remote and wild wilderness areas in the country that a lot of people don't know about. Definitely worth checking out if visiting southern New Mexico.

Re: On Walkabout In: Marysville, Victoria

Test Comment

Re: On Walkabout In: Marysville, Victoria

Test Comment

Re: On Walkabout On: North Franklin Mountain, Texas – Part 2

The trail up North Mt. Franklin is perfectly safe for just about anyone that has a moderate level of fitness. I wouldn’t recommend the hike to any with a heart condition for example. Just make sure you bring plenty of water, sun screen, and wear a hat because it is hot out there now and there is no water on the mountain.

As far as what is on that peak I will eventually hike up there and see what it is. Same with the tin mines, I haven’t had a chance to hike over there yet but I will eventually get around to checking them out.

As I continued to check things out around the El Paso area I will keep posting them here so maybe it will give you some travel ideas while you are here.

Re: On Walkabout On: North Franklin Mountain, Texas – Part 1

Welcome to the site and I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. So far I haven't read anything that suggests the authorities are going to even bother investigating this incident to figure out if it really was a hoax or not. I'm still waiting just to hear what seeds and plants he was eating for 12 days.

Re: Is the Story of Lost Bushwalker Jamie Neale A Hoax?

If he isn't scratched up that is a good point you bring up. I would assume though that he was wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt and probably even a jacket since he was hiking in the winter. This may explain the lack of scratches. His hands should be scratched as well but if he was wearing gloves that might explain that.

Re: Is the Story of Lost Bushwalker Jamie Neale A Hoax?

I'm not saying he made the story up but I would think it would be good to further look into the story before giving him hundreds of thousands of dollars for interviews.

Re: Aborigine Origins Identified?

There had to be some kind of hostile natives of some kind on the land the walked over and you would think they would have settled some where closer if no one was on the land. Why walk all the way to Australia? That is why I think the sailing is more plausible but it is incredible to think that a tribe of people of such knowledge of sailing would forget all they had learned once they got to Australia. It is a fascinating topic to think about though.
