#13 ain't bad considering the lack of a roster returning next year (Crawford will take Gordon's place as the designated chucker), pending sanctions, and a crappy arena which won't be replaced any time soon.

Smith has no credibility when it comes to proposing NBA mega-trades every week. And he may have been overstating things, but he may be on to something. The IDS reported the other night that Dakich told Greenspan he wanted to kick 4 players off the team. So maybe the administration decided no more dismissals were necessary. If so, then end story. But if two more get kicked off, it could take awhile to win.

Sam Smith also has the credibility of Kelvin Sampson.

While I think there are more things to be learned (like that Crawford and Bassett failed drug tests which led to their three-game suspensions earlier in the season), I doub that they're going to lose "four or five years" - that's ridiculous. He's struck out many times before on big stories.

Sam Smith was the NBA beat writer for the Tribune for 20 years until this week and is generally regarded as one of the best in the business. He's definitely got the inside scoop in the NBA and pays attention to the college game only insofar as it relates to pro prospects. He knew about the conduct but didn't know about the dismissals.

ESPN 1000 in Chicago reportedly reported the Kruger story which I do not believe Sam Smith would be involved with in any way. Chicago has a robust media. They even have two newspapers.

Sam Smith is interesting is known for the shocking. I would find it hard to believe that over an entire year given the problems IU has had, if there were illegal things going that the law wasn't involved.

I do believe there is more to these stories than missed meetings which is why I would NOT be surprised if guys are dismissed. I have a bad feeling about Toine.

I do believe KS overlooked a lot of stuff because of his own mess and desire to keep down the controversies. But he if Coach T has to "CREAN" house then get it done.

I was just watching Sam Smith on Comcast SportsNet's Chicago Tribune Live. He said worse things will come to the surface at IU than the published discipline issues. "They have a lot of problems down there, big probation problems. He could lose for four or five years big time... There's more to it than team discipline. You're going to find out that there's an insidious problem down there involving some illegal things going on." Possibly more players being kicked off. "So there are big problems coming down there... he may be walking into a bad situation... I'm told this is illegal stuff that could be involved with law enforcement issues too."

Technically you're correct, and I stand by my point that the Trustees are behind the program in a way that would have been unimaginable when Miles was here. Here's the story:

GARY, Ind. - Indiana University trustees say the school should build a new basketball arena rather than spend millions of dollars renovating the 35-year-old Assembly Hall.

The board, meeting in Gary Thursday, approved a resolution saying the university would go forward with replacing the building "when appropriate."

University President Adam Herbert and other administrators told the trustees that it doesn't make sense to do a full renovation of Assembly Hall, something that could cost $115 million.

An architect says a new 18,000 seat arena would cost between $130 and $160 million.

I've got no problem with a win-at-all costs coach if it leads to NCAA investigations elsewhere, especially Champaign. And we've seen what being on bad terms with the NCAA can do to a school's tournament seeding.

It doesn't matter that the players are putting Karen Sampson's initials on their shoes. The current roster is irrelevant to the school and the prospective coaches. Half of the current roster will be gone in a year anyway which is fine. Any coach who wants to build for the long haul can't wait to turn over the roster (e.g., UK) so his recruits can play as freshmen.

Tom do you think that Bob Knight would of become the winningest D1 coach at Army? Try not batch. Indiana hadn't won much during the 60's......and Indiana was still considered elite in the 70's when Bobby took the job. Produced may of been the wrong term.....maybe I should of said an ELITE program like INDIANA help Bob Knight flourish into the winningest coach ever.....I mean even at Tech he wasn't as consistant. I wasn't "raving" about KS either. I was merely pointing out that he had us back in business in two years as a major contender. Until he left the hoosiers were doing great.....or at least much better than past years.

Oh and the Mike Davis thing....I'm sure you weren't runnin' your cock sucker when we were in the NCAA championship game. The players wanted him and when they got him they went to the finals and won a share of the Big Ten......maybe thats something that elite teams don't do.

Broken Indiana? With a new practice facility under construction and trustees voting for a new arena, seems like the school is supporting the program.

Divided Hoosier Nation? Seems like we're all on board here- only fools like Dukie V want RMK back. And I think the fan base will be patient not to put too much pressure on the incoming coach to win right away and allow him to build a program for the long haul.

Not to mention getting the top in-state recruits will get you a Final 4 every few years.

Any coach who is qualified for the job will know IU is a premier job. The future is bright at IU. (But then again, it wouldn't surprise me if the Committee hired someone who sucks balls like Alford.)

The school has to move forward on getting a replacement ASAP. Every potential candidate will be at the Final Four, so IU must have their ducks in a row by then. Two weeks should be enough time for the committee to get organized. The school can't keep this secret because the media can file an open records request (which is what kept the school from sitting on the NCAA charges). If it hurts the current team, well no more damage can be done at this point.

The only instance I'm aware of in which a school refused to release a player from a letter of intent happened at IU when RMK refused to release Lawrence Funderburke, causing him to go on a long a winding road to graduation. That was a classless move by RMK, and I don't care to see IU repeat it.

WTF? I've never thought highly of the BTN but the camerawork for this game is a complete joke. Every half court set there has been a player off the television screen who gets the ball and the camera doesn't adjust. It's not innovation, it's bush league.

I figured at the beginning of the year that we would loose to Michigan State at Breslin. I agree with statement made that the Wisconson game is the game we really messed on. If we would of won we would be in a three-way tie right now. I was just disappointed with the lack of effort by the players and the fact that Dackich is not "coaching" the team.....or he doesn't have control over them or whatever. I guess all we can do now is hope Ohio State beats purdue, so at least they don't get any of the action.

Crawford is a good player. I don't see how anyone could disagree with that. He is a freshman....we can't expect him to preform like a senior. When (or if) Crawford is a junior and bassett is a senior they will be the best backcourt in the big ten. Shaheen Holloway would of been a nice addtion to that backcourt, but I suppose we better just take this one step at a time.

I hope we come out alright in the Big Ten Tournament. I have a bad feeling if we have to play Illionois, but we will see. It would be a great accomplishment if we could get our act together and win in Indy. At least this seaon would be a total waste with this much talent.

Coaching: we need to hire someone outside the IU family. We need the best coach out there. Alford can stay where he is at and Dackich can head back to the "basketball operations" office. I liked Sampson, myself, but it was a mistake to hire him in the first place. All we need is a coach that will A: Keep the players where they are. B: Hold on to the recruits. C: Run an offense D: Make the team defensively sound.
