Judging from Moose Chaser's posts he/she has the brain of a 2 or 3 year old. Such a brain can only understand their own point of view and not those of others.

Just because you have managed to pull out of this mess without any trouble does not mean that others have gotten clear.

Manley is probably the worst of what was formerly on the BoD of Nortel. (Besides Z himself, of course)

Here we have Manley continuing to praise Z for attracting "top talent", keeping in mind this "top talent" were the ones at the helm when Nortel went bankrupt.

Manley may be clueless but he is not stupid. He's just trying to cover his own ass, which is strange because all the $$$ he made from being a loser on Nortel's BoD ought to be enough.

Moose Chaser represents some of the worst of what was one Nortel. You know what I'm talking about. These were the employees who were so quick to complain about Nortel's problems but also so smug when others got the boot during layoffs.

These hypocrites were too cowardly to do anything about it but seemingly lucked out getting a life line from Avaya just like the Choker did. And just as before, they are smug as ever, awash in their own ignorance.

Your quote here could be used for almost any corporate corruption or situation where someone has broken the law, just exchange "Nortel" for another bad guy.

If you do not properly enforce the law or create laws to prevent injustice, then invariably other corrupt individuals or corporations will exploit the same loopholes for their own benefit and to the detriment of society.

That is the true definition of "unethical" rather than your weak attempts to blame AAN for other troubles.

Yes, the lawyers and consultants have made a killing off of the Ch.11 proceedings. But who allowed it to come to this? And why do these same people go unpunished?

There needs to be real reform, changes in the legal code and enforcement of laws along with harsh punishment for those that put greed above basic human dignity.

Great catch. As noted before here on this blog Richard Lowe has already profited off of the bankruptcy of Nortel while others have suffered. How?

Less than two months before Nortel filed for Ch.11 Mr. Lowe made a well timed withdrawal from a deferred compensation fund. He withdrew his entire amount, almost $2 million, taking a huge tax hit but ultimately getting his money out before Ch.11.

Any employees who tried to take money out of this fund after Ch.11 were told that the funds were not accessible and to instead make a claim in bankruptcy court.

Lowe already made huge $$$ off of his inside information yet he has the gall to still file a claim for more in bankruptcy court. This is the EXACT sort of greed that caused not only Nortel's downfall but also the events that lead us into this recession.

Laws need to be made and enforced. As long as this sort of malevolent greed goes unpunished (and instead rewarded, it would seem) there will be bad people who exploit the rules for the benefit of themselves making everyone else worse off.

If Avaya were a public company, I'd suggest shorting their stock. Too bad they are private, since now there will only be losers. (Unless you count Avaya's competitors)

If there is one person who embodies everything wrong with the whole Ch.11 situation (other than Mike Z) it would have to be the Hacker.

His outrageous management style is only outdone by his arrogance.

Fraud indeed. Lowe's actions reek of Ken Lay style corruption, telling the public one thing while doing the opposite in secret. This sort of mentality and these sorts of actions are what helped Nortel get into the position it is in today.

Ch.11 bankruptcy has become a cheap out for dirty executives to loot the corpse of the very company they destroyed. No where else is this more evident than with Nortel.

Witness the corrupt actions of one Richard Lowe who withdrew $1.7 million from the deferred compensation fund two months before Ch.11 and the subsequent freeze of those assets under bankruptcy laws. Other workers who didn't have inside information were denied access to the deferred compensation fund after Ch.11.

Why would Lowe suddenly decide to withdraw so much money from the fund and take a huge income tax hit only mere weeks before Ch.11? These are the questions that need to be answered.

Even more outrageous is the fact that Lowe is likely one of the benefits of a million dollar KEIP bonus, obtained after Ch.11 while others were being denied severance, having their pensions slashed and LTD put at risk.

And yet Lowe still has the guts to say Nortel still owes him nearly $700K:

Let's hope this protest gets more coverage than the one in Toronto, Ontario last week. People need to know what a disgrace Nortel has been in treating the very workers that helped build the company. There is something very wrong with paying out over 20 million in bonuses to senior and executive management AFTER Ch.11 (8 million of which was contained to the top 7-8 "leaders") while at the same time denying severance, reducing pensions and putting LTD at risk.

Plain and simple, laws need to change or else bankruptcy judges will continue to let companies get away with legalized theft of this nature.

Absolutely disgusting to see Z and his GEnius buddy file claims against the company they helped bring into Ch.11. Z wants two years of his base salary, applicable bonuses and a lump sum of "not less than" 6 million as a pension benefit, all of which comes out to the total you quoted.

How dare this despicable creature demand his outrageous pension when he did nothing to protect the pensions of real workers.

Actually, your translation is completely wrong. As part of the "deal" Nortel attempted to impose unrealistic and unfair terms on the deal, but only with RIM. They said RIM could only bid if they DID NOT submit offers for other Nortel assets for a period of one year.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Another company offers to pay MORE than NSN but is essentially turned away by Nortel by its imposition of unrealistic terms and conditions. This makes no sense. If anyone didn't believe that Nortel's management wasn't seeking to destroy the company before, all doubt has been removed.
