Exactly right-an "intelligent liberal" is one who is not afraid of other peoples' ideas, no matter how radical they may seem. In past decades, like in the 1960s, there were a lot of these people. Sadly, they now seem to be in the minority. If you go to some of the more radical leftist sites like Democrat Underground, only one point of view is allowed, or you get tombstoned. I'm convinced that a lot of that is a function of the relatively youthful age of many of that site's posters.

Even noted Leftist rock star Neil Young has recently mentioned Chimpy Bush in a favorable light. Despite the fact that he wrote a song a year or so ago called "impeach the President", he admitted in an interview a couple of weeks ago that he had to give Bush credit for doing what he believes is right for America.

At the same time, Neil also castigated his bandmate David Crosby for making fun of Bush's speech. Crosby was joking about how Bush pronounces the word "nuclear", and Young went ballistic on him. Of course, Jimmy Carter pronounces that word the exact same way Bush does, so it's a non-issue.

Hawaii's senior Senator Dan Nouye (who took office when Obama was 2 years old) just had to apologize for smearing Obama's Hawaiian prep school. Dan-O is a Hillary supporter, FYI.

Sorry, Nawm, but your law professors at Moe Howard U. obviously forgot to tell you that it wasn't the 5-4 SCOTUS ruling that ended Gore's challenge. It was the 7-2 ruling just before it on the same day

The 5-4 ruling had to do with the remedy. Nothing more.

Hey Nawm, did it ever occur to you that if Gore had succeeded in his attempt to steal the 2000 election, he would have been "appointed" by TWO courts?

In reality, SCOTUS did NOT appoint Shrub in 2000. They simply sided with his legal argument, 7-2.

Please enlighten yourself and read the best objective look at that election, written by a couple of poli-sci professors. It's called "The Perfect Tie".

Can you fly an F-102 fighter, which was one of the most dangerous US military aircraft to fly? Bush could, and did.

Face it, whether a President has military experience or not is irrelevant. A genuine war hero, John F. Kennedy, presided over the Bay of Pigs invasion fiasco, and also increased our presence in Vietnam. His successor, also a military veteran, ended up getting 55,000 of our kids killed over there.

That's comparing apples and oranges. The burning of Washington happened while we were already at war, and most of the 8000 residents had already fled the city.

The 9/11 attacks, on the other hand, happened during peacetime.

It's just too bad that you can't debunk them.

After all, the record is amply evident that such "right wing smears" about al Qaeda working with Iraq came from left wing news sources like the BBC and ABC News way back in 1998. There are numerous examples widely available online-and not at right wing web sites, but at said news organizations' own URLs.

The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done.

Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right. "
