I disagree. Their work has been stolen by others to make money off of millions of non-technical users. They don't want their work sold. They want it to be free for anyone, technical or not, to be able to use without fear of problems. Therefore, they are within their rights, and in my opinion quite smart, to create an app that precludes anyone else stealing it to make profit off of people who are not technically experienced. They own their work, and they can protect it any way they see fit.

Some may agree with your opinion that you would like a release soon, but that does not mean they agree with your rudeness. It also does not mean your and their demanding attitude and lack of respect for people who are working hard to help everyone is not objectionable. Several wrongs opinions do not make a good judgement.

You have a twisted way of showing the DevTeam that you "respect what they do and admire them". The DevTeam thinks of the big picture (I assume) and not just the vocal group of whiners and complainers in this blog. I would be worried instead of tooting my horn if my one claim is that this impatient, selfish group of "give me, and give me now" leeches agrees with me.

Hong Kong sells unlocked. And Optus is Australia will unlock in six months or sooner for a fee. May be others.

btw- the fake email links pop up when someone replies to my posts. Don't want to ask for the last word, but want to go to bed and not worry. I have no clue why that happens, and it's getting annoying. : ( I'm stopping now.

OK, some carriers don't have visual voicemail yet and some carriers are selling officially unlocked or will unlock within time period. I don't know whether the two are related though.

I didn't go into numbers, but that was the point I was getting at by "offsetting". The DevTeam mitigates its own actions in a positive way for Apple. Only Apple and time can tell the financial side. The carriers are another story.

To your second paragraph and last line, I say...Ditto! I have to admit though, I can't remember what Apple's role was in putting on the restriction of one carrier, especially as it hurts their sales. That is likely why the carrier kickback came into negotiations.

OK. Thought about it. Offsetting any costs to Apple is the unit sales revenue boost the DevTeam gives them. Think of how many iPhones are sold to people who otherwise wouldn't buy them because they won't/can't commit to a lengthy provider contract.

Dear DevTeam,

I respect that you don't accept donations on your behalf, but what about directing donations to charity(ies) -- social and/or ecological?

Grateful supporters could (should?) show their appreciation this way. You've attained greater exposure than most charities could hope for. Imagine: 1 million iPhones pwned after donating $1US or 1 Euro each. That would be a bonanza for any charity(ies).

This suggestion is mentioned in other blog comments too over the past days. Please think about it. Your hard, brilliant work could support not only millions who can afford an iPhone, but also many more than that who can't, as well as the environment. (no guilt trip intended :p )

Another little thing to think about: also kinda takes the wind out of anyone's sails who wants to diss you or take your work for profit. Pedestals have their uses. ; )

Whatever you decide, you have my respect and appreciation for your hard work and the tools and insights you've given us.
