However, we need to recognize that that decision did cause an outflow of a number of studios and talent from the Lower Mainland. Today, the industry has stabilized and we are actually seeing the growth of some smaller studios. These smaller studios need a longer time to build their business. Losing the existing tax credit is likely to kill a good number of the smaller studios. I would hope that the BC government will renew for another 5 years (years 1-5) at present levels. However, I would add that they should also announce a gradual reduction of the tax credit starting in year 6 and ending in year 9 to finally ween the industry off the government teat. This would give studios time to establish their businesses and plan for the withdrawal of government financial support.

Re: Why Apple TV is a different strategy to Xbox One

Not so sure I agree with that.
Xbox One can pair with iOS, Android, or Windows via their SmartGlass technology. AppleTV can be paired with iOS only. I think Apple loses the living room if they don't open up to the broader market. Presently switching costs from iOS are high because media is tied to the device. But as Cloud services for media expand - I think the switching costs will be a minor issue.

Re: 'Napkin Capital' Comes to Vancouver with Full Stack

Awesome news. make some noise!

Re: Techvibes' Comprehensive list of Canadian Tech Acquisitions [updated - now 75 transactions]

Montreal's Mobovivo acquired by SabSe Technologies
That's Mobivox not Mobovivo which is out of Calgary

Re: Explicit Groups vs Implicit Groups

I think you are missing the point with circles, Fred.

Out going: Are those in your "music circle" the only ones interested in your music musings? Why would you exclude others? Perhaps Bono would have a circle with music collaborators or influencers that he would continually want to publish privately.

What are the groups I post to? Close Friends, Family, Business, Public. (3 Circles) Public is not really a circle.

In going: Do you really read everyone who you follow on Twitter? If you do :). You have to actively filter to get value from the feed. Way easier using circles.

What groups do I filter on?
Marketing, Developers, Business Leaders, Start-up, Media Commentators (5 Circles)

Was VERY easy to put together. I own a 2005. The 2007 has a slightly higher top speed, which I would appreciate going over the Lions Gate Bridge. $1900 seems like a reasonable price if it is in good condition. I paid $2,000 for mine, but the it had only 500km (In one year I have put over 5500km on the scooter). Many people buy scooters thinking they will enjoy it, but discover that they are very uncomfortable in traffic. Hence you will find many scooters for sale with very low milage.

Re: Mark McKay wins C-61 video contest

I kind of admire the irony of it no being there. Going up Taylor Way is between 45 and
50km/h. Previous attempts to push a bill through parliament were held up due to public pressure. I personally think we can thank Michael Geist for that leadership, but you are accurate that there is not enough ground swell from the population en mass even though this legislation will affect everyone.

The reason I think this may be the case is:
1. It is an esoteric topic.
2. We as a population protest for legislation when we feel pain. Meaning, if crime/taxes are high and we can "see it" or experience it we lobby government for change to rectify the situation. NO ONE is experiencing copyright pain in Canada. We copy our content all the time in ethical manners. Nothing is stopping us today so why worry about copyright and educate yourself on the topic. The greater population did not care about global warming 10 years ago even though scientists were saying the situation was dire, because we were not experiencing the bad effects of global warming.

So, to rectify the situation you need to actively educate the population. Something a la "An Inconvenient Truth"

Which gives me a thought....

Re: The need for an attribution trail

Another Missing Trackback from Victor Stone.

...Maybe because my background in software is in development tools and call me Abraham Maslow but this problems looks very much like a nail to me.

Attribution, on both ends, has to be brain dead simple.
