Can something cheap like Chromecast Audio compete?

Also devices such as Nest smoke alarms, your thoughts on smart TVs vs dumb TVs, any home automation for unusual rooms (pool? Gym? Garage? Bathroom? Garden?), and finally if any of you can justify any sort of automation/smart kitchen device, since clearly it's the year of the internet enabled spice rack.

Re: S07E08 - 100 years of wireless — 361 Degrees Podcast

Great topic. Some fascinating information about early wireless. This may not apply to other topics on the podcast: I enjoyed the absence of debating in this episode - it made for easy listening.

On that note, any chance to boost Rafe's volume? My own fault for using the phones speaker to listen to this while driving at 70mph, although Ben's voice was nice and clear.

Re: Dojo: 46% of Destructoid's readers block ads. I'll wait for the DLC pack / gold version to be released in a year or two and buy that. I was quite disappointed in the previous games that the Desmond story became so dull - it was my favourite part!

Re: Programmer Interrupted

I made a simple rule for the developers around me: if it will save you more than 15 minutes work then they can ask me questions.

Re: TV Preview: Defiance

Very cool, but I've been spoilt by Syfy's Face Off programme now and I really dislike the prosthetic nose / eyebrows on the daughter.

Re: Vodafone’s ‘data test drive’ offer

It's a shame their iPhone 4S tariffs don't include a lot more data. Unfortunately when Samsung, HTC and others get their hands on an Android phone they think they should all tamper with how it looks and feels.

For those of us that got right on board the Android train with the original G1 handset, the clean vanilla Android experience is the only way to go. Luckily there are still handsets out there like the Samsung Nexus S which are as clean as can be, with no manufacturer tampering. I hope more companies in the future allow for this.

On the other hand... if you've grown up with a Windows Mobile HTC handset and switched to an Android HTC handset then you might feel more comfortable. Swings and roundabouts :)

Re: ‘At the carphone warehouse, you won’t pay extra for internet’

"if we feel that your data usage is so excessive that other customers are detrimentally affected and/or we are concerned about fraud, we may introduce a fair use policy" (http://www.talkmobile.co.uk...

I think there would be quite a bit of uproar from customers if Talk Mobile tried that.

Re: Irony: Advertising Standards Authority and the misleading advert

Fascinated by the 250MB/unlimited article you quote, since I now work for them. I want it DRM-free and available to open in whatever reader I like best.

e.g. Amazon MP3 app is not an MP3 player, it's just a store.

It's interesting that Amazon Kindle app is a mix of both, access to the store and then a reader too. Aldiko is the reverse, an ebook reader with access to a few free and paid ebook sources.

Re: 5 Reasons to download Spotify

I love Spotify and all the social features but I can't justify £10 per month for access to it on my phone.
