He's six. And he's aaa-mazing and magical and kind. (aaaa-mazing is his word.)
I wanted a boy. Less political, I thought. Less complicated, I thought. Ton of fun, I thought. And the world needs more enlightened men raised by strong hot mamas, I thought.
All these thoughts have proved to be founded for me. At least so, far. He's only six.
Sometimes I say to him, "Are you gonna be this cool when you're a teenager? Please don't get all miserable and snarky on us."
"Yah, I'll always be super cool, Mama." I feel assured.

Bottom line is this: the LOVE is going to BLOW YOUR MIND. You can conceive of it (pun!) and it's outer limits.

Boys rock.
Mothering boys...total utter divine privilege.
Mud and pirate ships and bugs included.

xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

read: Raising Cain: Protecting The Emotional Life of Boys.
changed the way O looked at all men.

Re: depression vs. sadness: the power of mincing words

beautiful. thank you.

Re: depression vs. sadness: the power of mincing words

I'm with you. While I think we're overly medicated and some MDs should be dethroned for how liberally they dole out the Prozac, I also believe that medication can be a brilliant cycle-breaker and healer so that the human spirit has more support to do what it's mean to do.

Re: depression vs. sadness: the power of mincing words

I agree, that "depression is a signal of much worse"

Re: THE secret to success. this is IT. for reals.

sure do, but never in the same breath as making a commitment. and if I'm a 'maybe' and need to sleep on it, I'm usually really open about WHY I'm a maybe.
