I would like to consider sending Bill Lynch to Bob Knight as a sort of "prisoner exchange" to get Bob back in the fold. Lynch, is by all accounts a good, decent man who does not appear to be much of a coach, and well, that is sort of the "Yin" to Bob's "Yang." Just thinking outside the box while delayed at Boston Logan airport...

Bob, most of us would love to have you back and honor you but the ball is in your court and you appear to have taken the place and kicked it out of the stadium.

I am not sure it affects the recruiting of Kyrie Irving. Heck, we'd take them both. I cannot think that this would somehow diminish Irving's enthusiasm for us. Better to be pursuing 2 guys in the Top 10 Rankings for the class of 2010 than just one (or worse, none). Plus, this will give us all something else to freak out about (besides Irving). Now then, I must go find Mr. Selby on Twitter to start following him...

I think you are correct GFD w/r/t the KI is up in the air and the courting aspect. Once he makes his decision, then a lot of excitement will fade for him. Plus, right now, he's holding all the cards. Once he lays his bets on a school, well, the others aren't exactly going to care about him anymore. If I were a kid being recruited aggressively by IU, Duke and pUKe, then I'd feel very, very cool about myself. I don't begrudge that one bit.
If he commits to Texas A&M, well, there will be the sounds of jaws dropping all over the country...

Actually Chronic, the exact line for it is:
(Jake's = Mars = Axis = Walnut St. Tap = Jake's). It started as Jake's and they never should have changed the name. Now, once they bring back Hooligans, and the Ye Olde Regulator, we'll be in business.

As for Sherron, glad things seem to be turned around for him.

First, a shoutout to Bryan for the line "seizes sketchy opportunities like Rick Pitino in a vacated restaurant." That's a keeper.

Second, most of the posts thus far have hit the major points except this one: the dumb, indefensible age requirement rule that kids cannot go to the NBA right out of high school. It has the perverse effect of making the NCAA a farm system for kids who can play basketball but cannot read (e.g. Derrick Rose, who might be a nice guy, but c'mon.... eligible for college? capable of doing the most basic college work? really? really?). The age requirement that David Stern and the NBA have promulgated is a huge part of this problem, there's no way Rose would have bothered with a year at Memphis - and really, why should he have to do so? Because other kids at 18 decide they would rather declare for the draft than go to college but fail? Um, that's life. People do dumb things all the time, including overestimating their abilities and qualifications for a job, like being a pro hoop player. But instead of acknowledging that reality, the NBA has made this a college problem.
So now you have a system where a kid who should never be in college, suddenly is and combine that with a quality individual like John Calipari - a guy who is actively and shamelessly gaming that system - and you have this situation.
You also magnify this problem when you have an "institution" who decides that, after 2 "lackluster" seasons, a coach they looked at 2 years ago and for unknown reasons "shyed away" from, they then decide he's their man (while putting on blinders, holding their nose and putting in ear plugs). He's perfect for that "school" and their fan base. Enjoy him UK

GFDave, I agree with this post 100%. Give me Williams, Irving and Morgan and I think that is solid. Even better would be Irving, Morgan and Poole and then Irving, Poole and Cobbins.

And I'm also with Chronic Hoosier below re: if Crean lands Irving and Gilchrist and my only question is what flavors of ice cream does Crean provide?

Well put, Cutter. Plus, I'm not sure how much we really know about Knight's true feelings on this situation. No offense, Alex, but you take some pretty big liberties trying to diagnose the situation.

Expecting Coach Knight to do anything beyond cutting a ribbon on something named after him or tipping his hat in front of a frenzied AH crowd would be fairly audacious of the university. Elder statesman/trusted adviser would be a great thing for Coach Crean and the program.
