This is a slap in their face, and completely excludes small businesses, many that rely on Facebook organic reach due to small to no budgets.  The long tail of Facebook revenue will become extinct as it would be very difficult to sell Facebook to them.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Big brands will continue to use since they will not be able to just abandon their communities.  It may become more strictly as a CRM tool and less of a focus on content, unless paid promotion will be put behind it.  Those companies that can afford paid FB ads will continue to adjust their plans to reach users outside of their market, probably trying to drive them to outside sites or directly to an app for the user to take an action. They are great channels to reach fans but Facebook is a viable internal community that many brands are focusing on for many different reasons.  For some brands FB can have more benefits than email marketing and would prefer fans to go to the page than the site....who knows.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I agree that spam isn't an issue. The technology is pointless unless it is used in the appropriate manner.  Having conversations and utilizing excellent customer service practices help not just spread the word, but trust.  In today's world, trust is huge.  If someone wants to confide in you or your product, there as to be a level of trust established.  These basic questions are what every marketer both traditional and online need to do.  Online it's very tedious to do so, but can be done.  Find where your users and thought leaders are and have basic conversations. If you aren't buying cause you have too much stuff, that is different than not buying to save.  You still would have the want but not the need.  The other you have the want but can't afford it.  Different scenarios.  Like you have mentioned, there are ways to declutter, sell on ebay, donate to charity or friends, or just throw out.  So if you really want something, get it.  Don't let cluttering be an issue. With online tools like blogs, twitter, etc, you can easily go about promoting your book to you audience and fan base, and from there trying to build word of mouth.
