i thought maybe Crean was going overboard with his whole "uniting the Indiana program" initiative. i almost threw up in my mouth.

I think Lee was a 3-star.

The reason why he didn't get a lot of high-major attention is because most schools knew he was an academic risk.

To play devil's advocate, maybe the scouts just haven't seen enough tape on Williams yet. Sometimes a prospect is a default two-star (Scout) or unranked (Rivals) because he hasn't been fully evaluated yet. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it could be a possibility.

you're looking at the body of work while ignoring the (only) major factor as to why Davis lasted so long here in Bloomington:

Billy Gillispie went to the NIT in his 2nd year.
Mike Davis went to the National Championship game of the NCAA Tournament in his 2nd year.

all IU has is freshmen, so they're just going to have to learn in crunch time.

once Dumes fouled out, their options were Pritchard (freshman) or Williams (freshman).

"mostly guard skills oriented" - you're right on the money with that, Jerry.

in the past, Crean hasn't had teams that trotted out all players 6'4 and under. but, all of his bigs (the best example probably being Steve Novak) could step out and stretch the defense ala Kirk Haston.

that got me thinking, what's the over/under on the amount of points Haston would average per game under Crean? 64 1/2?

it's too bad. i always liked Armon, but he's had issues with grades and off-the-court- stuff since he was at Terre Haute South.

i wish him the best, but i think he needs to concentrate more on getting his life back together rather than where he should play basketball.

i agreed with that up until this year.

besides IU playing at Wake, i thought the matchups were outstanding. UNC would've beaten the crap out of whomever they played, so throw them out the window. they got matched-up against the supposed #1 team in the big ten, but they would've ruined Purdue as well. five of the games were decided by five points or less. illinois/clemson, ga tech/PSU, wisky/va tech, miami without their two best players/ohio state were all great matchups.

what makes it lopsided is that NC/Duke are usually a cut above any team in the Big Ten, which already puts the ACC 1/3 of the way to winning the Challenge every year.

nice game all around, especially for Nick Will and Pritchard. the free throw shooting (15-19 = 78%) was a lot better, and the defensive intensity seemed to be up from the last few games.

can't take any win for granted and this Cornell team was probably the best team of the winnable games that are on the non-conference slate.

sorry FTW. i'm sure what Ryan meant to say was: "Gee goly, IU sure did look swell last night! Winning by two points over a D-II team with seven active players is an indication that IU is well on their way to a sixth Championship season. Sure, the 14-27 FT was bad, but we can all be thankful that it was better than 50%!"

get a grip. IU is shaping up for a 6-8 win season, and we have to grin and bear it. it was a simple joke and it wasn't a dig at Crean or at the program. there's no reason to be uptight about it.

better days are on the way.

i agree. Coach Crean would've been better off putting a seven-foot ladder in the center of the paint instead of Jobe. the ladder would be just as useful, and probably wouldn't have committed as many fouls.

Nick Williams is really raw. he looks like he's athletic and has some talent (unlike Jobe) but he is a horrible decision-maker.

nowhere in the original post does Millport refer to QB's race. he does not use the word "black" at all. none of his previous posts have been racist or offensive, so i don't know why you took it that way.

all i'm saying is don't take one little comment and turn it into World War III. i'm sure if you asked for clarification (which he gave in his reply) on the comment, none of this would've happened.

I'm offended as well.

i'm also offended by AC Slater from Saved by the Bell. he refers to Zack Morris as "preppy." is he implying that all well-dressed and well-groomed kids at Bayside High are rich, or come from rich families?

let's leave the grade-school whining about something as harmless as "typical jock" at home. i'd hate to see this great IU basketball blog ruined.
