MySpace and Facebook HAVE been monitored by law enforcement agencies. Some of the loonies don't realize that talking crazy on a MySpace or Facebook page is the same as saying these things in a public space.

I wonder if things like MySpace and Facebook, et al, will be something that will/should be monitored by the FBI or local/state agencies. Or are the really dangerous and committed rightwing loonies, as they say, "quiet, kept to himself, didn't know his neighbors, etc."

Now, if we can just get Vermont to do the same, I think that'll be the tipping point for the rest of New England to join the 21st Century. Rhode Island already recognizes same sex marriages from Massachusetts and California, and, I believe, same sex marriages from other countries as well.

Now, if Connecticut will throw Lieberman out of office, I can finally be proud of the state of my birth again!

One last thing, if the Fleischers intended "Mr. Nobody" to be a cartoon darky of the era, Mr. Nobody would have BEEN a cartoon darky of the era, with no ambiguity whatsoever. BIG white lips and rolling eyes and an exaggerated "negro" accent would have been used.

Really, people. Don't read anything into a 70+ year old cartoon that really isn't there.

Note the cigarette holder. A literal "trademark" of FDR was his cigarette holder.

That second character is Al Smith. The cigar was essentially his "trademark". Oh, and do not read anything anti-Semitic into the cartoon. Al was Roman Catholic, and that's a only slightly exaggerated NewYawk City accent. Youse gotta problem wit dat.

And the idea that the Fleischer Brothers would be anti-Semitic is laughable. They were Jewish, as were most of the artists and writers at the Fleischer Brothers Studios.

And as for the very nelly queen near the end. Yep. It's offensive, OK. Of course, SEVENTY FREAKING YEARS AGO society wasn't QUITE as enlightened as it is today. Don't let the "U.M. & M TV Corporation" logo fool you. This cartoon is as old as John McCain.

RE: Watching TV. The only time I actively watch a program at the time it's broadcast is Countdown, Daily Show, Colbert Report and MythBusters.

Everything else is delivered to MIRO via RSS feeds.

My Macintosh is online 24/7 via DSL, with MIRO running in the background. Thanks to RSS and BitTorrent, every other series I watch is downloaded and waiting for me when I CHOOSE to watch, along with some British TV series, BBC News programs and a few others.

What I can't get via BitTorrent, I get via the "alt.binaries" newsgroups, and rarely, the Apple iTunes store.

The ONLY TV schedule is MY schedule.

And when I can finally afford to get a Mac Mini/USB tuner/IR Blaster setup, the Mini will become my DVR for cable programing like Countdown, et al, as well as the networked player for all the downloads grabbed by MIRO and other applications on my main computer.

TV on MY time, not the networks!

I've this little button I picked up at a science fiction convention some years ago.

It's the 'Superman' "S" logo.

I've been wearing it for the past few years as a reminder, to remember the whole "neverending battle for truth, justice and the American Way", that's part of what being a citizen is all about.

Corny, I know. But it keeps me going, day after day, outrage after outrage, marking time until November when I get to cast my vote for what I hope will be truth, justice and the American Way. I know Obama isn't Superman or Jesus or anything other than a slightly left leaning centrist. But compared to Bush, et al...

Brunelleschi's Dome, by Ross King. An absolutely engrossing book combining Florentine history, engineering, archetecture, and politics, and all centered around the construction of the Great Dome of the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore.

It's not a long book, but the story is almost as amazing, as the Dome itself and how it came to be built.

Jeebus! That's a rip off! James Hennesey and Victor Papanek were doing this sort of thing back in 1973/1974 with their books, "Nomadic Furniture" and "Nomadic Furniture 2", by showing how to do it yourself with recycled corrugated cardboard.

I see where the two books are available via eBay:
