well said, hoosiergal! i'm with you ... dj needs to be memorialized somehow in assembly hall. future hoosiers and members of the basketball team should know that you go to IU not only to succeed (eg: win championships), but more importantly to develop into an upstanding, honest, good-willed human being. best of luck, dj. you'll always have a special place in hearts of hoosiers everywhere.

dj white was the backbone for iu this past year, the toughest in hoosier history.

i hope crawford took a few notes from white and learned how to lead in the face of adversity because as one of the few individuals returning from last year's team, he could rise up and have a phenomenal year leading our young hoosiers through uncharted waters. and this could lead to bigger and better things for crawford and the hoosiers in the years to come. let's go, crawford. crean's giving you a chance to rally the troops and lead the hoosiers back to glory. if for nothing else, do it for dj ...

first and foremost, i wish DJ and EJ the best of luck at the next level. i lost interest in the nba after MJ left, but maybe these two will help me turn over a new leaf. that said, are IU press conferences always sponsored by a community organization? how did the jewish community center get thrown into this mix?! nothing against jews, or communities, or centers ... just curious. and lastly, it's sad that the world of sports has become such a big business that i can't even hold in the laughter when a 20 year old says he's going pro for the competition and not for the fame or money. nothing against EJ ... just the way things are. sad. regardless, i hope DJ and EJ dominate in the nba and represent the hoosier family with character and pride both on and off the court.

Davis ran himself out of town...he was a terrible coach who burned bridges with the high school coaches in Indiana. I'm tired of hearing that the fans ran him out of town.

Crean & Crimson, baby! For the glory of old IU ...

I'm pumped about this hire. He has the potential to blossom into one of the great basketball coaches in the land and it is an honor to be an alumnus of the institution he will be leading back to greatness. While a lot of analysis has been poured into the NCAA violations, the departure of players, etc., I think it is integral for those of us who truly bleed crimson to give Crean some space and support him as he takes on this challenge. While M. Davis may not have been the coach of the Hoosiers, I would hate to see fans criticize Crean out of B-Town in a redux of the Davis era. Crean is here to bring us all together once again - to unify us - and I say we give him and the team our full support. Go IU!

Never daunted, we shall not falter ...

My buddy and I had a discussion about EJ. We both thought Gordon may have played his way out of a lottery pick and he will realize that Crean can COACH him back to that point. We call it the Dwayne Wade factor, it may sound silly, but it only takes 1 NBA ALL-STAR to make an impact on younger college kids

first and foremost, GO HOOSIERS! i think this will prove to be a good hire. crean knows he wasn't the front-runner for the job so he's (hopefully) going to do everything necessary to prove the part of the fan-base that isn't 100% behind him that he's going to be our man for a long time and that he deserved this job. and given his record, i think he's got the ability to do a damn good job of that. soon he'll have all the resources to compete with bo ryan, thad matta, etc. as well as the bill selfs, bruce pearls, roy williams, and coach k's of the game. this is definitely a new and fresh beginning.

but of course, this isn't the final piece of the puzzle yet. we still have to wait until june to find out what kind of disaster the ncaa has in store for us/crean/hoosier-country. other than that, I CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON!

*ps: let's hope and pray EJ decides against the nba on monday ...

Well, at least no coach is going to turn away from IU because of High expectations. When he inherits the team is he has a winning season , he will be praised for ending the bloodletting.

Matt Roth, Derek Elston, and Tom Pritchard are thinking, "wow, looks like I will be the star and get some great playing time."

We need to get this drain over and start the healing. It is getting a little ridiculous.

ahhh mediocrity. that's effectively where we're at now. by the end of tomorrow, we should be at futility. i can't blame dakich here. if i were him and i wanted to be treated like the official head coach of the hoosiers, i probably would have done the same thing after my players decided to miss 2 important team meetings in a row. the problem in all of this is that dakich probably won't be the head coach and so this situation just adds to the sh*t show that is iu basketball right now ... ncaa violation, defecting players, high expectations, etc ... none of this looks too hot to coaches who are going to be approached about the position. and ultimately, this search could go longer than expected with dakich actually taking the help. or something along those undesirable lines.

If our next coaching pick is a good one but is turned down, you may be right about having to take someone less than we want. If we are forced to take someone less than desirable, I hope they are a pleasant surprise and can bring us up rather that settle for mediocrity.

I agree. I believe many coaches fear the pressure of winning at IU. These coaches are very comfortable with their current situation and the only way IU will ever get a "Big TIme " coach or a name that is hot and sexy is handing out some serious cash. IU will need the alumni to help do this in order to get that coach.
Unfortunately, they won't beacause these fools think that the name of IU and the tradition alone will bring that coach. It's just like recruiting players, IU needs to show why IU is still an elite place to coach, and show that the positives far outways the negatives.

You could be right about Wisc.

In any big time sales effort however you expect the customer( Bennett ) to have objections. After you hear them you put him a "half nelson" which is " if we handle your objections will you take the job ?" . Then you nail each objection and land the deal.

It worries me that we appear a bit unschooled in executing professional recruiting practices

reading this is definitely depressing/worrisome. i think most of the country still views the indiana job as one of the premier coaching positions in america. only problem is that coaches don't want to leave their program - their established success - for a program that might self-impose penalties on itself in the near future or be punished from above (ncaa) in june. i guess in the end, i can't blame bennett. he's loved out there and by turning us down and saying he'd never coach another team w/in the conference (cal), his loyalty will be rewarded with more cash and more perks by the wsu admin. at this point, i think the only job bennett would take is the wisconsin job and that might be a big reason for him to not take the iu job ... bo ryan may retire in a few more years and bennett doesn't want to be coaching w/in the big10 conf. when that job opens up. i didn't realize how messed up this ncaa violations stuff would be until now. i'm starting to think that unless we get one of the "name" coaches everyone has been talking about, the next coach is likely to simply be a temporary coach for a few years until this ncaa stuff is nothing but a distant blip in everyone's rear-view mirror and then the coaching search will start up all over again. this sucks.

man i really wanted bennett. i'm still going to tell myself that we still have a chance with bennett. is that naive? yes. but i'm ok with that. the only thing better than having bennett as head coach of the hoosiers would be having erin andrews be head coach of the hoosiers ...

I'm not sure who this Jeff Goodman character is, but I'm not believing anything until I hear an official report from either ITH or ESPN. Those are my two reliable sources for Hoosier headlines and I'm sticking to them. Sorry Goodman?

But I hope Bennett does head to BTown.
