Despite my objections and me being burnt out from LBS networks this post convinced me to download Whrrl and jump on the bandwagon.

Will update you with my thoughts as i have them.

Re: Forrester Recommends Caution with LBS

Michael, I tend to agree with you when I decide to wear my LBS is the future hat.

But like most reports from Forrester, they owe it to the industry to be conservative in their outlook. Are the possibilities mind-blowing? Absolutely. Is the rate of adoption face melting? Debatable. But what isn't debatable is that we don't know how long engagement within these networks will last. Hell, Facebook practically owns the world and I still cant get behind recommending some initiatives for my clients.

Earned media still needs to have a solid ROI. Marketers and their stakeholders will always default to impressions and CTR as their metric of choice because its less risky//more sterile.

I think that LBS will find a real marketing case in the future. But if you think Forrester missed the boat on this one you need to go spin your totem, cause you be dreaming.

Re: Where are they now? 14+ Social Media Professionals to watch for in 2010 from Triangle, NC area #smday

Wayne, Always an honor to be mentioned by you and with a group of great people and social media rockstars! It will increase direct mail and catalog sales and sell trending data back to the senders.

Re: Days Never Finished

There is nothing to be afraid of. In fact I would go as far as to say the only thing to be afraid of is over preparation. Sometimes prepping everything in advance gives you a sense of calm, but it also gives you a sense of stability. So when the baby is born and everything gets rocked to the core, that makes your over preparation seem unstable.

Do the necessities. Get the carseat and set up the crib and paint the nursery. But let everything else happen naturally. I have 3 kids (ages 7, 4, and 2) and they are the best part of who I am. Good luck!

Re: The Value of Online Credibility When Networking Offline - Twine Interactive Raleigh NC

I maintain my online profiles weekly (if not daily). The key is to do it right the first time, then its all just maintenance from there.

This world we live in is definitely an improvement form the networking hassles of yesteryear. Thanks for shedding light on the work necessary to network effectively now.

Re: How to Interact With Social Media Rock Stars…and Others

Good post Brian! I moved here in 2008 and have met most of my business contacts through social media. I try my best to engage people on a personal level through Twitter and Facebook as well as make it out to events as much as I can. I have found that its the cocktail of in person and online interaction that creates the most impact.

Re: Mob By Social Media

<sigh> You clearly didnt get the point of the article. I must admit, it gives you pause when unfollowing someone in fear that they will know. It will be interesting to see how people will deal with rejection. Like this one for instance: http://twitter.com/juliaroy...

Re: Three Ways to Build Community or A Community is Not A Field of Dreams

One thing people should not forget is the willingness to play nice with others. The bottom line is people dont want another Twitter. They don't want another Facebook. But if you can create something that integrates into them, you are much better off.

Imagine a Blip.fm without the Twitter integration? Of a Brightkite or a Seesmic or 12 Seconds? You may develop a small group of early adopters but it would nevere expand and would eventually die.

Re: The New Ways to Say I Hate You

Love this article and it brings up a lot of questions regarding social media, social networking, and how it is relevant to the post -30 crowd.

One of the issues with places like Facebook is the wide range of reasons people join them. Some may only be there for the games, or for the pics, or for the "lil green patch". But no one really knows that as they see pages of "Friends You May Know".

Sites like LinkedIn do take steps to have people self-select the type of interaction they are interested in. Facebook, not so much.

One question I have is as people find new ways to say, "I hate you", is that bad? De-friending someone is the best way to tell people I hate you IMHO. It is direct. It doesn't string people along while sending a definite message and avoiding being face to face or voice to voice.

Re: Pete Cashmore - Mashable - Nerd Stalker #10

Great interview. I know! Let's reveal to the whole world how much the Mac ads bother us by hitting head on that they stereotyped us!

The Apple ads ran their course years ago. But Apple is the big winner here. Now they know MSFT was pissed. And now all the watchers of the MSFT ads know that too.

Re: Extra Cheeze - I LOVE the smell of pepperoni in the morning.

Who doesn't?

Re: Will Corporate Presence on Social Networks Ruin Customer Evangelism?

Well, true.
