Do we all remember the crap that was the last metal box of possessed for chaos marines? They were pretty rubbish and were replaced fairly quickly with some very awesome plastics.

A good looking set of miniatures is going to be a good start to the new army.

Then it would need to be a better selection of transports and support. We all expect something heavier in armies, and I could see some sort of heavy assault or heavy armor being a big help.

Rules wise, I found the DE fairly good. But this was for third, and we aren't seeing them on the same level as more recent editions of codex armies.

Hell, if the miniatures are as good as the eldar, (thanks to JG) we might see people buying them to use as eldar models if the rules stink.

Re: 40k Pic of the Day 10-13-09

McDonald Marines. Everyone was taking an Inquisitor to get it. Same with assassins for a while. Don't stress so much, it will probably turn out to be a fairly simple solution to fix. Like, killing the rune priest as soon as possible. And I haven't seen any rules giving the Wolves Orbital bombardment, so it looks like you get this instead. Much like a trade off.

But there are bigger and better things coming for nids, so best hold off the cries of nerf bearded cheese till we see what is in store for the other armies.

Re: 40K Ridiculous Assault Stories

A squad of super gretchin (back when you could have them) figthing off a howling banshee squad in close combat, then running them down as the eldar broke against the superior numbers of the gretchin.

And then there is one where a Space Hulk (1st edition) genestealer hybrid uses lightning arc to kill every marine apart from two on the board on turn two. Then the hybrid shoots one of the remaining with a las pistol and kills the marine. Leaving the librarian to complete the mission by himself. Which he does, and the kill counter for him went into the hundreds before we ran out of paper to record them. Somehow the librarian closed off all the access points and won the game.
But really, the hybrid almost won the game single handed for the stealers. Space Marine with shuriken catapult? Yep. Chaos Marine with conversion beamer? Yep. These were all official gear and allowed in the lists. Rogue trader allowed you to buy random rolls on charts for your weapons, so you could have all sorts of gear from game to game. Which meant you would not really be able to show all the possible combinations on your commander. A stand in, or roughly similar one always did the business.

And for those times when you just had to test a new vehicle, (like a forgeworld one) before buying it, then a similar sized non 40k vehicle was always best. (so the third landraider wasn't actually a vindicator causing the chance for a mistake in game)

I do it on occasion to try out new units/vehicles or so I can run a whole army as a counts as something else. (my squats counting as IG for instance)

Re: 40k Pic of the Day 8-17-09

the 'adeptus arbites' can now be referred to as the walking 'ablative armour' squad.

After seeing those vehicles, I am tempted to start collecting some arbites for myself...

Re: 40K NEWS: Space Hulk Arrives!

aside from talisman you mean?

Re: 40K NEWS: Space Hulk Arrives!

But the fact it is a limited edition means they are probably running it out to keep the licenses related to the intellectual property of the game. Much like they did with talisman. Which is a shame, as this game would be a great start into the hobby. I know it got quite a few friends hooked on GW stuff over the years. Which I don't think they have done before.

I would be bitterly disappointed if the mystery box IS space hulk as that would mean it is a one off, and not to be supported with extra stuff. That is certainly a bit I can bring in to my generic space marine chapter.

Hopefully the talk of the sprue having 30+ heads means there was only one or two with silly hair. You either break the enemy in the first two turns, or you are pretty much gone.

Same with the genestealer invasion force (based off the old cult rules) or the more modern version.

But having a theme would interest me more, if its SM, then perhaps one which is an expeditionary force looking for something or scouting for intelligence on an enemies strengths.

Actually, I would love to see an Inquisitor army done up as a Rogue trader who is trying to 'negotiate' some new locations for items to sell. The IG would be done up as mercenaries rather than proper guard models.

Just a thought.

Or maybe even a full arbites army from the BOLS list... I would love to see how that fares against other armies.

Re: NEWS: GW Design Podcast IV: Jes Goodwin

well, it is great to have confirmation that he is halfway through the range.

And 'next' is always subjective, as the IG stuff is either done, or gone down the line from his hands. Same with the SW stuff, that may have been done by one of the other guys, OR is just a few plastic sets (like DA) and some metal stuff done by some other sculptors. Remember Jes is head of plastics now, so unless it is a special project, you wont see him doing anywhere near the amount of metal he once did.

But knowing he is sorting out the range for DE, I am very happy.
