When you compare the cost of the 3d printed pieces people are making for zone mortalis (that are WAY more creative and detailed) that are cheaper than the plastic kits, it’s hard to justify the spend on just some walls when you can get detailed alternatives that are better AND cheaper.

I haven’t even looked at playing ash wastes because I almost choked when I saw the cost of the transport and the Hab unit prices. (Yay Australian prices).

I am hitting the ‘it’s cheaper to buy a good resin printer than the bigger boxes’ point and it won’t be long before I am only picking up bits from eBay to go with printed stuff.

Re: Warhammer 40K: Kill Team – Pick The Right Tool For The Job With Flexible Upgrade Options

I agree it is a little like trying to read semaphore spelt in Greek. They didn’t, so the cut she should have been allocated from streaming went straight into Disney coffers.

Based on the original contract of ‘theatrical release only’ it’s a cut and dry case of breach of contract. It’s in a lot of other contracts they have in place, it’s just negligence on their part for not sorting out the streaming issue before doing it. Expect someone to get fired over it.

It isn’t as if they didn’t have time when the movie release was delayed something like 18 months.

Re: 40K RUMORS: Psychic Awakening Books and Boxed Sets

The black Templar vs Orks is probably the box people were confusing as a new starter rather than as a psychic awakening force box. Changing the story and moving on the timeline isn’t such a big deal considering the already changed galaxy map. But the death of the emporer would signal the start of a civil war, or he is already dead and they have just been hiding it for millennia. That at least would give a much more convoluted galaxy to fight over, and would be a great way to add new Xenos races trying to expand into the old empire of mankind. ;-)

Re: Warhammer 40K: The Mystery of Psychic Awakening’s Rules

The refresh of old kits into plastic is great, but from the name, I do see the expansion aimed at psychic abilities. More choice for the psychic units in regards to abilities, and we may see something like AOS and the perpetual spells. It would also be the time to drop an unexpected inquisition force. Sisters of silence would be a big old wrench in the works if they got a few more units to round them out against boosted psychic enemies.

Re: Warhammer 40K: The Mystery of Psychic Awakening’s Rules

Could be done with expansion packs like the chapter specific packs they sell for marines. This for my money could be off a new penitent engine, or something in their vehicle range getting a new model. The lack of a mechanicus cog skull on it makes me think it may be something that isn't specifically made by the mechanicus, meaning it isn't going to be for Space Marines or Imperial Guard. Or we are all way off and its a new heavy unit for the genestealer cults for apocalypse. Literally having it as a free option negates having to think about it, because you can drop bare bones heavy weapon squads in and have it as the default weapon. Don't change the rules, keep it the basic squad heavy weapon option, but at the free price point, it becomes more viable.

Re: Coming Soon From GW: Citadel Contrast

I love how they put out a promo with the release date and got the product name wrong...

CONTAST.

Most of us just skim over the spelling mistake to worry about the release date. ;-)

Re: Geekery: Vanity Fair Shares Gorgeous New Photos from ‘Star Wars: Rise of SkyWalker’

Honestly the movies seem like too many cooks ruining it. The first run of the multipart vanguard would be possible (like tooth and claw). But a new Chaos or new guard army would be a more reasonable assumption. (Chaos guard even). Or a new army like sisters of silence, sisters of battle (helping test the waters for the full release later in the year). But Chaos seems to be the flavour this year, so new Slaanesh marines or Khorne marines from the two legions not given codex books yet would match up.

Or it might just be Tau/tyranid/ork as we haven’t seen them in boxes yet.

But dark angels vs fallen would be a pretty limited niche box don’t you agree?

Re: Warhammer 40k & WFB Minis Trivia Challenge

Imperial guardsman on Vincent black shadow bike, orc giant crossbow and crew and fimir champion.

Re: 40K Top 5: Favorite Adeptus Astartes Stratagems From Vigilus Defiant

Is it me, or have they switched the unit designation from ‘adeptus astartes’ to ‘space marine’ on these? Is this the first instance of them admitting we still call them space marines or is it an indicator of an upcoming scism in the astartes ranks, leaving adeptus astartes as the followers of guilliman and the dedicated imperialists as space marines? Of course for now both can use each other’s strategies...

Re: Goatboy’s 40K: GW’s Designers Have Been Watching & Ruling

The simplest solution would be to limit the choices of stratagems to the warlords faction only, or a more complex solution is you can only use command points generated by that faction by themselves, so a guard cp battery would be the one using the command points it generates, the knight army attached to it could only use the command points it generates. Meaning abilities that allow for regaining spent ones would only be viable for the faction that had that ability. It would at least tone down the cp problem.

My vote is for a warlord faction strategy only solution. All my armies are single faction, so really it doesn’t make any difference to myself, but it would change the loyal 32 to something else in most armies... ;-)

Re: 40K: Rogue Trader – The Elucidian Starstrider Codex And You, A Primer

I like the idea of Elvis Skywalker, (sorry it already has a trash name like Robot Girlyman with my friends), but I am not overly enthused by the models, so will build my own little team to replace the models and use the rules. The box has a set of orky terrain, kind of like hastily assembled barricades, or just piles of wreckage to drive around. To me it looks like the old warbike option for nobz/warboss (from RT era) where there was a driver as well as the nob passenger. Or we may be seeing a new vehicle option for warbosses. The new codex IS just around the corner, so something new and shiny for kult of speed themed armies might be a nice tie in.

Re: 40K: After the Codexes – The Books We Need Next

And all of them are armed solely with 'blue steel' ;-)

Re: What to Do with Primaris Space Marines - Hope and Tragedy - Bell of Lost Souls

Other than a cheaper transport option (say a repulsor minus most weapons for example) my preference would be to see some kind of faster moving support unit. Yes, I know they have their astronauts of blazing guns akimbo, but a solid bike unit to fit the long range recon role or fast moving cavalry role would give it more of a complete force, yes, bikes don’t suit them, but jetbikes would... ;-)

I do see them needing to be supported by normal marines, with longer range heavy weapons, but a small devastator unit would be helpful in taking on the heavier armour of opponents at range.

I know several people who try desperately to have them as a force unto themselves, but as part of a mixed imperium force, they do tend to become your main core and anything lacking is filled by the allied units. Having those types of options within the force would be nice, rather than adding a unit of scout snipers and predators instead. (Sorry those are my two go to marine units that just make every force I field)

Re: 40K: The Games Workshop FAQ Timing Issue

I like seeing them being responsive in trying to keep a semblance of balance, but some of these should have been spotted during the playtesting they are supposed to do.

The character one does get annoying, as I have seen a small hidden squad unable to be targeted acting as a shield for a character who is literally out in the open. From memory, it was previously you could change from the normal firing procedure after a successful leadership check. Something that takes into account assassin armies or a heavily armoured squad (or cheap character) chucked into heavy terrain to act as a shield for advancing characters. Especially as you have to charge the closest enemy - being the hidden squad - rather than the character in the open.

Re: 40K: 5 Cool Things I Learned From Codex Drukhari

Any good storyteller will tell you that they are story 'doorways' vague reference to something that can be picked up later and used as an additional story arc without having anything actually set in place beforehand. For example, this was done within the first Necron codex intentionally as they wanted to have a few options to expand the background and stories whilst keeping a tie in to them within the earlier books. :-)

Re: 40K: Sportsmanship & Competitive Gaming – An Uneasy Pair

I know of a local gangster organised Poker game that I would love for you to try cheating in. Just hope you don't get caught as they would love to take some of your fingers to teach you a lesson and to make sure others don't cheat in their games. And I don't mean just break the bones. I do mean take. It isn't easy to play cards with no thumbs...

Just because you think cheating to win when there is prize money doesn't make it any more 'right' than at any other time. You are not only 'stacking the odds in your favour' you are actively breaking the rules of the game to harm the opponents chances in the game. Using loaded dice in Las Vegas for example will get you a lifetime ban from the casinos there and anywhere else that has access to their banned player database. (unless it is run by gangsters and then you will get a beating AND be banned for life)

Re: 40K: Sportsmanship & Competitive Gaming – An Uneasy Pair

Really? So if I slipped you a sedative in your drink during the tourney and had you disqualified for slow play (because you kept falling asleep and not finishing your turn) that would be okay with you?

Cheating is NOT okay if you don't get caught. I shudder to think how bad your moral compass is, and would not want to think how you treat people you date/marry.

I have played in tournaments against people who did all levels of cheating from dodgy dice (the I am going to use my lucky dice for this roll) to having their friends 'accidentally' look at all my yet to be used cards/powers (from the edition where that was a thing) to having them suddenly declare that the troops that they initially said were in their rhino were actually held in reserve when I obliterated the aforementioned rhino. Actually all those happened in one tournament game against someone who became well known for cheating in the local community. To counter my complaints against them of cheating to the tournament organiser, they complained my army was illegal (it was almost a match to theirs) as they had decided no one else should be allowed to have a similar list to them, and that I was using invalid models (most of my army was my classic RTB01 marines as I wanted to bring something different to gain a few extra points for army uniqueness). Suffice to say it put me off the local tournament scene for quite a few years having to go through all that crap.

I did end up ranking second in that tournament, only being knocked down from first as I was tied to the winner and they used VPs in games to determine the winner and the other player had faced a tyranid meat grinder battle where they had to survive the game and the tyranids could recycle units or similar. (from the first tyranid codex rules) so they had literally 60 more VPs than I did as the disqualification of my opponent gave me zero VPs for their game even though I got the tournament points for the win.

Re: 40K: New Factions That Should Come In 2018

I would like to buy carnifex models, but can't.
