I'd pick up a Sony RX100mk3 or a Fuji x100t for my wife, so we could start going on photo walks together! And I'd get a Sony 35mm 1.8 for my a6000 with the rest of it.

I'd buy a some lenses for my new Sony a6000! Maybe the Sigma 19mm/2.8, and Sony's 35 and 50mm.

That's a really good point, Geoff (in fact the whole post is). I've seen plenty of RPFs that were so obviously written for one company (or person) in particular that it might as well have said "The CEO must be named 'Bruce' and he has to be a fan of Pink Floyd. 'The Wall,' mind you, not 'Dark Side of the Moon'."

I've even heard allegations (second-hand) of RFP scoring totals being changed after the interviews to accommodate the 'correct agency.'

However useful RFPs might have been when they were originally thought up, nowadays the vast majority don't provide much more than a thin veneer of fairness to an already rigged game. And the agency bosses that I've spoken with about RFPs in the past just wish that government organizations/etc. would have the balls to just tell everyone "this is who we've picked" and stop wasting their time.

That's an interesting idea. I was hoping to do that with "social media instructor," since I teach at UNM and I teach as well when I work with clients or in my day job at UNM (where I do social media as well).

Not quite. :-) Thought I did develop my degree to focus on Internet Communications in college, it's more the result of ten years of work and study, in addition to time working in the media before moving into PR and now social media.

Man oh man, this is why I miss our Journal Agate sports discussions, Liza! That's a great point, that lack of awareness comes in part from never being told "no" by others in the organization. I did notice in this story that the Washington NFL PR employees had no comment for the media, which is always a bad sign for an organization trying to build some kind of public sentiment.

Wow! I'd love to use this camera for a project I've had on the back burner for a while but still want to do, "Still Life with Twitch." (Having Tourette's and loving photography can make for some interestingly blurry photos at the worst times.)

This is a great reminder that many of us need to achieve a firmer work-life balance and try to put those closer relationship points, such as family, first. And that "my work is my life, therefore it's technically in balance" isn't a valid excuse anymore. We need to be able to relax and enjoy life if we can.

I've been trying to do that more over the years after my wife (then fiancee) had to be rushed into Cardiac ICU for a week a few years back with a critical heart problem. That really reminded me of what mattered the most in my life, and work wasn't anywhere close to the top of the list.

As for the holiday season, I don't know if I'll be easing back as much as switching cars to redline. ;-) I've put my new consulting blogging and the book I've wanted to write on the back burner and it might be time to bring them up to the front for a while.

That's one model I was thinking of when I wrote this. Larger companies should want to promote those fast moving execs and get them trained so they can run with the ball in their own departments (mixing metaphors, I know). Were there any qualities that stood out among the successful executive secretaries in your companies?
