Thank you for your question and your concerns. Incontinence products like Poise generally contain some sort of absorbent polymer material, similar to what is contained in diapers or some feminine hygiene products.

However, it probably would be best for you to contact the manufacturer of Poise to get more information about their product specifically and whether it is safe for you to continue wearing the clothing exposed to the gel. You can find them online at http://www.poise.com.

Thank you for your comment. As far as I know, there are no lawsuits currently pending about Soma. It was mentioned simply as a drug with a similar function to Darvon and Darvocet, so patients can be aware and ask their doctor. I am sorry to hear you had trouble with it!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the bladder sling surgery. I am happy to hear that you are not having any problems, and that your friend is doing fine also! That is good news. Every experience is different; we just think it is important to share the latest safety reports from the FDA, and also from patients who have not had such good results. With increasing reports of problems with this type of mesh, it's important to adjust the risk level, so everyone can make an informed choice. We appreciate your feedback in this discussion!

That is so true! Thanks for pointing that out. I think often people don't realize just how long manufacturers and industry have known about the dangers of asbestos. Thank you for the clarification and additional information, Dr. Bonny. It helps piece together what’s happening in that part of the Gulf. Back in August I blogged about the Mobile Press-Register report, in which Dr. Bea from UC Berkeley indicated that the oil’s point of surfacing about one mile from the well is about the point that the oil should show up factoring in the depth of the well and circulation currents in the water. But I see how I may have pulled that information in at the wrong point and worded it too broadly, making it sound like your claim. So thanks again for your clarification.
