Wow - never thought I'd see an interview with Willie Wisely! I actually own Turbosherbert (got it through being music director at my college station) and I love it - though it's the only album I've heard from him. Great interview - gonna have to check some of the rest of his stuff out now that I know he has more.

I agree with you on the slim pickings from the '80s. Everyone has their own criteria so if influential college band is one of them for you - then I can see how The Replacements would be a choice. For me, what did they have, two or three minor hits? That doesn't scream HoF for me. Someone like The PIxies should end up there as well then, and that's another band that doesn't scream out to me.

As for '80s artists - maybe Whitney Houston or Janet Jackson though I'm not sure about either of them. Janet before Whitney in my opinion. I think we're seriously lacking on the funk end - I think I could make a decent case for Kool & The Gang - but even that is suspect. But Frank Stallone deserves to be there.... um...wait.

Pat Benatar is an interesting choice. We can't use current airplay as criteria to get into the Hall though. I mean, in 20 years I'm almost certain that Nickelback will still get played and no one can tell me they'll deserve to be there. Pat doesn't scream out Hall of Fame material to me at all. She was innovative for her time, I give her that. And she influenced a lot of people, that just not enough for me.

Please Gabriel however is one that I would have put on the borderline before, but you might have convinced me. One of my favorite albums ever is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and both So and Us are great and between the label and his humanitarian work, he's got to be close at least. I just wish he'd actually put out some music now and again. It would be a no brainer for me if it didn't take him 6 years to construct something decent for himself.

I actually love "Walk The Dinosaur" as well, though I won't be the one to defend it very much as I can see why a lot of people don't.

I think you've hit it right on, Jeff. Was (Not Was) had really good bursts of creativity but were plenty scattered at points.

I like Don's son (I think) in Eve 6 quite a bit though.

Rush and Kiss should definitely be in. Strangely enough - I think Weird Al deserves to be there as well. How many artists say "you know you've made it when Weird Al does a parody of you." He's the pioneer in that genre and no one can match him. To me that's what the RnR HoF should be about.

It would be better re-named as the Recording Industry Hall of Fame or something like that - because Madonna is not rock - but certainly deserves to be there.

It's way too easy to get in - to the point where it only means something to me because I might get to see some memorabilia one day. Past Madonna, I'm torn on the rest of them. I'm not even sure I believe Mellencamp should be there.

That said - my trip to the HoF four years ago was one of the best experiences of my life. And I would recommend it to anyone.

I actually am a fan of Opeth, scraps - and I'm assuming that's the band in 14. But hell, even that longer clip you have up could be anyone of like 30 tunes - but I'll make the guess of "To Bid You Farewell" off the Morningrise album.

Dolby was incredibly underrated. It's a shame that radio didn't give a crap after "Science". He deserved much more than he got. Thought it's really nice to see an artist continue to make album after album of great music no matter how the music sells.

Personally, I think the difference between Soho and PM Dawn is that PM Dawn had really solid albums. Their first two are excellent and you can make a case for the third one too (not so much #4). I don't think this Soho album is actually any good.. So I do think PM Dawn got the bigger shaft. I think of Alien Ant Farm with this too - not really a sample, but their cover of Smooth Criminal. They are a good band, but if you release that immediately recognizable track up front, it's hard to get that out of your head.

If you can even believe this - I just bought this record about a month ago - for 50 cents. I'm not shitting you. Maybe I have your copy. If so, I will take good care of it, but no, you cannot have it back.

Bizzare record indeed. Since I collect 80's music - I bought it simply because I didn't have it - but I have to admit - the cover really intrigued me/frightened the bejeezus out of me. I was pretty shocked at how decent "5 o'clock" was. And actually I don't think "Food Fight" is that bad either. I have to think your view is tainted because you knew it was the Village People. I would have liked to have seen what you thought if you didn't know the artist. It's a pretty silly song, I admit - but I've just listened to it three times. So maybe that means I even like it. Shhh.

This is one of the better weeks that you've looked at here. Only two songs didn't deserve the top 10 - "we're ready" and "touch me". I give no shit for liking Chicago. I think Peter Cetera is one of the best pop vocalists ever, so I love all of Chicago's 80's music.
The highlight of these 10 is definitely "Keep Your Hands to Yourself".The Georgia Satellites were so underrated...I mean "Battleship Chains" is such an awesome track.

Anyway, yes - that Samantha Fox video was pretty awkward. I loved the fact that she tried twice to get the audience to stand up and not one person did.

I've never been a fan of these guys. I can deal with chaos in the right setting. I'm a huge fan of Fantomas and well, that's just noise, but it's noise that works for me. I've never been able to really grasp what these guys are going for, for some reason. I have no plans on listening to the album - but "Agadez" is actually pretty good (but why was the last 30 second really needed). "Metatron" however is exhausting right from the start. Just as you described it - there's just way too much going on right from the beginning and by the 1:30 mark or so, I've had enough. The world tells me I should like them and I just can't seem to do it.

This is why this site is so awesome. What a great post. I have tons of respect for those who can just listen to two songs and know right away that they could be mashed together well. But there's too many idiots tossing song A over song B when they don't flow well. All of these are quite cool.
