Glad you were able to find something that works for you. I've been considering getting a laptop myself off and on for the past couple of years. My hang-up has been getting one that's portable, has plenty of room on the keypad, and is easily affordable.

Re: eReader Bliss

I find it amusing that the gentleman displaying the item has difficulty getting it to work correctly at first.

Aside from those false starts, this looks like an interesting piece of tech. I've never really paid attention to things such as this before. Never even heard of the Kindle. I'm not sure how much it'd help me in my work (I tend to mark up my documents extensively with arrows, cross-outs, and notes in red ink).

The only way this would catch my eye is as a way of storing media such as novels/magazines for entertainment and leisure reading. As such, I'm curious as to the memory capacity (i.e. can you fit a 500 page novel on this?)

I am quite pleased to see there are people and companies running with this idea.

Re: Due to Hilarious Printing Error, Latest Batman Comic Curses

Well, ya know what they say...

Any publicity is good publicity.

Re: Set Gmail as Default Mailto for Firefox 3

Odd, I can't get this to work. Can't remember where I read it, but I do remember thinking that the numbers seemed about right. After all, who cares about other people's liberties? As long as I've got mine, you can go jump off a cliff, right?

Sad, sad, sad.

'Course, I suppose it's not too bad. At least it was just high schoolers (who likely will discover the "Real World" by it giving them an unceromonious a kick in the face. It's just using an equation complex enough to model "everything" all at once. It will include the laws of thermodynamics.

This is, quite simply, a case where they're getting energy from somewhere other than what they're measuring or their equations are wrong. Those are the only two possible alternatives.

Well, other than God himself stepping in. I won't get into that, though.

Re: Free Energy?

Okay, after having watched the video, I'm gonna have to say that there's an energy source that's being tapped somewhere that someone is missing in their analysis of this process. If I had to guess, I'd go with Occam's Razor and say that they aren't factoring in the energy required to generate and maintain the magnetic fields used to propel the particle. A variation on a mistake that has often left many engineering and physics students sitting around, scratching their heads, and saying, "WTF am I missing here?!"

Re: Free Energy?

Bah.

Anyone who purports to have broken the laws of thermodynamics automatically loses all credibility with me.

If it turns out I am mistaken, I will, of course, retract that statement. Is this moron stating that he will guarantee that the battery will not go bad during that storage time?

If a person needs a gun, they really need a gun. And that this is life-saving equipment that needs to be as reliable as possible?

2) It's totally useless with the availability of reloading equipment such as it is.

3) The cost of each cartridge will jump significantly with the addition of a solid state switch to them.

4) A minimally competent criminal will likely have no problem bypassing this system once it's been on the market long enough for a few tech savvy folks to disassemble one and diseminate that knowledge. (Heard of hotwiring, anyone?)

Nevermind all that. We've GOT to make people FEEL safe whether they really are or not. And I suppose that if you're ignorant or an idiot, this will make you feel better.

I am truly amazed at the need folks have to feel safe. The world isn't safe. Take the risks you have to and the ones you believe to be necessary for a better future. But don't think you can legislate or engineer risk out of life. You can't. At best, you'll have wasted all your effort in the attempt. At worst...well...let's just say that I believe there are things in this life that are worse than death or injury and leave it at that.

Re: Advent Children

Uhhh....

No, it's in English. That man was a master at getting completely away from the topic at hand.

But I digress.

Did I approve of us going to war? Absolutely. For the simple reason that we said that we would if Hussein did not allow weapon inspectors into Iraq. Boy who cried 'wolf', anyone? However, I'm really not certain I agree with us putting a democratic government in power. I'm thinking that the only way that democracy is truly appreciated is if it's purchased with the blood of patriots.

But that's just me. But, in the forum where he speaks out, he says he used a Glock in .40 S&W.; Don't know whether it was a model 22 or 23. The round was 165 gr. Golden Sabers.
