I noticed that they serve brunch. I hope to try it sometime soon! Does everyone know that they are now serving dinner every night? Great menu....reasonable prices. I didn't know they served dinner, so I didn't have dinner there tonight, but I did have some of their wonderful pumpkin soup and a terrific iced gingerbread latte. The bill was about half what I expected...have of what a "chain" place would charge! The employees are extremely helpful...and patient. The only thing I didn't like there was the background noise (music??? not my idea of music).

Re: All you students and bookworms, beware of Starbucks downtown

Thanks for the tip about Cafe Nola. I looked at their Web site (www.cafe-nola.com) and plan to go there the next time I am in Frederick. They are located at 4 East Patrick Street. The menu on their Web site looks inviting and very reasonably priced.

Does anyone else have any good places for free WiFi -- with yummy things to eat and good stuph to drink at resonable prices?

Re: All you students and bookworms, beware of Starbucks downtown

WHY in the WORLD would ANYONE go to ANY Starbucks???? They CHARGE for Internet access, the help usually are rude and uninformed, they aren't good at getting orders right, they don't have much of a selection of anything to eat, and they are wayyyyyy overpriced. I don't need free Internet access, because I have a SPRINT datacard...BUT I go to PANERA to support them, because before I got my SPRINT card I used PANERA's FREE Internet access. PANERA and FREDERICK COFFEE COMPANY also offer more variety of things to eat and drink at MUCH better prices!

PLEASE SUPPORT PANERA and FREDERICK COFFEE COMPANY and others who provide FREE Internet access. And BOYCOTT all the greedy businesses such as Starbucks that charge!!!!!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

That sounds like fun...but I'm out of town from the 25th through the 29th (my birthday trip -- another year older...UGH!!!). I'll have to look up jazz/funk fusion. My favorite jazz is West Coast cool -- Dave Brubeck, the MJQ, Jacques Loussier, etc.

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

That should work even better! I hope to be there!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

I hope to be able to make your Open Studio event this Sunday! And I love your idea of having a FredMdOL gettogether for a jazz night. Just let me know when and where!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Darren:

I am on so many EMail and Snail Mail mailing lists that it is impossible to remember them all.

EMail lists: Baltimore Classical Guitar Society (I am a member), Eric Byrd's Jazz List, An Die Musik (Classical and jazz venue in Baltimore), the Washington Balalaika Society, Cathedral Choral Society, Rick Whitehead (jazz)'s List, Janna Audey (voice)'s list.

Snail Mail lists: Kennedy Center, George Mason University performing arts, Mount Saint Mary's performing arts, McDaniel College performing arts, Strathmore Center for the Performing Arts, Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Baltimore Symphony, Fairfax Symphony.

There are TONS more...but those are the ones I can think of now. Also there are a couple of churches in Baltimore (Second Presbyterian, Catonsville Presbyterian, and St. Mary of the Assumption are the ones that come immediately to mind) whose Web sites I check frequently for their classical music concerts.

So........I am not in need of finding out where/when the concerts are. I just wish I could find someone else who likes to go to them!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Darren:

Thanks for the links. I didn't see anything on either one of them about classical music, jazz, gallery openings, museums, or wine tastings. But I did see some interesting things...and I'll keep my eyes open in case any of the things I'm interested in show up. The real problem is: I don't need a source for finding these events. I am on every classical music and jazz, etc, mailing list in existence. I just want to find other people who share these interests.

Re: Broadband internet options in Frederick

Neither I nor any of my "neighbors" (I use the term loosely...I live in one of the still-farmland areas of Carroll County) could get Verizon to give us DSL...we tried for more than 10 years. I found a GREAT alternative: For $60 a month I have a little USB gadget from Sprint that gives me Internet access wherever I am! I use it on my Desktop in my office and on my laptop wherever/whenever I travel. Having consistent broadband access allows me to use SKYPE for my phone service ($24 a YEAR for each incoming line ...I have two...one with a Northern Virginia/Metro DC number and one with a Maryland number...and $3 per MONTH for outgoing calls to the US and Canada. My total phone bill is $84 PER YEAR!!!!!!. The happiest day of my life was calling Verizon to get rid of my landline! The money I save on telephone and my previous dial-up Internet service...and the fact that I NEVER have to pay for Internet access when traveling...more than pays the $60 a month for the Sprint service. Verizon and Comcast can go cut bait!!!

Re: Local bank or credit union experiences?

Darren: For years and years I only patronized local banks. Now they are all gone! I have found a great alternative, though: SunTrust. Each branch is like a local bank....they really care about their customers. I opened a business account in Alexandria when I had several clients in that area. Then I moved back to Westminster fulltime and transferred my account here. I found the same great personal service I had in Alexandria. SunTrust does not have lots of hidden or punitive fees, and a GREAT BONUS in this area::::They are in the SAFEWAY and you can do business there until 7 PM every evening and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (I don't mean an ATM...I mean a BRANCH...with REAL PEOPLE!!!!). I have recommended them to several people who have all been very pleased with their service. I can't recommend them highly enough!
