I definitely agree with you on that. Their coverage is lame, and they've completely missed the boat on social media and blogging. Their blogs are not updated regularly and are poorly written. But, the Star wasn't the only lame site on the right nav :)

This is totally off-topic, but wanted to point out this article from Pat Forde on ESPN.com. He highlights how his top 10 programs historically all had peaks and valleys during the last decade. After reading some of the valleys programs like UNC and OSU had and then how quickly they were able to turn things around, it just made me feel real positive about IU and CTC.

UCLA had a 19 loss season and within 3 years went to 3 straight Final Fours. UNC had a 20 loss season and three years later won the National title. OSU sat out the '05 tourney because of violations and 2 years later was in the championship game. IU just needs a recruit or two to break our way and we'll be back in the national spotlight before we know it. It can be done!

Sorry BGleas for always leaving Hulls out. I only saw him last week for the 1st time and while he looked a bit challenged on D I could see he works hard at it and the TO situation with him is far better than I thought. I used to think I would always want either Rivers or Dumes on the floor with him but now I am changing my tune

Agree with you on Rivers again Jerry, and would add Hulls to that too. Just by having better point guard play IU can dramatically change the point differential stat. By cutting turnovers, making a higher percentage of free throws and running a more clean offense, those numbers should change. And that doesn't even account for just playing better defense.

That's why I'd propose an alternate uni, not changing the regular home/away. Is it really that big of a deal if they wore an alternate road jersey with a little black trim a few times a year? Especially if the perception is it helps bring the program to the future. Wins are the important thing, right?

I'm a hard-liner I guess when it comes to the unis: no way. keep them the way they are. it's part of the deal. it represents iu in a unique way. getting kendrick would be huge. i'm not sure if we have a shot at teague or not. he might be a darkhorse for us in the end. if he wanted to go to l'ville, he'd have done it by now, right? unless he got spooked by the rumors about pitino-to-the-nba, rick's little extortion case, the top assistant (& recruiter) leaving for another job, & the arrest of two players. if we don't ger irving, we don't get selby, we might go all in for teague.

I'm with you Kelin on the uni's. I think if you make it an alternate that only gets worn a few times a year, instead of changing the main uni's, maybe that's how you get around offending some of the traditionalists.

So many ways he could have handled this differently. Not even willing to discuss IU on the air ? Paaaleeeze......... give me a break. Agreed, if one of his players would have acted like this he would have been all over them............and publicly at that. Time to move on and let it go. It is solely up to Bob now if anything else is done. Also agree that this does not reflect well on his former players. It was Bob who liked to tell players when he was recruiting them " give me 4 years and I'll give you the rest of my life". Note to Bob: Past time to give.

I don't have a problem with Knight not being ready to come back, I'm sure he's still very hurt and maybe he still needs a few more years of separation.

My issue is with the way he's handling it in the public. I think it's a disgrace to himself and his former players. He would have destroyed his players for acting like this. Having Vitale announce he's not coming? What a joke. Refusing to discuss IU's current team on the air is ridiculous too.

If he had any interest at all in ever coming back to IU, he would have simply issued a release saying he appreciates the honor, and admires Glass and Crean, but will have to decline the invitation to attend because he still needs time.

B - I really think this is a great approach. Build a foundation and find what works for you, then move on to other platforms. If you jump into too many at once, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.

I agree Amy, great points! At my company we took the slow and steady approach with our social media efforts. We didn't add bells and whistles to our Facebook Page, or even promote it at first.

We simply let the community pretty much build itself, then after allowing that to happen, we began promoting the page and adding features, while keeping true to the format the customers had built.

I've always felt that Bawa is a wild card that could drastically change the rebuilding process if he develops, especially if we lose out on some of the 5* guys we're in on. If by his junior year, Bawa can develop into a legitimate starter, then IU has the big man we're all looking for.

If this happens (it's a big if) then adding guys like Zeller or the other bigs in 2011 really take us to the next level. If Bawa doesn't develop, then IU is almost depending on landing some of those 2011 bigs and hoping they make an immediate impact.

I don't think I made my point real clear here, but basically I think Bawa developing could not only speed up the rebuilding, but get it to a higher point much quicker.

This is my issue too. Sheehey looks like a great prospect and someone that would fit in great at IU, but what does he bring to the team that wouldn't be covered by all the wings IU already has on the roster and committed in future classes?

Everyone listen carefully...People are not questioning this offer because the kid isn't a 5-star!!

It's a combination of scholarship crunch and the fact that Sheehey's skill set seems redundant compared to what is already on the roster and have committed verbally in the next two years. His ranking does come into play because of the scholarship situation though, when we have people like Selby, Kendrick, Zeller, Christmas and Davis interested. Plus, those guys play positions of greater need.

That's why people are questioning this offer. It's not blindly shouting because he's not a 5-star player.

Maybe Alford is better off at a lower level conference. Unlike Tom Crean, Alford has never taken a team from a major conference to the Final Four. Most of his coaching accomplishments seem to be at Manchester, SW Missouri and New Mexico.

The objections aren't based solely on his rankings. The objection is that with limited scholarships remaining, we have plenty of similarly talented players at a similar ranking that play the same position already in the queue. What does this kid bring that some combination of Carlino, Ethrington, VO, Creek, VJIII and Williams don't already bring?

The general opinion is that we have bigger fish to fry (Zeller, Selby, Kendrick, Christmas, Davis) at positions that are more of a need (PG and PF/C).

So true Kelin. My high school team was black and red and the 2nd unit was always the red team in practice. My sophomore year the 2nd unit adopted the name the "Red Squad" and even had t-shirts made up. The mission of the "Red Squad" every practice was to be beat the 1st Team as bad as possible.

It became such a big thing at school that even the rest of student body knew about the Red Squad and would chant for them. Needless to say, we went 22-4 and won our league title.

Definitely agree with you on this Jerry. There's no reason IU can't have supremely talented teams and high character, good citizens that play hard. It's all about picking the right guys.
