Unless I missed the command somewhere, there is no option in Freeform to flip an object horizontally. For example, I picked a table and chair object , then picked another chair to create a simple setup. However I couldn’t flip the second chair to face the first chair at the table. Has anyone tried this and found the flip horizontal command?

Darned if I can find it, but there’s no way in Freeform to flip horizontally an object. For example, you place a table and chair object in the frame. Now try to put another chair facing the other chair. You can’t flip the chair to face the other. I could not find any way in any of the menus to do this

The creative attempt by Matt Gemmell in the Twitter photos above to use the iPad and Magic Keyboard as a an easel is interesting (and slightly awkward-looking) but the Brydge keyboards can already do that much more elegantly. Simply remove and rotate the iPad horizontally and re-insert it so the screen is facing away from the keyboard. Now you can fold the iPad backward from vertical to flat on the keyboard (the rear of the iPad would by laying on the keyboard). I think Brydge and Zagg call it “Presentation Mode.” I know, people seem to have great trepidation when it comes to removing and replacing an iPad from the Brydge keyboard because of the hinges. It is really not a difficult process and, sure, it takes an extra 10 seconds, maybe, to do this. The results, however, are much more utilitarian and functional. I’ve said elsewhere that for a few two or three-finger swipe gestures you get with the Magic Keyboard, you gain those features on the function key row you get with the Brydge keyboard. The Magic Keyboard is a beautiful design and I seriously thought about cancelling my Brydge pre-order but when I realized the function keys were gone from the Apple keyboard that was a dealbreaker. As mentioned above in the article, the calisthenics you need to do to control audio volume on the Magic Keyboard is silly.

FWIW, I have a PaperLike screen protector/surface on my Brydge Pro And it presents no problems mounting the iPd in the hinges. And regarding removing/inserting the iPad into the Brydge hinges, the process is smooth. Removal is just a firm pull of the iPad. Inserting the iPad works best when you align it with the hinges, close the ipad on to the keyboard and press it into place. It’s not an instantaneous pull-away as on the magic Keyboard but it’s easy and problem-free in my experience.

I guess it comes down to whether you frequently remove your iPad from the keyboard or just do it occasionally. The Magic Keyboard wins handily on speed-removal.

I think one big advantage the Brydge keyboards have is that you can remove the iPad then re-insert the top of the iPad Into the keyboard clips to use it to sketch without the keyboard. JMO/HTH, etc. 😉

Regarding seeing what apps are open: “There’s a minor workaround under Assistive Touch where you can create a custom three-finger tap to bring up the list of apps opened.” Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re trying to accomplish, can’t you just double-tap the home button on the keyboard to get to that list (then swipe left or right to navigate the apps)? I’m currently using the original Brydge Pro for my 11” iPad Pro and have the new one pre-ordered. I’ve been debating whether to return it in favor of going with the Apple Magic Keyboard and it’s full-featured trackpad, but the absence of the function key row on the Apple unit is biig drawback for me since I use them so often. So, overall, I guess I need to decide between no (very useful to me) function keys on the Apple keyboard, or the absence of a couple finger-swipes on the Brydge. As long as the Brydge Pro+ trackpad works smoothly and functionally, I may just keep that one,

As someone who had excitedly pre-ordered the keyboard I now believe I may be pre-disappointed. I sure hope these issues get addressed or I may be considering a return for refund. I’ll just stay with my current Brydge Pro and get a Magic Trackpad (I’m now using a Magic Mouse 2) with the keyboard.

Bought one for my Apple Watch 5 based on this article. It does not work. I had the watch on the charger for an hour (a couple times) and it did nothing. So I’ve returned it. Reviews on Amazon reflect similar experience s. So beware FWIW

The compass is very handy but as a regular user of topographic maps, I’d like to have the ability to change between various map data, specifically the UTM datum. But having the quick ability to determine your direction is great. Good job, Apple

That’s a great idea but so far I’ve been unable to replicate the process using a Microsoft Surface Arc Mouse, possibly because it doesn’t have separate mouse buttons. If I click Button 2 (basically the right-click side of the mouse surface) I get the “Open” menu. FWIW, YMMV, etc...

I have both Yoink and Copied. Copied is, by far, the most utilitarian clipboard manager. You copy something, CMD-Tab to Copied and it’s automatically pasted. CMD-Tab back to your previous app, copy again, switch to Copied and the second clipboard contents are pasted. You can drag the contents from Copied into an app to use them. Granted, the switching back and forth add a couple steps but it’s not a dealbreaker, IMO

I have a Zagg Slim Book keyboard that I originally got for an original iPad Air. I've since "shimmed" it with some black photographer's tape so that I can use it with my iPad Pro 9.7" I have the newest Zagg case for the Pro and it, too, is really nice and very versatile. It does have problems with the magnets used in the case that sometimes pull out. What I really love about the two is the ability to use them in video mode.

The question I have about the Brydge is whether you can flip the iPad and use it in video mode. Even the Clam Case can be folded into video mode. I really think the Brydge is a beautiful design but if it doesn't allow video mode it's a no-go for me. I've gotten used to taking notes using my Pencil and Notability and it's an outstanding combo. I also love to be able to read in an airplane without having to completely remove and stow the keyboard.

So if the Brydge can be used in video mode I'd buy one. I'm tempted to get one anyway - it'd be great to win one, for sure 👍 but otherwise I think the Brydge is a beautiful iPad accessory.

This is such a (theoretically) intuitive technique that Apple should be advertising like crazy! Instead it's one of the best "hidden gems" of iOS. Good job featuring this technique. For folks who generate .pdf files frequently, this streamlines the process elegantly and efficiently - and easily!

I have one of these for my 9.7" iPad Pro and love it. The review is spot-on. I must warn, however, the. 9 magnets in the keyboard base that hold the iPad can pull out if the glue fails (the really stiff hinge is my only real gripe with this unit). I had 4 magnets pull out and stick to the iPad cover and had a heck of a time putting them back in. Afterward I discovered the magnets are mounted in alternating polarity and match the 9 contained in the iPad cover. What I advise is taking a strip of electrical tape and placing it over the magnets in the keyboard base. The thickness of the tape is neglible but it will prevent the magnets from possibly pulling out when you remove the iPad - and cause you to exchange the keyboard (which I did easily at my local Best Buy) for a replacement. I'm with John - I put an Apple sticker on the back of mine also :-)

Boy is this article a bunch of nonsense. You'd think if Microsoft was doing so well it would at least show up on the chart you display. Heck, Hwawei even does better than Microsoft. Apple still hase nearly 25% of the tablet market share (as well as most of the profits) and Microsoft isn' even in the top 5. "The Surface is expected to see some daylight"? Gee that's optimistic and has Apple quaking. Nice bit of fake news, I'd say.

It's an interesting book review that probably saved me a few bucks. Instead think I'll look at Leander's "Ive" book or Andy Hertzfeld's book (I always liked Andy a lot anyway)
