Wow. Bless you for researching that preposterous scenario. We need more people who see this optimistic side.

We really shouldn't judge our quarterbacks based on their performances today. Riley and Longshore were coming in under difficult circumstances against perhaps the best defense in the country. For one to play the first half and the other to play the second could not have been easy.

Our bigger issues were at the line of scrimmage, and it cost us way more than Longshore or Riley's erratic throwing.

We'll have to see. Tedford is still a fairly young coach, so I think he's
capable of adapting to the situation and returning the Bears to a strong
position in the conference. It could happen this season, depending on how
quick he is to adjust.

Last place in Division I obviously. Everytime I move them up they let me down. DAMN THEM.

Looks like you were right on here London Bear. Even Cal's very effective
pass rush did not stop Tuitama from having a monster game up the middle. We
got beat on some big yardage plays in that awful 3rd quarter.

Yeah, A C is about right. He was a B during his first two quarters, and a D- in the third quarter. 2 for 12 is bad, but I have to note that Arizona was dropping seven into coverage on most of Longshore's passing downs, AND that the running game stagnated for that entire quarter too. I blame the offensive collapse more on the playcalling in the 3rd, which put Nate in an unenviable position where he had to pass and the defense knew he had to pass.

His Arizona State 2nd half was far worse last year.

In context these wins seem bigger, because of when and where they played them (Michigan in the Big House to open the season, even if they stink now; Air Force at Air Force, and Oregon State after they upset the #1 team and playing completely on adrenaline, especially considering Utah was playing on four days rest).

Heh, anyway, it sounds better the way I say it.

I agree with everything you say, but I'm not terribly high on Michigan State either (the Big Ten is very weak this year). My opinion of both teams will jump if they can win this weak. Right now there are too many flaws with both of them to rank them in the top 15.

Not really. SC had ten days after the Ohio State beatdown to buy into the hype that they were this unstoppable killing machine that would terrorize the Pac-10. Hasn't exactly gone according to plan.

Cal would go probably in the "above 30" somewhere, behind Wake Forest, UNC, and maybe Minnesota or TCU. The ASU victory was a good step and showed promising things, but I'd be more comfortable after a strong road victory.

Now I need an obligatory sign for Cal.

Yeah, that throw is getting a little wobblier than I remember it. Late in games the throw has a tendency to drift.

I'll have to attest it to Longshore shaking off rust after not playing four quarter for ten months and hope it's not a sign of things to come.

I'm not quite critical either, but if we really want to win the meat of our schedule, this conservative playcalling is going to kill us at some point. Not every Pac-10 team is just going to sit down and take their lumps. Someone with the right mindset can probably score a victory over the defense, and we'll have no idea how the offense will respond.

As suspected, it looks like much of the correlation has to do with how good the teams were at the time. A lot of these Cal teams were way inferior to the SEC teams they faced. It makes you wonder how much it matters in the end.
