We get angry because in a confrontation with a car, our very lives may be stake with the slightest mistake on anyone's part. Thus when a driver does something stupid, it's hard not to take it personally. Obviously, getting angry is dangerous and counterproductive, cyclists need to be responsible (and cage drivers too), and why can't we all just get along. BTW, another peeve of mine are motorists who go too far out of their way in passing me... so long as you keep close to the center line there should be plenty of room for both of us; if you drive in the oncoming lane you're creating a hazard for everyone. And one last thing, so long as there is room, there is nothing wrong with a bicycle advancing to the front of a line of stopped traffic. It's a lot safer than sitting in the middle of the lane, IMO, but looking arrogant never helps I suppose.

Re: Researchers say southern NH is greedy, but avoids the other six deadly sins

That's kind of goofy, but I seem to recall similar results from a charitable giving survey? Usually it just has a sort of murky, organic but not entirely pleasant odor. Try paddling up it, and into the Nissitissit, and see if you don't notice the difference. Some rivers just smell (and taste) better than others, just as some lakes are more clear than others.
I understand, like most rivers it used to be much worse. Thank the Clean Water Act and tougher environmental regulations. I see heron routinely, and there have been osprey nesting there too (gone, last I looked). Beavers, of course, and I once saw a mink.
Salmon Brook smells absolutely vile; stand on the sidewalk where it flows over the dam and see if you can take it for more than a minute. I'm not sure what happens to that stream, it seems pretty clear as it flows into Nashua, but by the time it reaches Fields Grove it's disgusting.

Re: City man arrested, charged over break-in

We've updated the story to include that information.
