These guys (conservatives) always seem to follow the same mantra: If the regulation helps me personally, it's great, but if it's hurting me personally but might be helping my countrymen, it's awful.

Re: We back.

"China owns us and Mexico has become the 51st State,"

Sadly, this has been the case for some time now.

Re: An Open Letter To All Journalists

In what Universe do you live?

Re: An Open Letter To All Journalists

I'm not sure if this is right or not, but I am sad about losing Bush's magical public relations skill set. I'm sort of shocked they didn't rename that department at Texas A&M. As for Palin, I really hate her. She doesn't amuse me at all like Bush, perhaps because she represents the true evil of fundamentalism and extreme social conservatism. I dislike Bush for not being a good president, but at the end of the day he was just a guy on a joyride, Palin is the anti-Antichrist.

Re: Americans The Ugly Racists, a Song.

Well.. since the term "natural born citizen" was mentioned once and only once in the US Constitution it does create a gray area. However, no one made a stink about the white guy who was running against him not being a natural born citizen...

Section 8 of Article One of the United States Constitution confers on Congress the power "to establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization..." This power has been construed to include defining the characteristics of a "natural born citizen", as well as the conditions of "naturalization". But, according to the U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Manual, "the fact that someone is a natural born citizen pursuant to a statute does not necessarily imply that he or she is such a citizen for Constitutional
purposes."[3

Let's just say that it'd be pretty unlikely for the courts to act on your 5th point, since it would clearly be racially motivated. While the constitutionality of something may be in question, the interpretation of that event is usually made on precedent and future consequence.

My advice to you is that you seem pretty smart, use your brain to worry about something meaningful rather than trivial technicalities that amount to nothing more than a neocon pipe dream.

Re: Jesse Jackson, Jr.

Did you see Jesse Jackson Jr. on CNN today being interviewed? I truly think this family has to have a political curse lingering around its name. He did remind me of his father, squirming around his seat, trying to make light of a bad situation.

Re: Broadcasting Morality; News Media Turns Yellow, Again.

What do you think?

Re: Three Words, One Circus; Medicare Open Enrollment.

Indeed what you say is true. There are many problems with Medicare Part D; however, pre-part d seniors had to pay for the total cost of their drugs. Burdensome is a very accurate description.

Re: Three Words, One Circus; Medicare Open Enrollment.

Mikey,

I don't advocate for eliminating any cost sharing component, merely the severity of the cost sharing with relation to Medicare Part D. It is a convoluted system that usually requires looking into Medigap policies, etc., and I think there is much room for improvement. Perhaps studies have shown that the majority of seniors do not stop taking their meds despite the high cost, although i had read that it is a potential and not uncommon outcome. Regardless, it is quite burdensome.

Re: Three Words, One Circus; Medicare Open Enrollment.

Drew,

I tend to agree with the latter half of your comment, but I'm a little perplexed by the initial discussion. Do you advocate that seniors be given open/cost free access to all health services with no cost-sharing component? Studies have shown that seniors don't typically stop taking necessary medications under the current system, despite the cost being quite burdensome to them.

-M

Re: Rod Blagojevich, King of Illinois, re-asumes throne.

Alex, I think that's exactly the point. These guys don't think they'll ever get in trouble and if they do, well, they'll just get a little slap on the wrist. What can we do to change this mentality?
