This is my favorite team to watch right now. It just seems like every guy they trot out there (which is a bunch) is the same...o.k., except Cunningham, who is extra special. To me, though, the most impressive aspect of Nova is their defense. Man, do they get after the ball. This is the type of team that would kill IU or MSU (set plays), because they don't allow you to get into anything. I'm not sure if they can beat UNC, and I think it is a bad match-up for Nova. But, I really would like to see this team play for the title.

I totally agree. Purdue really controlled UCONN's half-court offense. How many 15-footers did Adrien miss? Thabeet is a "clean-up" guy"; not someone who consistently succeeds creating his own offense from the post. UCONN's strength is scoring in transition. MSU should have the athletes, physicality, and bench to limit that. But, MSU has offensive problems too (shooting...and the complete disappearing act of Morgan). This should be a great game.

Mike Davis won 23 games in year one (interim) and made the NCAA tourney...year two, the Hoosiers won 20, and played for a national title. I don't think anyone thought that Mike Davis was "way over his head" at that point. Year three, he won 20, and again got the Hoosiers into the NCAAs...after losing some NBA talent, and senior leadership.

In year 4, he only won 14, and only won 15 in year 5, missing the NCAA both seasons. Finally, despite getting the Hoosiers back to the NCAA's in year 6, Davis resigned.

So, Davis had four of six seasons in the NCAAs, yet was still "run out of town" after missing the NCAAs two consecutive seasons. If indeed Gillespie is being "run out of town" in Lexington, it would seem strikingly similar to what Davis endured in after the 2004-05, and into the 2005-2006 season. The only difference to me is that Davis, unlike Gillespie, had a (relatively) proven track record of achievement.

My point is that we (IU Fans) view b/ball exactly like UK fans, and exactly like fans at every other perennial powerhouse in any other major sport. We expect to win a vast majority of the time. We expect to get to, and excel in, post-season tournaments (or bowls), and we are relentless advocates for change at the first signs that our expectations are not being met.

There's no need to do any homework to realize that Gillespie isn't getting the job done at UK. If you are a UK fan, as I'm assume, you should just admit your frustration is with your underachieving b-ball team and not "the media". Quit crying on a rival fan blog; pretending this is the Lexington Herald-Leader.

At half, I was just thinking 17 is a lot of points...just play solid. Don't turn it over and hopefully take some good shots. I'm still not sure how it happened, but deep down I knew it was inevitable. Back to accepting moral victories for now.

what about the games he played...and won...for the Hoosiers? Bassett is a real good basketball player and he represented IU well on the floor. It's not Bassett's fault that the IU program is in shambles.

So count me as someone who is interested.

I'm not worried about how it finished. The announcers said, "that's how you earn a hard practice tomorrow" . Touche.

Cut down on some of that slop, and we destroy TCU...dare I say would compete with most of the Big10? They showed more tonight than any previous game. Unfortunately, the showed alot of the same...turnovers and inability to finish (and some undisciplined defene). Overall, it was fun to watch...love it.

To reiterate what seems to be a theme for the season, I'm looking for significant improvement/consistency with turnovers and free-throw shooting. Those are things that are primarily in their control and are fundamentals (which I would expect to be hammered on by Crean each day).

Overall, it wasn't terrible to watch ...at least we were treated to some great athleticism. :)

Overall, IU's play was sloppy, and they got their butts handed to them. But, ND is a talented, complete and most importantly, seasoned team. I would have liked us to keep it closer, but ND played a pretty solid game, so I wasn't shocked as they continued to build their lead throughout their game. Plus, Crean pulled the plug before Brey did, and the last five or six minutes were simply about getting some other guys on the floor. I like the move, because our guys played very hard and they will need another outstanding effort tomorrow to get that victory.

As the announcers mentioned time and again, Pritchard has some nice moves on the interior, but struggled to score. He was in position to put in well over 20 points. It will be enjoyable to watch him develop his touch.

After just three games, I think Dumes is our best player. He is the only one that really looks comfortable out there right now. Williams also looked really good.

Everyone else seemed tentative, and I thought we missed out on a number of scoring opportunities by not just pulling the trigger (obviously not talking about Roth here).

Good effort. Tough loss. I can't wait to see how they respond tomorrow. They gave alot of effort. I hope they don't come out flat.

Like everyone, it's hard for me to imagine IU being able to keep up with ND tonight. Still, it's an opportunity to compete against a seasoned, talented team. I think the team is going to learn alot tonight...so will we fans.

Since we're bringing MLB partisanship to the discussion...

As much as it may pain my Cub compadres, I hope the Sux go all the way. I love the idea of an all-Chicago Series (I'm not making predictions, just thinking of the scenario). Wouldn't it be great? Anyway, Go Sux!

But isn't this post-season really about the Cubs? This is a great team to root for...great pitching, defense, and offense; balanced and deep. Forget about the drought and the curse(s)...This IS the year!

I hope to we get the same excitement in relation to Crean & Crimson basketball...and soon!

I think you guys (ricbraun and B_MD) are spot-on. I can't wait for the development period to be over in a couple of years. But, for the time being, I'm resigned to seek pleasure in small victories beyond the W-L record.

I just don't see a team full of players who have never played with one another, and with few who have played a Big 10 game, being successful in terms of W-L (even close to .500).

Also, the bench is going to be soooo short next season. It's going to be a huge struggle. Hopefully, there will be some victories sprinkled around to give them confidence...especially the Illini at home.

I don't see Coach asking/forcing players to transfer (ala Nick Saban at Alabama...which is a creepy story if you're in the mood). He seems like a guy who wants to win the right way, based on his rhetoric and also his record at Marquette. As a fan that would like to be proud that IU is back on the "high road", I would not approve of such tactics.

I think the scholarship pinch is just going to be part of the "cost of business" with KS. It sucks, but IU should honor its commitment to its athletes (to the extent that the athletes reciprocate).

It sounds like picking up Van Tresse as a walk-on would be pretty sweet. But, if there is no room for him here, he'd be a fool to pass up ND. They are doing really well under Mike Brey, and that diploma is priceless.

Well said.

This loss will hurt the development of this team, especially the development of the bigs. Taber also has a pretty solid game. Yes, he's probably not a double-double guy or a freakish athlete, but he works hard and makes good decisions.

That said, 10 weeks from now is just Nov. 5., which is just the start of the exhibition season. So, get well soon Kyle...we need you.

Along with the others, you have my appreciation and thanks for compiling the list. It was interesting to take a brief look at some of the players of the more distant past, as well as those past players with whom I was familiar.

Certainly, it's difficult to "rank" those players because of era, team, coaching, and individual strength differences. I was just happy to be reminded of a little "glory of old IU" given the fact that its summer and what with the disaster that was 2007-08.

Yeah, I'd say he's been exposed to some good coaching over his life. That's A+ liniage.

I also like TC talking about his energy. We're going to need alot of energy from the few players we have next season. I wonder if McLoed will be suiting up for practices and banging with the big guys?
