If Michael Owen goes down for another lengthy injury, I could easily see some changes in the works.

Re: Premiership Preview–13. Their midfield additions will be the key to their success, as both Tainio and Malbranque are workhorses.

Re: Spurs Update: Highlights

Agreed, they look good and they are giving this american Yiddo a lot of confidence going into the season. Ramos said right when he took the job that he wanted the squad to play with 'panache,' and they certainly seem to be playing some sexy football at the moment.

I am more worried about lack of depth at striker, one more capable striker is needed, but I would love to see Tomas Pekhart get some minutes as he looks like the next big thing to come out of our academy.

Re: Spurs Update: Highlights

Ah, remember Arshavin hasn't signed yet and it looks less likely as time goes on. Santos does show promise, but thats still only two attacking players (three if Berbatov stays), spurs need guys on the bench to fill in for UEFA cup duty. Last year we had four quality options, this year not so much and I hope that changes quickly.

I see your point about the back line though, Dawson is a capable fill-in, but apparently only when paired with King, and the only other true CB - Gardner, is gone on loan.

Re: Arsenal Outclass Real Madrid in Emirates Cup

I dont see anything about spurs in Sam's post...

Re: Spurs Update: Highlights

^No one is arguing except the gooners here...I dont see anything being said about Spurs being better than Arsenal, so I dont know where you guys come in with this stuff...

Re: Spurs Update: Highlights

Karthik, interesting article on soccernet.com today...sounds like the both of us were right.

"Nonetheless, there is a risk of a shortage of personnel in two key positions, in attack - where an injury to Bent would be problematic - and at centre-back, where Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate are prone to lengthy absences. If his defensive ability starts to slide, then he has nothing left to offer since we all know he couldnt bury the ball in an open net if his life depended on it (again, see: Carling Cup final).

I agree with the lineup you proposed, but would sub Jenas for Zokora. Also, look for Benoit Assou-Ekotto to get some quality time.

Either way, it should be a very exciting season for Spurs and im looking forward to the game next saturday.

Re: Premiership Preview–6. I feel bad for Citeh fans, but Thaksin had this coming to him and I had a strong feeling that they would crash and burn at some point during this season. Owner is an international fugitive, said Owner's wife is due for 3-year jail term, Owner goes behind manager's back to sell two top players, and said manager considers leaving before getting one league match under his belt with Citeh. Yikes.

After reading this -> http://www.oleole.com/blogs/harryhotspur/posts/... it is clear that things are in a sharp downturn.

Why the hell did they sell to this guy? I thought Spurs' board was dumb, but they really raised the bar.

Re: Are Manchester City About To Go Into Meltdown?

Hmm, not sure why that link doesnt work, but heres the meat of the quote listed in that post. From Harry Hotspur post:

"When Spurs first made contact, it was Shinawatra's people that agreed a fee with Spurs and told Corluka he was free to leave. They did that without Mark Hughes' knowledge or consent...
Behind the scenes a real row started between Hughes and certain elements of the board; Hughes furious that they had gone behind his back to sell Corluka to Spurs, and the board enraged that Hughes had effectively recalled him from London for the Celtic game.

Spurs agreed the final details for the transfer with City yesterday morning, and Corluka put pen to paper on his player registration.

Then City's people accepted the offer from Sunderland for Stephen Ireland, and Hughes went properly mental. Twice in 48 hours he felt he was having players he wanted sold from under him. In a rage, it was Hughes who called Ireland and told him he was expected to report to the CoMS to report for the Milan game. Hughes putting him on for a couple of minutes was a big statement on his part.

Here comes the really interesting part.

Hughes last night told Cook he was through with City and wants out, the sale of Corluka and Ireland being the straw that broke the camel's back. He said if the Corluka deal went through particularly, he would be on his way out of City too.

At that point City have tried to derail the Corluka and Ireland deals."

and so on... I guess we will see what happens in the coming days.

Re: Are Manchester City About To Go Into Meltdown?

Haha, technically its wasnt HH himself, it was a quote of a secondary source which he himself was quoting. In MLB you can argue certain things in certain ways, but if you come out and argue balls and strikes, you WILL be tossed, its just the way it is and everyone knows and accepts it.

It needs to be that way in football, if six players surround the ref and scream in his ear for ten minutes, cards should be flying left and right. It needs to be understood that there is a line, and that line will hopefully be defined early on this season.

After a couple of early-season red cards we might see players start to relax.

Re: Chelsea Unusually Stylish on Scolari’s Debut

Chelsea scare me...ManU should be very, very afraid.

Re: CONCACAF Qualifying: EPL Impact

The only thing woeful about that USA game was the commentary. 'Pool dominated the game in every aspect of the game until that Carragher OG, but thats what made it such a great game to watch.

Now that they have Uncle Mo on their side, it'll be interesting to see how Spurs' form progresses as the get into an easier part of their schedule.

Re: 10 Reasons Why This Premier League Season Is The Best Yet

Look where the ball is though...its looks far away enough that it makes me think that Delap is just over-steping the line due to his momentum after making a legal throw

Re: Which Premier League Clubs Will Get Relegated This Season?

Exactly. I generally play left wing but spend a lot of time at RW and both outside backs. Not really flashy, just get by with speed, quick cuts and quick diagonal balls.

I think I was a bit more of a bruiser in the back than O'hara is though ; )

Re: What if the Premier League was American?

To be fair, Spurs are the best team in the EPL right now based on recent form...

Re: What if the Premier League was American?

Most of these seemed like a very loose like-for-like comparison, but I actually saw a lot of logic to the Pompey in San Diego idea.

Re: What if the Premier League was American?

Well, no. Form = results = points, this has nothing to do with rankings, its a simple points system. Arsenal didnt have the most points, so they werent the best team.

Anyways, you missed my point completely. Over the past 3 weeks or so, Spurs have had the best run of any team in the league - unbeaten in 6 matches, including TWO wins over Liverpool and managing to bang in 4 goals against Arsenal.

Re: Why Americans Don’t Get Soccer

^ Ha!

Re: Why Americans Don’t Get Soccer

Interesting post - makes perfect sense.

What I think a lot of people are missing is that football is actually hugely popular here as a youth sport (especially here in Wisconsin), so the disconnect is not within the youth systems, but rather with a professional league that has yet to fully develop.

The southern half of the States has the latin/Mexican influence that keeps soccer popular, whereas here in the midwest, the largely German/European heritage has rooted soccer pretty firmly. Now if we just could get the MLS to sprout out to more cities and get more games on national TV, it would only be a matter of time (and good marketing).

Re: HD Coming To Fox Soccer Channel

Id rather they make the channels more available before they worry about HD broadcasts...

Re: Poll: Where Will Roy Keane Go Next?

Im not so sure anyone in the PL will want him, especially considering the unemployed managers that are also out in the market.

I see him landing with a Championship side like QPR...

Re: Which Premier League Clubs Are Punching Above Their Weight?

Id have to agree here. That seems like a hard sell to me. It is an interesting thing to think about, considering that a lot of the top teams do seem to struggle in unison. But as a person who has played competitive football through college, I dont really buy that watching the other scorelines has that big of a psychological effect. Sure, everyone gets some pre-game jitters, but once the whistle blows all you are thinking about is getting a good first touch/first pass and getting a hard first tackle.

Re: West Ham Should Fear The Worst

Really? It is a bit puzzling how 8inches of snow can cripple a city, but for an area that doesn't have 1.) A large snow-plow fleet, or 2.) Anywhere to plow said snow, you can see why this is a bigger deal for them than 8" would be for me here in Wisconsin.
