Quite bizarre when you consider I could nip down to ASDA (Walmart) right now and buy a bottle for less than £20.
It's over-rated though.

Re: …It’s TGI Friday: The World’s Geekiest Crossword Puzzle?

Thank uou, once again :)

But, ummm, I'm not a guy *lol*

Re: …It’s TGI Friday: The World’s Geekiest Crossword Puzzle?

That's ok :) Thought it might have been a give-away signing my emails with my real name, but no offence or anything taken!

That's the beauty of the Internets ;)

Re: …The Gumball 3000 is coming?

Oh hell yeah. Altough you don't have copyright/ownership of the image, you do have it over yiour words, and that's *your* artistic copyright. I would be livid if someone stole my writing (hence why I put it in Friends only blogs and stuff because at least then I can track what's going on) but the problem is on the Internet, nothing is safe. I guess you have to accept there are some pretty unscruplous people in the world who will happily steal other's work because they're just not xclever enough or are too lazy to do it themselves.
There isn't much you can realistically do about it (I don't know whether you can contact the site etc, or if it's even worth it) but you could always edit any future posts to say 'this has been stolen' if it happens again. Oh, and you could come up with a few false stories just to see if the theives are stupid enough to not do their research as well ;)

Re: …Coment Charity continues?

Currently using a laptop for portability needs, but have a knackered old PC sitting upstairs complete with Windows *spits*.
Have briefly dallied with Linux but I'm too lazy to learn how to make it work properly and a lot of open source software is decidely awful to use (GIMP for example makes Adobe look *nice* Now that's a real 'achievement'!)
I'm currently selling everything I own on eBay to raise funds for a Mac book :)

Re: …You should be twittering? at Didnt You Hear…

Oh God, not another Web 2.0 phenomenon. I've worked as a teacher and seen kids who can type faster than I can (and I can type pretty damn fast) but can hardly write legibly - can I go out on a limb and suggest that maybe all this time spent in front of the shiny box 'socialising' isn't actually of benefit. Sure, it means we get to meet all manner of interesting people: if it weren't for reading blogs I wouldn't have come accross DYH after all, but I'm also getting cagey about how much and where I put my 'details' on the 'Net as well.

Gome are the 'halycon' days of IRC chat and MSN Profiles... I'm now just waiting for the intergral USB hub that connects directly into my sinapses and instantly downloads my thoughts to screen. ;)

Yes, I'm a cynic, so sue me.

Re: …Google wants you to personalize?

The day when we just plug directly into our computer each morning is now one step closer.

I am still torn over whether this would be a marvellous and amazingly cool idea, or a science fiction notion gone terribly terribly wrong.
I'm having a problem getting Existenz and Matrix out of my mind - and you know, they don't end so well... ;)

Re: …Google wants you to personalize?

Seven years ago I wrote an essay at University debating the mind and the matrix and how the world seems content to stare through a window at everything - when we drive we have a windscreen, on the PC there is the monitor, and in our house we have our windows keeping out the wind and cold. While these are great in the way of protection, they also stop us from getting close to the action and living it. Every new technological advance brings us a step away from actually communicating face-to-face with our peers, and online we can hide who we really are.
It's a concept I find fascinating as I too have my online persona and 'real life' one, but never the twain shall meet pretty much! The Internet allows us to reach out and see new places and people without ever explosing us to the danger that lurks underneath.
Oh you know, I could rant and debate this further but for all it being 'cool', I'm not sure I like the rise of the machines.
Just. got. to. prise. myself. off.
