Oh yeah, they certainly do.

"Once at the port of entry you will find that many of the procedures remain unchanged and are familiar to you. For example, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer still reviews your travel documents, such as a visa and passport. The officer still asks you questions about your stay in the U.S.
What’s new under US-VISIT is that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer now uses the inkless, digital fingerscanner to capture two of your fingerscans. You first place your left index finger and then your right index finger on the scanner. The officer also takes your digital photograph. These procedures add only seconds to the overall processing time.
Beginning November 29, 2007, Homeland Security will replace the two-fingerprint scanners with new 10-fingerprint scanners, starting with Washington Dulles International Airport"
Now its up to all fingers, sure makes you feel welcome.

in What’s your favorite open source product? on Open Sesame
Its free software (its a GNU project) you won't see the words open source as thats not a term free software proponents use.
" Where do I get it?
Most (if not all) Linux distributions will support GIMP through their package management systems and may even come with GIMP preinstalled. You can follow links to Linux and UNIX, Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X for the latest binaries. Of course, this is free software so the source code is available to, along with instruction on how to compile it."
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html <-- for what is meant by free software.
Its licensed under the GPL

No reason why not, just have to come up with a nice easy syntax for the search. And yep anything can be a link.
I hope to do some more work on the bot in the near future.

If you have to go ask a librarian each time you want to use the catalogue search ... your catalogue search is utterly broken.

in Intro to Koha Zoom on What I Learned Today...
Heya
Just to add to the history, It wasnt that HLT couldn't afford one of the proprietary solutions. It was that none of the vendors had read the RFP. The solution had to work over phone lines (phone lines that got interference from electric fences). All of the proposed solutions needed way more bandwidth than was possible. HLT even if they wanted, simply couldnt get ISDN, let alone ADSL.
IE the solutions were physically impossible (or highly infeasible) to implement.
Along came Koha. :)

Cant get much more open than open source and open standards. Did anyone ask Talis if they were using either? Or publishing either? :)
