in OhGizmo! » Archive » We All Knew This Day Would Come - RIP Joox.net on OhGizmo!
No need to be too sad... I'm sure the creators of joox and others will come up with new sites that stream divx quality videos. I took a look at the new podnix.com website and even though it is a little disorganized, you may like what you find.

By the way, if you don't have the money to buy the dvd's of the TV shows or movies you watch on these sites then it's not taking any money out of anyone's hands. I know I wouldn't go out there and buy a 70$ season of say, 24, to watch - i just can't afford it. I don't see why networks aren't realizing this more and taking the opportunity to tailor commercial advertising to the profile of the viewer (as is possible over the web).

Joox is down temporarily. It hasn't been shut down - it is having some problems with servers. See the following conversations -

in Google wants to do for TV what it did for the Web on last100
Finally. I can't believe how much hesitation there's been from the big networks to streaming TV shows online - it's the perfect way to add viewer-specific advertising. You can even keep track of viewership and ratings easier than with cable TV. There must be dozens of 'pros' to it.
I know I spend an inordinate amount of time surfing websites like Peekvid, alluc.org, tv-links.co.uk, sidereel.com for my favorite TV shows but since content is always being taken down by the host websites the links are notoriously inconsistent (I've been cataloguing the current best sites for viewing popular TV shows at http://www.mymindwanders.com/blog/?cat=13 ).
It's time for networks to get with the program and perhaps Google will be the final push they need.

in Democracy Player is dead, long live Miro on last100
Hey thanks for the review. I just tried out Miro and am really impressed. I, too, am disappointed with the lack of ability to stream videos from the searchable sites, however. Is there any information out there on why they don't do that? Possibly a copyright issue?
Cheers
