in My Favorite Task Manager Jbak Taskman Gets Updated To 1.0 on The Nokia N82 Blog
I have an E71 and I settled for Best Taskman. Using Magick Key I reassigned my dictaphone key so that I can use it to get the "alt-tab" fonctionnality offered by Taskman. I can switch between opened apps with a (short) press of a button (and even launch apps the same way) and it's better than Jbak because the UI is not UGLY.
That's why I couldn't stand Jbak: it's ugly even when you set it to use the default theme appearance. The app UI looks like bits of apps quick-and-dirty patched together.

in Nokia E71 - The Lowdon on Symbian in Motion
I dropped my shiny new E71 too (actually the holster fell off the belt clip by itself, and landed on the concrete :-( ). Now it got small dents on the bottom right mettalic part and release button. Only God knows how pissed off I feel every time I look at it.... :-(

in T9nav, a New SkyQuiKey Competitor on Symbian in Motion
I have tested both, conclusion ? The anemic processor and RAM on pre-FP1 devices like my E50 don't allow me to be happy with these kind of apps.

I'm looking forward to an E71: with all the hardware shortkeys and contacts software improvements, I hope I won't need these kind of app.
Plus I don't like the way the interface for showing results looks messed up. They better implement an option to choose what you want to be indexed and what you don't.

I don't know if it's only me, but I'm starting to get fed up with all these apps being in "beta stage" forever.
Last one is Adaptxt: it's taking them so long that I'm now simply going to buy a full QWERTY E71 with built-in predictive input and 'spellchecker'.
Are they aware that the guys who buy mobile software are the same who buy new hardware when available ? Perhaps they are waiting for Nokia to roll E71 enhancements to all their future devices....

Oh well, just a rant....

in The Business of Leaks on Symbian in Motion
For the particular case of the E71, I for one think that all the leaks were 'necessary'. Eseries products are not marketed enough. I'm leaving in Europe, and if it wasn't for the leaks I would probably have bought an HTC product sometime at the beginning of the year because Nokia's QWERTY devices lineup was not satisfactory by that time. I own an E50 and the E61i happened to run on the same slow hardware & software platform that was the cause of my need to buy a speedier QWERTY device. I held up a wait for the E71 because I knew the new platform use in this one (new processor + S60 FP1) was really fast, and candybar qwerty phones are pretty rare (and the best of them are all WinMo deivces...which I hate).

Leaks may be cause problems to Nokia when taking into the cmpetition into account, but I think it is really necessary and profitable to Nokia as long as the consumer is concerned, since Nokia'a marketing departement seems to suck big time. Here in France I see 4 to 5 tv ad for Samsung products when Nokia is airing only one, and for it's latest Nseries flagship only anyway (never saw an E61/i or E50 or E51 or 6120...,or anything like that, tv ad, the last ad I saw was N95 8GB and N95 classic before that).

They really need to rethink their marketing department, until then, they should just be grateful to the 'leaking blogs': they are doing a part of Nokia's job to advertise Nokia's products.
Even now, without the necessary marketing, potential E71 buyers will just end up buying a BlackBerry Bold of HTC Diamond Pro because these one will have the necessary coverage to let people know they are available on the market.
No talking shit here, better wake up Nokia....

Peace.

in Psiloc Connect: The App We’ve All Been Waiting For on Symbian in Motion
I too think that UIQ3 is a much more balanced OS than S60. All the basics are covered (no shitty built in alarm clock, Timer & Stopwatch are built in, better filemanager, better task manager...), but UIQ seems to fell short on installable application library... Plus the UIQ3 phones are really crap ergonomy-wise (compared to S60 phones or even UIQ2 phones)...

I am not using Connect for the moment, I'm waiting the annoucement of E71 and if dissappointed I will fall back to E51 to replace my E50...
By the way, what is that thing about E50 handling DRM better than newer phones ?? Can someone give some explanations, details ?

in Nokia N95 8GB Software v20.0.016 is On The Way | SymbianV3.com on SymbianV3.Com
I have seriously been PISSED OFF by Nokia's attitude for some time now !!
I have bought an E-Series device a year ago, and I have noticed that N-Series are getting FAR MORE support despite the fact that Nokia is marketing E-Series as "business" device. They are fooling people into buying so-called business devices even though they know they will drop these devices support about a year later !!
Stop making fools of us, and put your money where you mouth is, or just change that NONSENSE, FAKE A.. marketing strategy !!

in Say Hello to the New Version of Adaptxt! on Symbian in Motion
Yeah, yeah, I have been waiting for this one and I must say I'm a bit disappointed... Not only are the Keypoint guys VERY late, but the beta is only available in english !! Isn't it a predictive input software ? How are we supposed to try it if it isn't available in the language you write ?
I hope they won't wait another 4 (!!) months before releasing french and other dictionnaries...

in Are N95 NAM Owners Waiting for Godot? on Symbian in Motion
Speaking about S60 speed and memory improvement for some "gray-haired" devices, have you got any info on Nokia E50 ??
It's my only device at the moment, I'm waiting for the E71 but I would like to see some serious improvement for this one since even the N73 is getting some love from Nokia.
I would be really pissed if the E50 has been already phased out, since there are so many room for improvement left, plus it's an E-Series, doesn't that means better support in the first place ?
Any info on E50 would be really welcome...

in NStarter by Nomiel on Symbian in Motion
I have uninstalled it, then install on phone memory and rebooted. Despite the fact that notifications are set to "on", they do not appear. I think Nokia has indeed changed something in the last firmware that broke this feature.
Well, as I said before, I should be able to live without it. Thanks for helping nonetheless everybody, SiMo rules :-)

in NStarter by Nomiel on Symbian in Motion
That's the problem in fact: toggling this menu do not work anymore: it was as if something was broken since the last firmware...

in NStarter by Nomiel on Symbian in Motion
Am I the only experiencing notification problems ?
Since the last firmware upgrade on my E50, Nstarter no longer shows notifications when launching apps :-(

I'm using this software to have shortcuts for bluetooth, french/english language switching and reboot; Phone shortcuts by Tektronic has an ugly UI (like all their softwares by the way) and isn't as well thought as Nstarter (plus it isn't freeware), so it's not an option for me...

I think I could live without the notifications, but I would like to know if the bug was introduced by the firmware update or if it's something on my side...

I would have used a "metal series" theme with the E51 if only I have had one :-) The serie comes in tree color, each one would had fit each corresponding E51 color...

in Adaptxt by Keypoint Technologies on Symbian in Motion
They just replied this morning, and what a dissapointing reply: the french and othe languages won't be available until a few MONTHS !!

C'mon guys, you've just screwed my morning up...

in Adaptxt by Keypoint Technologies on Symbian in Motion
I contacted the Keypoint guys about the other languages but they are not responding.
Zach, did you get a trial version with French dictionnary inside ? If yes, could you post a link here please ? I fear the file I need won't be available before the trial period ends, and I would be unable to test it before buying...

in Adaptxt by Keypoint Technologies on Symbian in Motion
I have downloaded the trial version, but as opposed at your note Zach, the app only comes with English dictionnary, no other language is available at the moment :-(.

And there's one ANNOYING BUG with this initial version: it doesn't work well with dark themes. Try opening the symbols window while writina a message (with the * key) and you'll see that the symbols are black on a dark background: they are just unreadable. I notice this with Psiloc Reflect Theme, don't know if the bug s present with all dark themes.

Can you tell the guys at Keypoint to pay attention to this bug Zach ?
At this point, no French dictionnary plus that bug, the app is just no use for me...:-(

in Adaptxt by Keypoint Technologies on Symbian in Motion
Holly sh*t, that's one app I'm going to buy right away.
I hope the bugs will be ironed out by release time and they'll choose better icons: the 'Options' screen icons are pretty ugly at the moment, and do not match with Nokia's default icons, kinda breaking UI consistency IMHO....

in NStarter by Nomiel on Symbian in Motion
Is the developpment of Nstarter still going on or is it stalled ?
Would be a pity if there's no new version coming, since there will be more and more Nokia phone without 'Pen' (edit) key and there seems to be some bugs too (notifications do not display anymore since firmware upgrade on E50).

in Auto Profiles by Symbian Guru on Symbian in Motion
I understand and respect your choice, as always. In fact I'm glad you're here to give impressions of apps you try. You made me actually re-think about my choice of using BestProfiles (that one I bought after reading a review here ;-)).
I'm now using Handy Profiles, it feels less "overkill", and I can cope with the few features I left behind in the transition.
You're on AutoProfiles and that's okay; the more choice, the better...and I'm not even thinking about the "the more choice, the more SiMo reviews" cause to effect relation :-D

Long life to SiMo, keep it up Zach !

in Auto Profiles by Symbian Guru on Symbian in Motion
Not convince by this one... Far too basic I think. One feature I really like in BestProfiles is all "one time timed activation" menu. I mean you can activate at a certain time, or activate now for a certain amount of time. I looked at Epocware's Handy Profiles and you can only activate now for a certain time, and that's essentially what's keeping me from switching from BestProfiles.

But I reckon HandyProfiles is better integrated into the phone than BestProfiles seems to... Oh well, I will just give it another try and perphaps switch this time...
If only there was an in HandyProfile option to turn it off too...
