It isn't often I come across such an informative post and comments. This is a great post for things to think about as a person who is looking to launch a company and how important having a technical co-founder is. Or alternatively, an established company leader in avoiding making a bad technology leadership hire.

Re: Hiring a VP of Engineering or CTO For Non-Techie (First Time) Founders

I must say that this is a fantastic post. No shock it hasn't been done yet since we are creating the tendrils of the graph at a torrid pace with FB, blackberries, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, etc. Services are getting created faster than anyone could create social graph synergies between them. But here is my two cents:

- Let's trying getting a unified structure or hava a service come out than can knit my profile in one place in an effective way.
- Second point is regarding reward. Will there be a financial incentive to be the company that can knit the social graph together. How would it monetize. Plaxo, as an example, has really created an effective way for me to maintain updates on people within my social graphs contact information. But, they are now considered the also ran and the reward does not seem imminent.

Re: Snag’d A new Job!

Jeff Nolan »
Thanks! I appreciate the comments and as you know, always appreciated our discussions about how to bridge the two worlds. We have lived for the past few years together the challenges that Enterprise 2.0 faces and will clearly continue to face as companies try to bring added value in the form of advanced web concepts in behind the firewall. It will happen, I have no doubt.

On a personal note, I always admired how you served as Factiva and DJ's lead evangelist on the west coast. You were one of the one's I labeled "that got it" and you are also the one that got me blogging in fact. So thank you for that as well. I know you and I will be in touch online and off so thanks for the comment and talk soon! Best.

Re: Snag’d A new Job!

Raanan Bar-Cohen »
Thanks Raanan, I am excited as well. I too enjoyed our work together at DJ. Now, my harassing you with Wordpress questions will remain one on our lead interactions for a while. But I'm glad to know that the welcome kit is on the way. It is great to "see", "hear" and "read" your response. Eagerly awaiting the day you guys decide to come out of alpha. And I can imagine the scaling issues that you are dealing with if the scaling issues that Twitter has dealt with as of late. They seems to have made the transition to keep up with their traffic levels and I'm sure you/team will be able to as well.

I look forward to watching your strategy unfold. For some reason, I'm already envisioning the Seesmic API in full integration within Ning. Clearly, YouTubes API release may proove some competition in that space if they are truly trying to head into the API of video space and also being fine with other outfits like Ning privatizing on top of it, perhaps integrating with OpenSocial.

Thanks again, and I too look forward to continuing the conversation.

Re: A Seesmic Issue

Loic » Thanks. Imagine anyone who feels they were mis-represented or or mis-quoted, this could be a way for their PR agency or themselves to "right the wrong" so-to-speak. The element that makes this an unknown is whether or not people are going to think to go to Google News to go and add commentary. The second key question as to whether people are going to go Google to see if there are comments by news participants.

Re: Twitter finally gets its new round of funding led by Sabet and Bezos

Love twitter but $400M valuation (even on comps) seems way too high. I wonder if their stability issues had any effects on a downward draft for valuation than they would have otherwise seen if they weren't suffering from those issues? If they got pegged at $400M valuation, it would seem not.

Another note on that rumor, weren't they pegged at a $78M valuation after their $15M round with USV? I remember reading that somewhere as well.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - How to cut through the Noise?

So in this particular case, I cannot get too enthralled. That said, Gary is very busy so I didn't expect a response necessarily. Or perhaps I am simply in the Gary Vee twitter and email spam block list! :) That is always possible too!

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - You Can’t Please everyone……..Why not?
It has been...

Great video post Gary Vee. Completely agree that at some point many have lost the will or desire to try to please. Certain businesses have it in their brand and their DNA but many others you can see do it simply because it increases the rating on Get Satisfaction surveys. I'm sure this extends to the individual as well.

Always strike a balance between pleasing others and being yourself. But the effort is critical, that is for certain.

Re: WARNING: Do NOT load Quechup

Wow, I knew your blog was popular but I had no idea that you had 100 million readers that read your negative review of MSN Spaces then went and signed up anyway! I'm impressed :)

Thanks for the heads-up, unfortunately it only takes one of your friends that has your email address to not heed warnings and sign-up for you to get spammed. Hopefully, won't be getting too many.

GO GIANTS!

Re: Why FriendFeed won’t go mainstream (Part I)

I will admit that I haven't become a pervasive commenter on FF as of yet, I make some but not with reckless abandon. But one of the elements of Robert's post doesn't resonate with me and that is regarding commenting on blog posts in FF rather than on the blog. Loic mentioned this a few weeks ago as well. I'm not suggesting it doesn't happen BUT I do question why it does. Allow me to explain:

1. Robert posts a blog post.
2. A notification that there is a new blog post is posted on FriendFeed.
3. I click on the link in FriendFeed to read Robert's post
4. I DO NOT click back to FriendFeed to place an inline comment, I read the comments on Robert's blog and comment here just like I am right now.

So, the only time I comment inline on FF is when there are already comments. But even then, why comment inline when you haven't read the blog post yet?

Re: I’m a phone freak

Well to each his own on how many devices you carry (as long as you don't carry them on your belt!)

But the monthly charges must be suffocating in aggregate.

Re: Hiring a VP of Engineering or CTO For Non-Techie (First Time) Founders

I must say that this is a fantastic post.
