in Why it's time to break out of Twitter (Scripting News) on Scripting News
I've been on Twitter a year and I only have around 500 followers. Some are big names, most aren't. And, I don't really care. I enjoy reading what my core has to say, skim the rest and put it away for the night. I will not auto-follow because if it's someone who is spam-following, or just mass-following, why should their tweets block something that could potentially make me laugh or inform me? Twitter's been a lot of fun for me, but now that everyone's on board, I'm sure something new will be around to take it's place. Once upon a time SXSW was just a little indie Americana music festival and Bonnaroo invited a couple of jam bands to play.

in The Internet - a short-term fix on Todd Mundt
I've said for a long time that once there are Internet devices for cars, HD will be moot. You'll pay for service with the rest of your wireless and along with streaming music from whatever site you like, you can pull up maps and your E-mail. Streaming radio services (like FolkAlley.com) - that's the future.

in Are your listeners asking about iPhone streaming? on Todd Mundt
We've been recommending Nullriver as well, for both WKSU and Folk Alley. We actually developed our own Folk Alley app - but we're still in the Apple developer approval queue. I don't know that people have been begging for it, but especially for Folk Alley (which is only available as streaming media), it would be nice to have.

in Hello, I’m an unidentified person. So, having a problem? on Todd Mundt
I told my boss, "If I'm going to lose my job, I don't want to read about it in the NY Times before you've told me." As far as NPR goes, this seems to me like a repeat of the Bob Edwards debacle. People are going to react more strongly if they feel left out of the decision making process. This is public radio, we all own a piece of the pie. And, my personal (not endorsed by any media organization) opinion on the BPP is that if NPR is trying to establish a brand with younger listeners, they should have gone to college radio stations (not just university licensee member stations) and given the program away, or at a small charge, and then fundraised independently for the program online.

toddmundt Thanks for the comment! It would take a hell of a firing to get my name in the New York Times. :) Good thoughts on BPP...

in This NPR API is a BIG deal. on Todd Mundt
Todd--Were do the statistics of blog views and pub site views come from? I'm working on a project... Thanks!

toddmundt The number of public media site views per month is rough (if memory recalls, it's 2.6 times per month) and it comes from a report from a Public Media Metrics http://publicmediametrics.org/ presentation in Feb 08.

in Video: Disconnecting the Coax on Todd Mundt
I've been an OTA TV watcher since I decided to finish my thesis in 2000 (cable presented too many opportunities to watch bios of Whitesnake over and over). I just had a rooptop antenna installed and plugged in my digital converters and I couldn't be happier (well, if all of the stations were broadcasting in digital, I guess I could be happier). Until everyone is up and running, I have my 5" B&W in the kitchen (which is getting wired to the roof on Friday) to watch my analog shows. Ever since NBCU dumped iTunes, I have felt completely justified in watching Top Chef and Project Runway on YouTube.

toddmundt Thanks for the comment! Yes, it's nice to have YouTube! I've watched Top Chef in hotels before, where "broadband" access wouldn't allow for websurfing, much less a stream from Hulu. :)
