in PayPerPost rebrands and goes after social media starfish advertising on Scobleizer
Tanya : The name itself is too limiting. The name PayPerPost clearly described the business when we started but confines us long term. I am not saying PPP doesn't have a negative connotation for some bloggers, but that is not the driver behind this change. Were it the driver we would change PayPerPost.com to Izea.com and that is not the case. PayPerPost.com will continue to operate as it is under the IZEA umbrella.

in PayPerPost rebrands and goes after social media starfish advertising on Scobleizer
Robert,
With over 80,000 bloggers and 11,000 advertisers (including Fortune 500 companies) in our family changing the name of the parent company was a difficult decision. While we may not be loved by all A-Listers, I do feel we have a strong connection with the bloggers we serve. The name change may be hard for some of our long term supporters, but this is the right thing long term. PayPerPost.com will remain our flagship product, it just won't be the name of the parent organization.

The name change itself is by no means disruptive, however it does provide a framework that will allow us to innovate by offering new services that don't necessarily belong under the PayPerPost brand.

I do believe that when it launched PPP was a disruptor. I think our newest innovation (codenamed Argus) will achieve much of the same success when it is released to the public.

in PayPerPost forces disclosure on Scobleizer

Did Ted send you guys a gift?

He mentioned at ad:tech that he was sending a few certain bloggers a gift - he mentioned you by name actually.

Our PPP boxes still haven't come in : ( When they do we'll be sending out some stuff to people who have been vocal on both sides of the disclosure issue.

Thank you for acknowledging our effort Matthew. We have listened to all sides of the table over the past few months and believe that this is a step in the right direction.

"I still think PayPerPost is brilliant"

Something we both agree on! lol. I have a couple of advertisers that would pay several thousand dollars for a single post and honest review on this site. Let me know if you are interested.

Hey Sippin'.
We surely don't intend to turn off your account. Quite to the contrary, I love the feedback as it only helps us in the long run. As of today, we are two months old, bootstrapping it, and still have issues to iron out. I will be the first to admit that.

Please let me know how I can help you, and what I can do to make it better.

in Why I won’t use PayPerPost (and if I do, I will disclose) on Scobleizer
---
#29: Dmad, it’s obvious you have never thought about conflict of interest. The publisher that paid for my book wasn’t paying me to take a specific stance like “PayPerPost” will.
---

What gave you the impression that we are making bloggers take a specific stance. Bloggers choose what they want to write about Robert. Maybe if it was called "Microsoft PayPerPost" you would have actually used the system before you bashed it.

in Why I won’t use PayPerPost (and if I do, I will disclose) on Scobleizer
The practice of "reviewing" until you give it away is ridiculous. I gave away my laptop now …I'm reviewing a new laptop…whew, rough life. Guess what? You are in the top .0001% of bloggers out there that get a laptop much less anything else. Most bloggers are happy to earn enough for a cheese burger from AdSense. It's easy to give things away when they will surely be replaced by the next item you are "reviewing".

You make yourself feel better by giving things away, but you are no better than anyone else who accepts products or cash. You are simply rent-to-write.

The only reason you can even consider doing something like this is the fact that you don't need the money or the product. It's like celebrities getting $10k gift bags at award shows. Give the stuff to the people who need it least. They do the same thing, take a couple photos then give the product to mom because you just got another to replace it.

If you were to give the same offer to honestly review and keep a $1200 product the overwhelming majority of the blogosphere would do it. Hell, send me a Sonos. I will review it, I will be honest in my review and I won't have a problem at all sleeping at night.

I find it honorable that you give your products away, however you have to acknowledge that there is a huge difference between you and the rest of the world.

in The Devil and Daniel Blogger on Mathew's comments
Mathew,
This is exactly what I love about blogs and bloggers. They say what they feel, right or wrong. Shel is certainly entitled to his opinion, I think the devil is going a bit far, but hey, that's his opinion. Let's not forget he's got a book to sell about naked conversations in blogs.

He could never endorse this concept, he has to bash it, be has built his careers on his position towards blogging and I respect that. Shel would be buried if he was to give a thumbs up in any way for this. He has a passion for what he believes is right and that is a beautiful thing.

I agree with a lot of what Shel has to say on a variety of topics, however I do believe there is room for PayPerPost and I don't think he can be objective given his position. I hope we can still share some good eats and conversation at fire and ice : )

Most importantly bloggers and advertisers are signing up like crazy. We can hardly keep up with the content reviews. People see the opportunity here and over time we will perfect the model. I am not saying we have thought of everything, we have plenty of work to do, but we had to start somewhere.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. The slamming of me personally has been a bit shocking, it's nice to see there are some people that can take a few steps back and look at the big picture. I have been exposed to so many new and wonderful blogs following this topic around, it has been a great experience.
