Just think how many times and in how many places we've heard "Hallelujah" in recent years?

Re: Standing Athwart The Film Projector, Crying “Stop!”

Looking in NR's list of "Also-rans" I was shocked, shocked! to see "Amazing Grace" identified as a "conservative" movie. The presumption passeth all understanding. Next that rag will be celebrating "The Grapes of Wrath" as exemplifying the longstanding conservative compassion for the less fortunate in times of economic distress.

Re: Question of the Day

Songs I sang to my daughters: "Jamaica Farewell," "Puff," "Turn Around," "Red River Valley," and, for grins, "Little GTO."

Re: Brilliant Logic

Given the recent history of performance-enhancing drug use by top-level track & field athletes, it's natural that some degree of suspicion would be directed at the remarkable Usain Bolt -- and the fact that he's not an American has nothing to do with it. The ease with which he won both his races and the staggering margins of victory were bound to raise questions, but I think the current drug screening regime at the Olympics can probably be trusted.

Re: Sad Day

Widespread publicity about low wages and benefits is definitely hurting WalMart's image. A recently-leaked confidential briefing on benefits strategy, prepared for the board of directors' FY06 retreat, shows why low wages and benefits make sense. Statistically speaking, around the one year point a WalMart employee is about as productive as he/she will ever be. The productivity curve (measured in sales per labor hour) is flat, even tapering off a bit at the 4-5 year point. So what incentive is there for WalMart to discourage employee turnover?

Re: Some Thoughts About Confederate Veterans And Memory

Thanks for posting your remarks on Gen. Mahone. I was unaware of this controversy, but see it now as part of the much larger controversy over the "lost cause" mythology and Civil War historiography.
