Buzz, thanks for posting this. It *kind of* clarifies -- I'm still confused though (shocking) -- They want me to cancel my plan, pay the ECF, and get a new plan? Um, won't I lose my number, then? And, my current, fairly decent voice plan?

I'm still trying to figure out if my friend buys two phones on a new 3 year term, if I can use one of them on my plan with the new "promotional" data rate. The darn CSRs still have ZERO information -- I called this morning to get clarification, and they told me that I absolutely COULDN'T buy the phone unless I canceled my contract, lost my number (uh no) and started up a whole new contract.

ATTN ROGERS: This is NOT taking care of your customers... At all.

I'm taking one of the many 'trips of a lifetime' next May, on my honeymoon. We're going on a 14 night cruise on a brand new Celebrity ship to Northern Europe and Russia... I can't wait!

I'm in a similar boat -- I have printed copies of the photos. I'm not sure why I keep them, but I was also with him for 13 years, so that was a significant chunk of my life. But, I don't wistfully look at them, and it was my decision to end the marriage. Come to think of it, he didn't want them either. Hmmm... I think I'll do some purging.

If help in another way is preferable, please just let me know. As a kid, I remember some really, really tight Christmases that my parents had, and it was so disheartening for my brother and I. If I can help take that stress from another family, that would be really awesome.

Here's the thing, we're election-ed out. We've had too many polls to attend over the past 12 years... It's completely unnecessary, and a total waste of money. The whole exercise as far as Harper was concerned, was to unseat a very smart, yet totally uncharismatic guy... Dion. But, he didn't think ahead. He knew he was likely going to get another minority, and now Dion will lose his leadership -- And I really hope they choose better this time.

So, all Harper got out of this was a few more seats, and likely a far greater threat for future votes.

Oh, and a loss of $300 Million. That sickens me.

Ah, so true, Buzz.

The thing is, radio has to have a unique value proposition... Offer on-air, and online content the listener can't get anywhere else. It's difficult to determine what that is, especially when dealing with the old-school mentality that is behind radio programming/management.

Heh! Snow day... Not what it used to be. When I walked 5 miles to school. Uphill. Both ways. ;)

I avoided getting into the car today after I watched some dude lose control and plow into another car on Alberni. Granted, there was a bit of an incline, but that's just stupid. And, hey, why make things worse by adding to the driver stupidity out there when I'm perfectly capable of working at home.

Oh, and yesterday was the 11th anniversary of the 18 car pile up that kept me in and out of hospitals and specialists office for over 3 years. That might have something to do with it.

Good points, Buzz. I think you do something very differently than most broadcasters, though -- You extend your audience, and their attention span by default, to your online resource, where the conversation can go deeper, despite your target audience.

Most radio hosts don't go there -- either, they are too afraid to dive deeper, or they don't understand the technology and the marketing to get it done.

I think your show notes, and the fact that you discuss your online presence openly, provides the listeners with the means to get more information than the 15-30 seconds will allow.

One thing I might add here, is simply a hot topic "off-the-cuff" sidebar that allows live conversation to happen without the subject being as formatted as the blog entries.

It's really refreshing to have a Top 40 host interested enough to want to go deeper. Especially in a city full of interesting people who have opinions of their own.

Ya, I think a lot of people went through this. I did, too. I ordered 5 things that I saw a few days ago in their web-only ad, to get that stupid screen -- But not the queue one, i got the "sorry, we didn't expect this crowd one". Huh? Then BUY more servers. SHEESH.

I finally got the queue one at about 9pm, and waited until bloody... 11 or so. Crazy. That was the worst online experience ever! Almost wasn't worth it.

I bought / jailbroke and did some "other hacking" of my iPhone for use on the Rogers network only weeks ago. The upside is that I pay very little for data because of all the research I did, but the downside is that I now have to sell my phone in a hurry because I *know* the 3G phone is coming in June, and Rogers wouldn't be bringing in the iPhone without that service. It wouldn't make any sense.

Visual voicemail, here I come... And not worrying every month that Rogers might figure out what I've done. *sigh*

I totally agree with you, if you are an iphone user that won't be streaming from YouTube, or using Google Maps, or even watching tv via slingbox. These are all things I do... So 1 gb cap is kind of unreasonable. I'd prefer to pay double that and get true unlimited. I hate being reined in with my devices.

One thing to keep in mind is the Vision plans -- They use a HELLUVA lot of data with 2way video? Perhaps this type of plan-style will come about for specifically the iPhone usage too? Okay, perhaps it's wishful thinking...

I do know that Apple had a lot to say about how AT&T priced their data plans to ensure a solid adoption by an exclusive company in the states. I'm sure they will have some influence on the other 21 countries where they're rolling out exclusive iPhone offerings as well.

I'm done. OUT. FINISHED. I'm seriously happy to pay the ECF at this point. Screw them. Because they were jerks, and didn't let me keep my number when I wanted to give my plan to someone else, they lost out on a total of $7200 or so in revenue. Now that I see the new plans, I can EASILY recover the ECF with Bell or Telus -- They'd be happy to have a new client with the plans I choose, and I'll still save the ECF in the first year of ONE of the two service plans that Rogers will miss out on.

Who cares that I won't be playing with an iPhone. There's plenty of other devices coming out that will be clearly capable.

F-U Rogers. I'm so done.

Hey guys... I'm begging everyone to wait. Even just a few weeks? Rogers will have to change their data plans if we all do protest with our business.

Also, do you really want to be locked into a 3 year contract with new providers coming in next year, as well as some really cool new phones that are just around the corner as well? Did you know that if you change your data plan during those three years, there'll even be a $50 fee? So that means, if Rogers does come out with a $30 data plan, you'll still be gouged!

I wish they'd gotten some of my other points in the interview I did, but at least I had a voice!

The visual voicemail replaces the voicemail on the current plans. You also got the tax wrong, actually -- it's 1.12 for GST/PST in BC (GST is 5%)

But, seriously, who's gonna get this phone without call display, voicemail, and text messaging... That's like $20 isn't it?

Well, you've got it mostly right with Facebook and maybe one of your other 40-something comments made this point, but you can use Facebook two ways. There's a setting that limits easily your work contacts/friends from your friend/friends (who you don't mind seeing some debauchery) -- Simply click "limited profile" when adding/authorizing the friend, and choose what that limited profile looks like for everyone you have that setting for... Eliminating the concerns of work vs. friend relationships. Besides, the colleagues won't know what they're missing if you have all of them choked down.

Just my two cents worth... From someone who uses that feature frequently!
