WOW. It is so cool to see that I can relate to so many people now. I have had them for about 2 years now, and I'm 18. They used to not be as bad, but recently they are a lot worse, and painful. Very random; most of the time just one or two at a time, but at least 20-30 times a day. It is annoying when people are like... will you get a drink already? or the usual, " drinkin on the job" from my boss. ugh. I really wish we could find a diagnosis and a cure. I tried researching it, and found out that a lot of cancers have symptoms of hiccups. I wonder if I should be tested? I have been enduring a lot of 2nd hand smoke my entire life.. so there is a good chance I could have lung cancer. This is pretty terrifying, but it helps me to know that I'm not the only one out there with this.

Hi, I'm writing from Seattle, USA. I was wondering about the monastery's fortress walls. I'd read they were crumbling and in disrepair. Is this still true. And also, it looks like there are windows in the walls, or something resembling windows, are/were the monks rooms located in the walls or elsewhere? Are there openings or doorways in the walls anywhere? I think the buildings look stunning, and your photos are beautiful. I wish I could wander around the grounds in person. Thanks for any info. you can provide.

Neither McCain nor Clinton have the kind of presidential quality that people look for in a candidate. Obama has won over a lot of Republicans already, and Hillary has lost far more Democrats from her own party.
The polls and media are assuming that the public is stupid, and when you think that Bush was elected twice, well, maybe they have a point. However, even people I know who are not informed want to know the candidates position on withdrawing from Iraq.

McCain has already doomed his camp with the stuff about mortgages and 100 more years in Iraq.

My advice to Obama would be to ignore the Clinton attacks as much as possible, focus on the issues,

and debate and challenge McCain as much as possible.

It did occur to me that Clinton is staying in this race to raise money for herself. Do the candidates get to keep all the money they raise or does it go back to the donors if not used?

I first read about Barack Obama in a book called "Who's Afraid of a Large Black Man?". I then read Obama's first book, and I knew I wanted him to be our President. I remember seeing the first headlines when he won his first primary, and my face lit up in a huge smile.

Senator Obama's resume is not thin.

He was first a State Senator, then a US Senator, graduate of Harvard Law,

president of the Harvard Law Review,

an accomplished writer, and his managerial skills in this campaign have proven to be outstanding.

He's not too old like McCain, he's not too much of a carpetbagger like Clinton.

When you say that his resume is thin, without facts, you actually sound like some of the Clinton supporters who call him "an inadequate black male". If you had substance to your statement, you might have more of my respect.

Senator McCain, in his speech last night, sounded like he was praising Barry Goldwater, who voted against the civil rights act of 1964 as being too comprehensive.

McCain himself voted against MLK holiday. That makes him too old, in my book. I know age discrimination is against the law, which is why there is no upper age limit, even for a jury in NYS.

And I know that there are many older people who could do the job.

I just think he's too old in the way his mind works. He hasn't allowed his perceptions about the world to advance. His views aren't fresh or innovative. His thinking is old.

Why, ask yourself, does Obama require more experience than past presidents? Insufficient, inexperienced? Sounds like your still saying "inadequate" to me.

I read the Peggy Noonan article today in the Wall Street Journal.
I haven't seen Hill's speech, but I noticed that all the pictures are of her. She tried to steal the moment if you ask me.

One thing that people might be forgetting about is that Obama has support from a lot of people who might normally vote Republican or Independant. Hillary's implication that Obama can't win without her doesn't take into account all the people from the other two parties that voted for Obama.

Irony Out-of-state interests are competing for help from the YAF - and they're willing to pay money for their assistance. Ironically, the competition is coming from Parents for Choice in Education and All Children Matter (DeVos' PACs).

The teacher's union in Utah is trying to outlaw vouchers and there is a conservative group that is leading a ballot initiative to stop them. They are paying a lot of money, plus the roundtrip flight and a food stipend.

World Medical Relief of Detroit Here's the link to WMR of Detroit. The organization accepts drugs and medical supplies from doctors and clinics and then disperses them to seniors and certain low income people in the Metro Detroit area. They helped my mother at one time with her very, very expensive Alzheimer's medication, so maybe Dr. May could refer some of his patients to them. They mail the prescription right to the persons house for a small fee.

Unannounced visits Based on personal experience, try to schedule your visit during the week instead of the weekend. Relatives and friends tend to visit on Saturdays and Sundays and nursing homes anticipate this and work hard to present a good image.

Also, if possible, get feedback from neighbors, friends or family that may have first hand knowledge of the place.

This is completely opposite of what the Klock's would have wanted. The gave tangible property that was of intangible value for everyone in Benton Harbor to enjoy. They must be spinning in their graves at the thought that these wealthy men stand to gain from their generous and unselfish gift.

I used to write very long articles when I started blogging. Then I smartened up. I realized very quickly that even I didn't want to read long stuff. I was losing people. So I try to make my stories around 500-700 words and if I have to chop, I chop to get there!

I also try (not as hard as I should) to write a mean opening paragraph. I also always put a picture on the post. That seems to be critical. No one wants to be met with a huge block of text. Their eyes tend to glaze over.

Finally, I try to make my paragraphs no longer than 5 lines of text on the screen, even if a paragraph break doesn't seem right. Extra white space is helpful because, as you said, everybody scans.

Congratulations on the wonderful networking around the crisis in Gaza - and it worked.
Well, we know so many truckloads of needed items got into Palestine...but what I'd love to know more about and in more detail is if the Gazans in need are actually receiving the goods?
There have been some discouraging reports about UNRWA drivers being hijacked by armed robbers who steal the relief supplies and put them on sale in the suq.
Without going into who could possibly be doing such an evil deed over the bodies of suffering people, I am asking 7iber and other journalists to dig into this story.
Total up the numbers of aid trucks going in and try to get some figures on how many got to their planned destinations inside Gaza!
People who worked hard to collect, pack and send the supplies need to be assured that they are ending up in the right hands - the hands of the suffering families.

How easy it is to crusify "Jade Goody and her gang". Doesn't England have a political party that is openly racist without apology. Why not confront and educate them about tolerance. But what...they aren't tackled because they have "proper degrees". Isn't it ironic how we take the moral high ground and then openly discriminate.

"DesiGirl" what isn't "proper" about qualifying as a Beauty Therapist? It takes years of training and keeping up with changing techniques. Most image conscious women use the service of a beautician.

From a bin man to an accountant, we all do a service.

How many of our friends have "proper degrees" but can't get a job? Having a degree doesn't mean much anymore. The standards are so low that anyone with two brain cells will graduate.

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown was just being smug and just as bad as Jade. Discrimination is discrimination wether it be racial, relating to job or otherwise.

During our lifetime we all do something that we are ashamed of. However, lucky for most of us, we don't do it under the scrutiny of the public.

You said it perfectly. I can so relate. I too grew up Catholic. As an artist myself, I have also found my own spin on things but still find my soul yearning for the serenity and calm that somehow overtakes me when I sit in a beautiful old church. Your words and music inspire me. My kids always know I'm in my studio when they come home and hear your cd.
I loved your poem August, I might just have to turn it into a calligraphy piece. I hope to make it back to good old BU for homecoming to hear you again in person!

I can't help thinking that this is in response to the post I saw from the Antigone Four which apparently was meant with some animosity distancing Cassidy's project newsletter from both the four and Anigone Rising. Although they did add how to link to yours. It saddens me that there is a obvious division in the ranks. Your all so talented. And yes I think you were right to go and work on seperate projects to let the dust settle. I do hope that maybe I'm reading things wrong and that there is still friendship there? Anyway you are trully trully talented and blessed with gifts in your own right so if you need to let people know that they need to be straight then be that litagator we need more in todays world. Life is too short to not speak clearly and loudly for what you want.

Hi, I too have been a fan of PBB for a while. I became a mother in 1981 and it forever changed the way I viewed children, their treatment by caregivers, and have since moved on to get my Childcare degree and taught at preschools,
and owned a Role-Model government preschool for 6 years, then became Program Director for the YMCA in the Long Beach/Compton/Watts area. I feel what you are doing is blowing the whistle on this sub-culture of people who have been bred to live a sub-standard, uncivilized lifestyle. Crime is the singlemost problem in this country and astoundingly when I was in college, some 16 years ago, I was required to do a thesis on how Crime and Child Abuse go hand-in-hand. In 1989, a study of Folsom Prison's inmates were interviewed and over 90% of the inmates admitted to being abused as children to the POINT OF HOSPITALIZATION. That still leaves the remaining 10% some of which were also surely abused but just not hospitalized. So what is the Social commentary on Child Abuse? It has and still is increasing, because somehow the worst parents are able to procreate at a higher rate than the civilized people as a whole. With increasingly rough economic times, more crime will occur, and more children will be abused, and on and on. Not to sound like the town-cryer, but with the state of the union and the increase in meth use and it's horrendous effects on the children of the users, but also continues a social cycle of "being in the system" which is already seriously overburdened, create more NON-functional parents, straining all areas of society and ultimately the children are the victims. And then they most likely grow up to do the same.
Society MUST pay attention to this issue, like it or not, because it will be them, or their children, or their extended family members who will have a greater risk being future victims of crime of producing more of these (God forgive me) baby machines. I admit this is a long comment, but on THIS issue, the point ALWAYS bears repeating. Thank you Trench, what you are doing is getting this otherwise unnoticed information out to the public as much as you can. I would love to do what you do, because I am always paying attention everywhere I go when I notice children, I make a point to size up a questionable occurrence, and report it. Society should also be made MORE aware of the signs of child abuse and it's signs and symptoms. If you need assistance, feel free to call upon me, I am a Professional Child Care advocate. Keep up the Great work, there is a special place in Heaven for you, probably adjacent to the special place for all of those abused children you have tribuned for. to the gentleman who said that "an eye for an eye" is not a very christian response to these attacker's, where does he think that phrase came from?! it came from the Bible, that's where! there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting the punishment fit the crime, so i will say again that i hope karma pays a visit to these attackers in the same way that they doled it out. now, it's been a good week or so that these attackers have been sitting in jail, getting a good taste of what's in store for them, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they are all wishing they could turn back time... if they have an ounce of brains at all in their violent little skulls, they'll be writing apology letters to Victoria, begging forgiveness, explaining how the plan to beat Victoria was just hatched the hour before it took place (if that is indeed how it went down-- i think the lesser amount of time that was involved in the planning will maybe be a factor, now if they had planned this thing all week then that's a different story...), and they need to show some remorse for God's sake, not sit there trying to be all billy-bad-ass with no emotions or expressions of sympathy or realization of how wrong their actions were... they need to admit that they must have been temporarily out of their minds, then maybe MAYBE they will have a chance at a lighter sentence... not that i'm advocating for a lighter sentence, but i would like to see these attackers admit their wrongdoing and show some concern for the victim and apologize... same goes for that idiot mother who tried to say her daughter's actions were justified because of trash talk that Victoria did... that woman needs to also apologize... and then the Lindsay family needs to sue the livin' shit out of all of them :)

How would it be any different if it were a male teacher? If we assume you are correct and the child can have a consensual heterosexual relationship, why couldn't he have a consensual homosexual one?

It's amazing how many wrong things Daley does and gets away with, at least so far.

Too bad the Daley folks are controlling the Olympic bid instead of it being truly independent. If we lose, that will be the reason.

Best Congresscritter-Â Dick Durbin.Â He is legit in his passion for doing what's right for all the people of Illinois.

Best statewide-Â Jesse White.Â He seems to ride above all the infighting and does a decent job running SOS.

Best Agency Director-Â James Sledge.Â There is a reason he has moved from Human Rights Commission to IDES to CMS all in the span of a few years.Â He is a great administrator and a very fair person.Â If anyone can handle the task of controlling and maybe even improvingÂ the big elephant it is him.

I am so sorry that John has had to go through all of this. And you poor thing, it is so tiring taking care of someone that is sick and being at the hospital all the time. I pray that you will get some rest and that John will start having days where he feels like a kid again (well, close to that anyway)

I too feel that I have lost touch with so many, I just haven't had the time to leave comments everywhere or read tons of journals like I used to. Too much has been going on this past year and presently for me to be around much.

Oh, the fun with twins and the insurance company. "What?? You mean there are two with the same date of birth? We're getting duplicate claims from the doctor..."
Duh, they are twins. Oh, I could go on but you know what I mean.
Love the pictures you are putting up. And, I totally understand not wanting your pregnancy to end so soon. I was hoping for two more weeks but the discordance was too great so doc said, "Let's get them out now." So, less than 8 hours later, I was in surgery for a c-section. At least he let me go home and shower, pack and come back with hubby. I had been feeling better than I had ever felt and I just wasn't ready to let my twin belly go. I'm sympathetic for you.

I missed my twin belly too. There's something so memorable about having two in there, knowing the probability of it happening again like that are slim. It was so special. I keep praying for you. Wow, I had not checked on you in a couple days and then I get on to see you have delivered your precious daughters. Congratulations to you, your husband and those little men who now have two baby sisters. I'm very happy for you that everything worked out safely in light of the accident and that you are doing well. We don't know each other, I can't remember how I found your blog. I check in to see how you are doing every once in a while, because I have twins too. I'll be praying for your pregnancy to continue at least 5 more weeks. I'll pray for your doctors to have wisdom about how to treat you and for you to have discernment about what to do. Like Kirsten, mine is more a personal blog and I don't expect to get famous over it or make any money.

I frequent two social networking blogs, BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog. I also submit some of my better stories to Associated Content, where it's possible for me to make money. Don't laugh. I've made a dollar so far. Ok, you can laugh.

I subscribe to about 30 blogs, about half of which I comment on regularly. I also am a member of Humor-Blogs, where I get pretty good responses.

I have had little success with Reddit and Digg, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Not a big deal.

For now, I'm just having fun and meeting some really great people like the Bloke!

Yeah, Bloke. You need to listen more to people like Dennis and me. I'll tell you this.... Almost every tip I've ever employed to make my blog a little simpler for my readers to navigate has come from you. I've found other blogs on blogging that try to explain techniques, but I can never understand them. Then I come over here, search for the tip I need, find it and understand it immediately. That kind of instruction is priceless for us newbies. Do NOT stop doing what you're doing, and how you're doing it. Everyone else can just take a flying leap.

Bloke -- It's really not an option for you to pack it in because we all need you. See, I call myself a computing support person, but this blogging gig is completely different than anything I've done before, and I admit I need the help. Yours is the only place I can get that, in terms I can understand and USE. You have this incredible talent for explaining things without all the jargon, and you don't assume people are coming in with any base knowledge. That sort of thing is priceless. In fact, none of my computing colleagues know anything about blogging, and with your tips in my back pocket, I'm becoming somewhat of an expert for others who are thinking of doing it. So the information you share with me gets passed on to countless others. You would have no way of knowing that, but know it now.

Don't go anywhere. You're critical to my success. Especially because I'm real close to switching to my own domain and host. I'm going to need you.

Bloke -- You are my savior!!! I just moved to my new domain: junkdrawerblog.com and everything WORKS!!! Even when I enter it without the "www" prefix. I did have one problem that I resolved today. Apparently my domain was "parked" and I had to un-park it. After that, I went over to Blogger and did the redirect and now it works! You have NO idea how happy I am (well, maybe you do know). I've been so worried about making this change and must've looked at your tutorial a thousand times. Except for the parking thing, everything worked perfectly. YOU ARE THE MAN!! When we say grace at the Thanksgiving table tomorrow, it'll confuse people, but I shall give a hearty thanks to The Bloke.

I had my first hiccup with WordPress today, but managed to resolve it myself. I believe I messed up my themes by using Windows Live Writer to publish a post. I have much learning ahead of me, but I also have help, so not too worried.

I find BlueHost to be easy to use, but admit I could have have configured it properly without having my hand held.

So far, so good. The more I use something other than Blogger, the better I feel about leaving it. No more cloud hanging over my head.

I, too, had some formatting issues with WordPress. I did my import today and some posts were a mixture of Times New Roman and Arial. I changed them all the Georgia, 12pt, via Windows Live Writer. I thought it would take hours to fix 112 posts, but it took just one hour.

Another reason I need to move to WordPress, I think. I would love the ability to schedule posts.

I've just recently stopped posting on weekends, trying to time my posts to coincide with my heaviest traffic, which is smack dab in the middle of the work week.

Hilarious post and love your comment policy. Childless-by-choice here. 15 years with my husband without considering it once. I'm only ever pregnant in my nightmares. Had one the other night. Was about to go into labor, and then my waking self smacked the unconscious self out of it and I woke up. Whew!

I agree with 40Lizard...those of you who are gagging must not live in the south!! Chicken Fried Steak is a staple south of the Mason-Dixon line! It is a round steak that is battered and fried and usually served with white gravy and mashed potatoes or other vegatables. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
