Nah, this thing is junk. It's just parallax and not 3D. You can do exactly the same if you bought 2 cameras and sticky taped them side by side - and you would get a lot higher quality and it would be cheaper.

Nope, sorry, I actually bought a few last year, and the nubs on the bottom of the tray are about twice the size as the ones on top, so stacking doesn't work.

The Coast Guard has a formal process for naming CG cutters. There is actually a naming board established. It's my belief that the names of all 8 planned NSCs have already been determined by the board and approved by the Commandant. The only question now is in what order each of the remainning NSCs will be named.

Your observation of how your students perceive the relationship between business and IT is very interesting. A lot of the work I have been doing over the past year has looked into examining why that shift is occurring. This is the first generation that has grown up with technology engrained into their daily lives, for example every child to now has access to the internet (US public school penetration rates are now 100%). For this generation technology and new media are a necessity for communication and interaction, and it seems fitting that as they begin to enter the workforce that mentality will carry forward.

Yoav, also brings up another interesting point, how will collaborative technologies play into the equation? It sounds like arming tomorrowÂ’s leaders with the skills and understanding of how to properly leverage IT within business environments is a step in the right direction. My co-workers (Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams) have just released the book Wikinomics: How mass collaboration changes everything, which discusses in chapter 7 the concept of the Â“wiki workplaceÂ”. We are in an exciting time that I think will bring about some real organization change and I look forward to hearing how your course and students views continue to evolve.

More seriously, your discussion of educational styles reminds me of the levels of mastery I learned recently from a text: follow, detach, transcend. A beginner follows rules by rote until he can easily repeat them, then detaches himself from strict adherence to those rules, at the same time learning the reasoning behind the rules. Finally, the student transcends, or becomes a practitioner, writing his own rules. In U.S. academics, the first level corresponds to pre-collegiate schooling, the second to undergraduate schooling, and the third to work on the graduate level and beyond.

While in the U.S., we are sometimes too eager to skip the first level (hence our trouble with grammar and handwriting), it sounds like Ecuadorian culture is highly focused on the first level of learning.

I don't think you have to worry about lambdas dissapearing anytime soon. From everything I've read, Python 3000 is no longer considered a potential reality, but more of a thought excersize. The best ideas from which will be borrowed to extend the existing Python language.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing lambdas go. Sooo unreadable.

It has been interesting watching mainstream media cover this story and continually get it wrong.

At the time that congress made its first purchase, my company, www.standardcarbon.com, was an aggregator on the Chicago Climate Exchange and we were going to register offsets just to fulfill this order. The Congressional GAO asked the CCX to hold a blind auction for the lowest bidders to supply offsets so that no congressmen could get credit for projects in their district.

The results of the auction were to use mostly soil sequestration credits created by the Iowa Farm Bureau, as well as forest and soil created by NCOC in Montana. These credits have become fairly politicized since then, and the science wrongly called into question by people who don't understand how you can get all that air to stick underground...

The point is being missed is that a reduction in greenhouse gas occurred because each farmer selling credits has signed up for a long term period to insure that the sequestration is not reversed. As far as when the offsets occurred, you have to figure that a farmer or forester is not going to go buy a $20,000 drill seeder or plant 10,000 acres of forest just because Nancy Pelosi put out an RFP. They have to use previous vintages and allow farmers to use equipment that they already own and use. The CCX validation standard that was used is designed to accommodate these implementation steps (purchase equipment, farm, sequester, verify, sell carbon credits).

At the price that the House GAO paid, the farmers are only getting about $2 per acre per year to sequester carbon in the soil, and about $5 for their forests. I don't think that paying $50/ton would help reduce any more CO2.

Hello, I noticed you missed something very important with regard to desktop computers. There is now a standard on power supplies for computers, called 80plus (www.80plus.org). They give power supplies that convert AC power (from the wall) to DC power (used internally in the computer) at 80% or greater efficiency at different load levels. In checking the specifications of my traditional power supplies (if they even calculated their efficiency) were around 60-70% efficient at converting this power. That is an extra 10-20 percent energy used and lost as waste heat! Now multiply that by every time you use your computer! It really adds up, not just is it better environmentally, but changing to an 80plus certified power supply will help reduce power consumption so significantly that the energy used in production and transportation of the new power supply to you will be insignificant in comparison. If you catch a good deal, this upgrade could cost as little as 25-30 bucks. Recycle the old power supply somewhere that recycles old electronics, and this is one of the greenest things you can do with regard to lowering your consumption of energy.

So how did this turn into a slam on south park - that was totally out of left field. The fact of the matter is, these "kids" were 19 and 16 - not quite the fragile little minds you portray. You make good points, but goofy little pics like that are not unnecessarily a sign of a mental inbalance - it's just more fear mongers looking to stir the pot - like trench says, shenanigans. The people in question were obviously unbalanced, but i doubt the keep it brutal pic was what drove them to do what they did. They were either fucked in the head from the get go, or something in their upbringing made them feel that this was the right thing to do. Blaming the evil TV or the evil computer is just lazy scapegoating.

It is amazing how compartmentalized some people view the internet. I have been intrigued by how proactively one should be promoting thier online brand. I am of the believe that if their is nothing to hide from you should just include all of your screen names on your resume so that you are controlling what people see. So like the friend with the unique name there is no confusion. In any sort of branding you want to control the content that people see!

I've watched both the videos, and it looked to me like the medic shook off the trooper when he grabbed the medic's wrist.

Which, just so we're clear, is resisting arrest.

What's going to get the Trooper in trouble is the "un-arresting" of Mr. White. Once a police officer tells you you're under arrest, that's it. You ARE going. Only a court can release you after that.

"I'll finish arresting you later" or "You're lucky I'm letting you go" can't happen. It's illegal. Without anything else that happened here, and whether White ever files/filed a complaint or not, the Trooper put his job in jeopardy with that one act.

I gotta disagree with that one. I lurves me a good field IV. Saves me a whole step. I may change out the tubing if the pt gets admitted, but I always utilize the medic's IV.

Unfortunately MG, you're a rarity in ED nurses. Depending where I transport to, I will purposely NOT start an IV because I know that it will result in two sticks for the patient (mine and the ER's blood draw) as opposed to one (the ER's IV/blood draw).

The excuse is almost always "I can't use that, it's had saline through it."

So remove the tubing, attach the tube sleeve, and draw off a red top, THEN DISCARD IT. Congratulations, you just removed all the saline from my extension set (which is actually the one you use, because I carry your stuff), and can now draw anything you want.

When finished, simply re-attach the IV tubing (also your brand, cause I pay attention), set the flow, and go do whatever it is you do.

I'm glad you do that, I promise you it makes your EMS crews feel good. I just don't understand what's so hard about it.
