Nah, this thing is junk. It's just parallax and not 3D. You can do exactly the same if you bought 2 cameras and sticky taped them side by side - and you would get a lot higher quality and it would be cheaper.

More seriously, your discussion of educational styles reminds me of the levels of mastery I learned recently from a text: follow, detach, transcend. A beginner follows rules by rote until he can easily repeat them, then detaches himself from strict adherence to those rules, at the same time learning the reasoning behind the rules. Finally, the student transcends, or becomes a practitioner, writing his own rules. In U.S. academics, the first level corresponds to pre-collegiate schooling, the second to undergraduate schooling, and the third to work on the graduate level and beyond.



While in the U.S., we are sometimes too eager to skip the first level (hence our trouble with grammar and handwriting), it sounds like Ecuadorian culture is highly focused on the first level of learning.

Magisterial, Pete. You've communicated so much of what could be communicated, and alluded to what could not. Your process of describing the landscape reminded me of the challenge I was faced with when writing about the Great Barrier Reef. In any case, you did a great job. Did you find the process of writing recalled many of the details you previously thought you had forgotten?

Overall, I think the design is sleek, although I couldn't help but wonder off in various directions while reading article contents. At times there just seems to be too much on the page, so you might consider taking out all the extra "flashy" stuff. But then again, it might be just me :)

Your observation of how your students perceive the relationship between business and IT is very interesting. A lot of the work I have been doing over the past year has looked into examining why that shift is occurring. This is the first generation that has grown up with technology engrained into their daily lives, for example every child to now has access to the internet (US public school penetration rates are now 100%). For this generation technology and new media are a necessity for communication and interaction, and it seems fitting that as they begin to enter the workforce that mentality will carry forward.

Yoav, also brings up another interesting point, how will collaborative technologies play into the equation? It sounds like arming tomorrow’s leaders with the skills and understanding of how to properly leverage IT within business environments is a step in the right direction. My co-workers (Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams) have just released the book Wikinomics: How mass collaboration changes everything, which discusses in chapter 7 the concept of the “wiki workplace”. We are in an exciting time that I think will bring about some real organization change and I look forward to hearing how your course and students views continue to evolve.
