Three quarters completed is nothing to sneeze at!

I did have to grin pretty widely while reading this. The reason I dubbed you my "evil" twin is that despite the fact of our sometimes eerie similarities, there are some things in which you are the COMPLETE inverse of myself. Evidently the writing/speaking thing is one of these. I can write forever and actually prefer it as a form of communication, but am a definite verbal blunderer with the spoken word. Loved your comment about conversation and barista at Starbucks! And when it comes to drafting and editing? I'm all for the editing and find the drafting more difficult. :)

Congrats on the "excellent" writing you're doing. (Doesn't surprise me at all.) THAT house is one that had just been rebuilt after being flattened by the May 4, 2003 series of tornados went through. This round followed the same path, and the poor guy who owned that house said he won't be rebuilding in that area again. We watched an interview with him while waiting for that same storm to get to us last night. Ah, the wonders of modern technology. :)

Thank you VERY much for the prayers, Randy. If you want to keep them going lightly throughout the spring, we won't be unappreciative. Tornado weather is just starting here in the Ozarks and such storms will likely not be uncommon for the next two months or so. You get hurricanes. We get tornados. As bad as last night was, I think I'll still take the tornados. :)

Re: Quotidian Light: Tornados

Kurt--We heard on the news last night that Bentonville (or parts of it) was getting softball sized hail. One of the coolest.
Easter morning I woke up hearing hymns through the bedroom window from Mt. Zion church just up the hill and across the highway. I got up and dressed and out for a walk before Scott and the girls woke up, and as I walked east, straight into the rising sun, I could hear every word of "Victory in Jesus" come floating across the half mile of greening field and budding trees between Mt. Zion and my ears.
Now, just so you know, not only was this special because it was Easter Sunday, but also because Mt. Zion is the church my grandparents began attending when they were first married and where my grandmother continues attending now. I know most of the people in the choir and could even pick out the choir director's voice (he's also a neighbor). AND..."Victory in Jesus" is the song our family sang standing at the grave of my grandfather six years ago...up at Mt. Zion.
Easter is not the Christian holiday that hits home with me the most, but this Easter was a gift. :)

Re: Let’s All Gather ‘Round - Friday Night Open Thread

Ok. Sometimes we are so alike, and sometimes we are SOOOOO very different; it makes me laugh. I pull my dryer out from the wall to clean under it occasionally, usually in the fall or spring when the mice start coming in and the utility room begins to take on a certain "air" if it isn't done and poison or traps set. :p

I can't say that dead animals phase me much, though, and certainly not dried up husks of animals. Our cats leave us gifts on the porch daily. Half-eaten gifts. They leave us the "green wobbly bits" as the girls call them, and we have to sweep those and the bloody fur off the step almost every morning. (One Easter we opened the door to find a full-grown rabbit waiting for us, which amused us all greatly and gave the girls opportunity to tell their classmates that our cats killed the Easter bunny.) Dried critter husks are much tidier to clean up than oozy ones. :)

You didn't want to know any of this, did you?

What a great dryer salesman! Teaching this year has given me a whole new perspective on "whiteness" as expressed in the rural midwest--or at least in the rural southwest of Missouri. It isn't uncommon for me to want very badly to use a phrase in class that one of my husbands colleagues supposedly uses: "Do you want to DIE this ignorant?!?" (Not as a threat, of course, but simply uttered in disbelief.) I'll admit, it gives me a sense of satisfaction that eventually all the races are going to be more mixed. Maybe it will help take us a few steps closer to seeing people as PEOPLE before we mentally poke them into little boxes of preconception and begin complaining about them.

Grrrr...

Re: Love Won Out Ad Rejected - Deemed “Offensive”

A major difficulty in making calls like this is, of course, that there really isn't anything under the sun that doesn't offend someone.
Human beings are persnickity creatures.

Re: TakeOff - New Art

It makes me think of sky and water being playful.
Blessings on his head, for sure, and blessings on your now carcass-free home!
Cindy
P.S. Dot is my mother's name.
